oh my – putty tats!
hey newton – how’s the bay area tonight? what’s the forecast for next weekend?
Any Possum Stew hackworth??
hey nahant – got any pie plans?
Hot and hot. How about up theres?
Probably more of the same warm/hot days cool nights!! At least that is the what it has been for days on end.
It must be summer if you are diving.
every afternoon around 1 or 2ish, fog starts to roll in. and then it burns off around 6pmish. makes for an enjoyable changing day with temps (so far) not exceeding 70
hey ce – how’s ohio?
Seems to me you’ve been asking for both Peach & Apple pies so I guess I will be making both. I also checked on the fruit at the store and both are available..
C’mon !! Why can’t the cat win one once in a while ?
I was done below typing, and everyone came up here. Sheesh.
Here’s the words to one of our songs:
Draw the circle wide.
Draw it wider still.
Let this be our song,
no one stands alone
standing side by side Draw the circle wide….
Let our dreams we dream be larger,
than we’ve ever dreamed before;
Let the dream of peace surround us
Lasting ev-er more.

I know, I’m a dreamer. *g*
So great — we headed south to Medina to spend hours in the antique mall. What a great place! Honda Civic Si with windows down and sunroof open flew down roads with a blast of mother nature. It was glorious. We visited a store called Lehmans, the non-electric store. Beautiful Amish country, and clouds divine.
yummy yummy nahant – totally worth driving 700 miles each way just to grab a few slices.
token is staying home – he is gonna be petsat by stephanie. portland is forecast to hit 101 or so next weekend – she will appreciate the cooler temps here.
hey bbugs – how ya been?
ce – visiting amish country is on my list of places to visit. *sigh*
Alive and well , thanks !
I tot I taw a puddy tat.
hey demi – sorry, didn’t see ya slide in
sorry to hear ya won’t be able to make the meetup
How’s by you ?
i deed i deed see a putty tat – hey sunny
To nice not to share. Catherine MacClellan “Water in the Ground”
Oh Lehmans! I think I was there once. Want to go again.
getting ready to head down to the bay area for next sat’s meetup. weather here has been perfect (well, for me).
hey maggiesboy – ooooh ear candy
hey margot
Yeah. Sounds like a blast. Just too busy.
Don’t know if you saw me say this the other night.
My mom asked me about ya. Asked if I still talked to my friend in the Redwoods.
Told her you moved and I don’t get here many evenings anymore. But, still friends.
Yeah sounds like a good time coming up. how many pups at the meet up?
It is beautiful. I must admit (confessing we are east coast born and bred, sigh, Philly) that I love it here. The fields were mowed and the hay was filled with formed “stucks” (I need to find the real spelling of the haystacks). Damn beautiful.
hey demi – tell your mom hi and let your son know that there is no gus up here – at least not one that i’ve found
Expanded, nice but really crowded. We usually don’t visit in summer, so I was surprised at the crowds. I should just stay home in summer!
we usually get around 10 or so. nahant has the count – but has not let me know what to bring.
(:(( Tucker will be missing him…
Hi all. I’ve been reading the reports from Jane and nyceve from the healthcare front. Wow. Crazy stuff, e.g., this Dkos diary from nyceve.
Have fun ! We gotta do something like that on the East Coast!
Sounds wonderful!
bbugs – i know ecahn has hosted before – upper new york state. where on the east coast are ya?
No Gus…:(
I will tell them.
Brindle says Hi to Token. He’s settled down a bit. Not so much the crazy puppy anymore. Still a really Loud Woofer though.
hey wigwam – ain’t it tho *shaking head* hard to believe that our democratic process has come to this
..another one I’m liking lately Eilen Jewell “Sea of Tears”
I was viewing twolf’s Teabagger speech on global warming. Very insightful.
Central Massachusets just north of Connecticut
token is snoozing on the sofa – and bailey cat is in on my bed doing the same. i’ll pass on your howdy’s when they wake up looking for a midnight snack.
Should be around 8-10 including Us two! We are looking forward to those Pups that can make it(:>))
The one that killed me today was Obama’s total flip on attack ads against the Blue Dogs.
we have several pups in that area iirc – you outta put out some feelers on the daytime threads in addition to the nighttime ones.
tis the meetup season – they are a lot of fun
Brindle? I had a cat by that name! Cute little dilute calico.
do ya think he hears our roar?
How ya doing BB? We will be back there in the Boston area on the 20th of August for two weddings.. Not sure we will time as family wants our time but it sure would be nice to meetup with the pups in Mass.
hey fern – how’s your part of canada tonight?
Al Gore is wrong the microclimate of the ice cores only show when it was freezing we don’t and can’t live there think of the temp difference between Seattle north of Chicago and Chicago 105 to – 10 no wind chill
Now think if that difference moves higher plant life mostly will die sure oaks and pines can live crops no.
The temp difference away from the freezing range is what we should worry about and that I think should be greater.
Al Gore is an optimist I never thought I would say that.
Sounds like a plan.
Would like to get a group together if we ever get a health care bill passed with a public option!
Did Mama Mia tonight, and now Saving Private Ryan… best movies anyone?
hey things – how’s seattle tonight?
Like this? (photo, not spelling;)
Predicting patterns with the available data even if I’m wrong hurts but not as bad as trying to think like GOPers by putting myself in their place.
Sweet! Here’s a handful of Maritimers covering Sir Paul & MJ.
Hiya Pups! Suze, Margot, Christine et al… how’s tricks this fine Saturday night? (It is Saturday, right…eeeeearly Sunday morning)
I’m game , if ya find the time let me know , Boston’s only 30 min away on the Mass Pike
Not to many bugs like last night but there should be no bugs in the city.
btw – excellent diary wigwam
Yes, but with stacks having points (boy, does this sound lame).
Pleasantly warm after a couple of cold, wet days. I love these summer days when it is just warm enough during the day to make you enjoy the cool evenings.
Just 5 songs for Los Lobos? That’s not right.
hey jo – where ya at tonight?
Hey Jo,
What a beautiful day here!
Thanks for that link. Good work is going on the internet tubes.
hey emerson – it started at 9pm
Time to re-charge the batteries
Good night all !!
I can let ya know on Facebook when we are back there! I Will be bringing the laptop so we both can stay up to date on things!!
Prove me wrong wise minds at the Lake even tornadoes do not get me this scared.
De nile is a river that runs through the Republican party. A delusional reality oy what they would prefer it to be. Reminds me of Tennessee Wiliams and Faulkner characters. Remember Streetcar named Desire wher Brando’s screen wife has the southern spaced our sister visit. He gets into her sister’s head and all the dedenial of reality. STELLA!
Then the characters in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof with Big Daddy (Burl Ives) and syck son Paul RIP Newman.(not to mention his wife played by Liz Taylor etc)
Legally Blonde, My Cousin Vinnie
g’nite bbugs
I enjoyed Benjamin Button
Oh. Yer all up here! Teh Wolves now doing Neil Young’s ‘Cinnamon Girl’ for an encore.

How’d I miss the new thread? Sigh . . .
“You see us together chasing the moonlight,
My Cinnamon Girl.”
*G*
hey bb – how’s it going?
So, I have this theory that I can’t quite bring myself to believe. The theory is that Obama, and with him Axelrod and Emanuel, wants his name on a healthcare bill and isn’t so all that particular about the details. Initially, he thought that the progressives were “pussies” who’d fold if he put up resistance. But then he saw Jane and nyceve in action, changed his mind, and turned on the Blue Dogs as being the softer target.
Okay, call it a fantasy, a theory, or whatever. But it is consistent with the observed behavior.
hey larue – was wondering why you were hanging out downstairs *g*
hi Jo, Suz, Things, Fern and everyone
Dam, I missed most of it then. Oh well.
We have to create a climate of opinion that penetrates the beltway.

Hi Ms.S
I am well and challenging myself with an uphill jog walk interval training of about 6 miles. Got to run down the mountain on a soft sand horses trail. That was really fun. Now recovering patiently. Will have to get up for late snack.
The health care plan in the house allows Ca and about 8 other states to have single payer without the penalty in the Public Option Wigwam was discussing earlier ala Paul Krugman. We are getting some transparency which is refreshing, Still have to select sources carefully which most MSM watchers do not do. The politics is however disgruntling to put it mildly.
In reply to SunnyNobility at #96
Me too. For reasons I can’t explain, I like the guy and hold out hope for him. Silly me.
Meanwhile, I must bust his shit and express my disapproval.
You have a , where you should have a . in that url.
Sorry, we are watching the end of Saving Private Ryan. It sort of colors my thoughts.
good news bb – just be careful running down that hill – dont want you to end up with two casts :)

Barry Lyndon
Bye the way…the carton is excellent super creative story line, excellent animation. Thank you and Good Night pups.
thank you bb – glad you liked it. g’nite
And I skipped Private Ryan cause Chris put it out. But in six months, Fargo and Barry Lyndon will probably appear on my list.
Son of Flubber!
Bananas
Green Card
Stand and Deliver
Local Hero!
OK, this is weird. Are we the only 2 people on the planet who think Barry Lyndon is Kubrick’s best work?
I respect his brain power. Consequently, his assessment of what can be achieved scares me.
mary poppins
roger rabbit
sleeper
stand by me
Yes.
*clink*
I LOVE stand by me
Per HuffPo:
Let’s make it so!
Make that three. The lighting and costumes in that movie were spectacular. Although Paths of Glory may be it’s equal in another genre.
My apologies to Anne Heaton and Laura Cortese. The ladies were honourary Maritimers for the occasion.
i just hope taming does not mean shutting up
True. Besides Peter Sellers, Adolphe Menjou may be the penultimate Kubrickesque actor. That’s a great pick.
I loved Barry Lyndon. Now, I’m claiming ONCE is great too.
Sleeper is my favorite Woody Allen flick.
La Cage aux Folles
i so wanted to try out that orgasmitron
Yep. *G*
And I’d go it agin . . . *G*
Butch Cassidy and the SunDance Kid.
The Sting
The Graduate
Pink Panther…Inspector Clueso
The War of Roses
Star Wars
African Queen
Northwest Passage
Bridges on the river Kwuai

DC…two days, then home
Clockwork Orange was the best
kewl jo – i’ve still got my fingers and toes crossed for ya
Love to catch up with any DC area pups sometime before I get fuoughed
Cawfee’n’donutz perhaps
With people like Jane and nyceve as our field commanders, there’s no taming going to happen on our side, and it appears that Obama and crew may have turned their taming impulses toward the Blue Dogs. Yes, Barack, take them to obedience school.
Thanks Suz, and whoa mothua hossola!
BB at #142, ou just named mo faves, only ya left out Sand Pebbles with McQueen.
Damn hoss, yer killin me, in all teh right ways!!
Nice picks, Big Bro!!! *G* *waves*
2001 a space odyssey
El Norte
The Borrowers
Indian in the Cupboard
anything with Gerard Depardieu…he is tres chaud, mmm hmm
An excellent answer, but what was the question. ;-)
get ahold of jane – and ask around in the daytime comments too
Watched 2001 on cable the other day… still a great flick…as is dr strangelove (No fighting in the war room)
movies – what’s on your desert island list i guess
ahhh Suze… u so kewl!
I’m not against it. CWO is unlike anything else, and dozens of movies have tried to emulate its vision. Hell, without it, David Fincher would probably still be directing Madonna videos.
Think what happens if a crop killing frost moves from the end of November in Illinois to the end of October. Sure the average temp might be higher but the range of temp is what I’m saying will change quicker than even Al gore thinks.
A micro clime next to a glacier that will freeze again is as different as Seattle from Chicago and Al has no numbers for those variables or where they will happen.
The climate next to a glacier is different than other climates that is the difference we should be trying to look for.
And Rose Polenzani. (Note to self – Don’t assume just because they’re in Halifax to see Paul McCartney that they live there.)
In response to Suzanne at #156:
Top movies? Has anyone mentioned Blade Runner and Soylent Green?
ya ever have one of those days?
Anything with Gerard Depardieu! Oh Margot, Jean De Florette.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qo2Lo28FNpg
Blade Runner… ZOMG what a great movie
Sand Pebbles
And Papillon was tough to beat.
the godfather
Obedience school-Wigwam!!!
Yes. Simple answers. For all the right reasons. ;-)
I’ve only seen Cyrano and Green Card, but I would happily watch any others.
Well, as much as I’m not a huge John Wayne fan, I’ll have to toss The Quiet Man out there… and it does have Maureen O’Hara too
Badda boom, badda bing.
Why you so hip? *G*
ohmystars yes, the quiet man
and brigadoon
Movie picks I am a sucker for the underdog and the social issues. The master of capitalism and their enforcers get it in the end.
For me it’s hard to watch. The whole film feels like you can see the ending, and it turns out you can. Dark, but superbly crafted. And who would have seen Ryan O’Neal in a Kubrick film…
Love The Quiet Man!! Not a big Wayne fan either. Irish landscape is beautiful and the fight is classic.
Question–Is it worth taping Minority Report? Heard of it but never saw it. It’s on now.
One of the greatest, ever, Sand Pebbles.
And I gotta say, EVERY one left out one of MY favs of all time, and I was but a lad of 8 or so:
Exodus. A life changing movie, and one that still moves me to this day.
Relevant to this day, and sadly under covered.
But it showed the truth of Israeli Occupation.
Brutal movie, like Sand Pebbles.
Real.
That’s why I love all Frank Capra movies. Hit me where I live.
Damn, ya got me again . . . another greatest ever.
Really, a greatest ever. Thanks for the slap up the head . . .
Hoffman and McQueen were incredible.
Not a terrible film IMHO, but Kubrick’s cinematic influences are completely absent, despite the homage.
and it has the virtue of being the first “major studio” picture ever filmed in Ireland, using Irish actors… and the fight scene is a total classic.
Other Fish Pix… Love me some Mel Brooks… The “original” producers (Gene Wilder and Zero Mostel, Genius); Young Frankenstein (Igor, please get the bags…okay, you take the blonde and I’ll take the one in the toiban) and of course Blazing Saddles (pardon me while I whip this out…)
thanks newton, I’ll give it a try for a while.
AFI’s top 100 movies of all time
Right with you on Mel Brooks, Jo Fish. And most Marx Bros, too.
A french hit man rescues a little girl. He is somewhat ugly but a beautifuk person he rescues and parents a little girl who’s parents were murdered by a speed freak Paressienne detective for drugs. In the end he blows up the building and himself in revenge to kill the evil detective.
Name the movie and the actor!
#79 “The Deer Hunter”, I still can’t watch that again. I’ve seen it twice in my life and cried like an effin’ baby. It rips me up, literally.
The Professional. Jean Renault.
The way ya describe it reminds of how I felt about ‘Unforgettable Lightness Of Being’.
I could NOT stop watching it, but I knew what would happen . . . and I never liked it.
And I liked Butch Cassidy And Sundance . . . And Thelma N Louise . . .
Some flicks that end how I think they will just don’t thrill me no mo.
And I’ll admit, hoss, it’s been decades since I’ve seen a movie . . . so I’m no longer really conversant in any manner.
whoops
Reno
Pass the popcorn please.
Young Frankenstein..Franknstien or Frankenstein with umlaut.
Wierd castle and bad animal experiments fortunelately campy spooffy.
God it was so great pathos. Thanks for the name.
Who was the fabulous leading lady? In Frankenstein with Mel. She played off so well ans was a groove.
Evening, pups
hey ppd – how goes
Carol Kane, I think also in Taxi on TV?
Terri Garr…
or was it madeline kahn?
Yes, that was awesome.
A precursor to Bourne Identity, methinks . . . .
Brutal, and great. Good call Newton!!!!
Hell of a flick . . .
I’ll only toss out THIS ONE.
It rivaled any movie I grew up seeing . . . . it was incredible, long before Private Ryan.
Terri Garr (the blonde), Madeline Kahn (the Toiban) and Cloris Leachmann (Frau Blucher)
actually, Cloris Leachman? (Now they all sound right…or wrong.)
LOL
Madeline Kahn was all about Frankenstein’s Bride . . .
Her part in Blazing Saddles was also insane . . . *G*
Hard to define a ‘lead’ in that one.
hahahahah we were all right
Perhaps it’s just me, but I’ve always thought that Terri Garr was one of the sexiest actresses ever.
Not just you.
except Carol Kane. Knowing how my brain works, CK’s hair reminded me of “Bride of Frankenstein” so I cast her in Mel’s movie. Very scary.
Agreed… roll roll roll in ze hay… *G*
dayam.. i forgot raising arizona
Agree. She was pretty hot and had good comedic timing. I think she had a stroke a few years ago?
Poor girl has relapsing-remitting MS
Well, thanks – how’s everything in Suzanneland?
g’night pups… got to get some sleep and the macbook is overheating my lap…LOL
Sleep well my fellow insomniacs!!!
Handing you your Oscar for best supporting actress… G) Madeline tears me up and Terri is terribly ridiculously funny. Madeline has something so Frankenstienish in a delicious sort of way.
she was great in tootsie. i’ve always had a soft spot for her and holly hunter
nite jo
i’m bailing out too
g’nite jo
i’m doing well -getting ready for the road trip down to nahants
g’nite newton
Insane but the director made it work…
Ok putting on jammies..lights out…could you read me something or a bedtime story? Forged about it.
sleep well bb
Is it far to Fear, Loathing & Firedogs in RW City for you?
700 miles each way – i’m about even with portland but am on the coast
Not many of these I don’t like, but Cuckoo’s Nest, Dances with Wolves and Close Encounters were all special.
yeah… reading further down the wiki lists the films removed when revisions were made… what changes have been made to the list over time
Per RandySF at dailykos.com:
so sad. But she’s back on the talk show circuit, I think.
One of the world’s greatest scenic routes, though
So you’re attending nahant’s pie fest?
i’m thinking of taking 5 down…i have a stick shift and all the shifting that 101 requires takes a lot outta my fake left knee
yeah, that’s what I was hearing, too. No accepting defeat on this. I don’t care if the ins.co’s are spending $1.4-million PER DAY, we’re winning this one!
yikes – tonight sure has sped by. thanks to all for a fun filled evening and thanks to ce for starting the movie discussion.
g’nite all. i’ll be back tomorrow nite, same bat time, same bat channel for sunday’s late late night. see ya then.
If you take I-5, set your cruise control. Governator Arnold has CHP trying to close our $26 billion budget deficit with a million percent increase in speeding tickets.
Jane and nyceve are awesome. I hope that my hypothesis/fantasay that the White House has determined that the Blue Dogs are an easier target for compromise is correct.
Night Suzanne
no cruise control but my little put put gets a shimmy around 65 so i should be good
good info to know.. thanks
*poof*
Me too. Maybe he’s seeing a little of the light at last. Blue dogs should always be a target, judging by their voting records-especially in the House where the Dems have a good advantage.
If Obama has any loyalty at all to the agenda he pitched in the primaries, and even in the general, he has to see us as his allies and the Blue Dogs as his enemy. But, by now, I’ve lost faith in his loyalty to his poffered agenda.
He and the Dems are going to have to come around. Progressives are not happy and they risk losing a lot of seats next year. Better start listening to us.
Hey Suzanne, emerson, nahant, Jo Fish, newt, bigbro, and anyone I’ve missed, i.e. everyone else. G’nite!
nite wigwam. Later.
