zed!! Hi ES
Poodle!
Hey ES
Hundreds and Thousands influences are pretty clear – Costello, Green Day, Midnight Oil. Cool stuff.
Ida Maria “Queen Of The World”
love it !
I have never heard of Cool Stuff. Are they any good?
hi all. i’m about ready to turn in. sleepy eyes here.

Good night Green. Hope to see you sooner.
sleepy eyes here.
hey now – that’s no excuse. I’ve been running on fumes and caffeine all goddamned week.
(but if you do head off, have a pleasant evening…*g*)
Aloha ES and Ya’ll from the Mtn…! ;-)

Where is Suzanne? I have a clown thing.
LOL… I’m developing some serious callouses prepping my lot for my foundation… How’s your son doing…?
A well-deserved night to relax (we hope), lurk (probably), whatever.
I am on duty, but I have no special affinity for the Clown Car. I’m more a high-wire person myself.
doin’ good. spends the weekdays resting up from, then getting ready for, the weekend.
He’s probably gonna ship in a couple of months.
You know, I hate clowns and clown cars. Somehow the whole clown car thang became part of my fdl identity. Just like life, you don’t get to pick and choose.
I have no special affinity for the Clown Car. I’m more a high-wire person myself.
there’s a hell of a joke in there somewhere. gimme a minute.
Evening, Lurk.
e-mail to: Rachel@MSNBC.com
Hi, Rachel. I am a big fan. I have been ever since I first saw you keeping Tucker Carlson in line on his late, unlamented show. I was very pleased to see you get a show of your own. You light up my life five nights a week.
But. I hope that on Monday evening, you apologize to me and all your other cable TV fans for hosting the disgusting display of unabashed racism presented by Pat Buchanan. Really, this has no place in the public discourse. It is one thing to seek “balance” on your progressive news/commentary program by offering occasional opportinities for other voices to be heard. It is another thing to give the opposition rope enough to hang themselves (metaphorically speaking) by revealing their stupidity through their own words. But it is something else entirely to provide a public platform for a known white supremacist demogogue to spew vile racist propaganda for an extended period of time on your program, time that could better be spent having a responsible conservative spokesman, a distinguished law professor perhaps, offer a reasoned if misguided critique of Judge Sotomayor’s judicial philosophy.
Although I did enjoy watching you verbally destroy Buchanan, you could have done that through the use of brief quotes rather than giving the man himself extensive face time on your show. Your listeners deserve better than Pat Buchanan’s angry hate speech. MSNBC would do better to keep dear old demented “Uncle Pat” locked in the closet when it comes to as sensitive an issue as race.
Sincerely,
neurophius
Hey Mary – wear your identity with pride.
*runs off, not looking back*
There are some things that just should not happen. This is one of them.
Clown car is indelibly linked to you in mind, even when I hear it in the real world…! ;-)
You gotta want it, then you will find it.
I takes what I can get.
*Sigh* I’m truly jonseing for Rachel these days… No cable…! *Sob*
lurk is a wuss – high wire is 2″ off the ground
707! Howdy, Suz…! ;-)
with a net.
While I would like to agree with you, there’s something to be said for leading these cretins, particularly Buchanan, to their own end. Or rather, pointing them towards their end.
Rachel did it right, IMO. Yeah, it was a sickening display.
hee hee hee
Was that a rare CTuttle sighting?
*ouch*
Go back to sleep.
Ma’am.
Yes Ma’am…! *g*
I agree. You can lead a racist to water but you can’t make him think.

Uh-oh… That left a mark…! ;-)
You really stepped in it that time.
I remember well when baseball owners banned Marge Schott, a rabid and virulent racist, and more memorably John Rocker. Free speech is just that – free, no matter how despicable.
We need these dogs out front, barking and scratching themselves, for all to see.
Tell me about it…
not wearing my mod hat — am wearing my troublemaker hat. it brings out the color of my eyes yanno
*Sigh* WTF is this noise…
Like during the Sotomayor hearings.
How much health care would that purchase? Fuckery. More fuckery.
42.9b sure would help offset the cost of health care for every man woman and child
Sorry to say, but yes.
Sullying that process was inevitable. When you got nothing, you throw smoke and crap.
Sessions was literally born to perform as he did.
whatcha drinking?
There certainly is a plethora of them in the MSM…!
That man scares the crap out of me.
a pack of bullshitters.
To see Rachel just disembowel him weeks before the hearings – beautiful. But also a warning of what was to come. And it did.
But it was one of the best media take-downs in recent memory, behind Jon Stewart’s offerings.
Didn’t see it. Darn.
Sessions actually went on MSNBC… And with Rachel…???
Dayam that must have been memorable…!
These guys got it. From May.
Maddow: Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III, (R-AL) – SJC Ranking Member?
That man scares the crap out of me.
In the sense that he wields some power, I agree.
I’ve got a feeling though, that in person, that little weasel could be put on the dead run with a halfway decent impersonation of Suz’s giving him “the look”.
tiny little man who can only talk the talk is my guess.
And the beat goes on… 8-(
http://thinkprogress.org/2009/…../#comments
I sincerely have the vapors.
the guy gives “stupid” a bad name.
on edit: maybe some day, if Beauregard works and studies *real* hard, he might ascend into the ranks of “stupid”.
Mahalo, newt! Altho I do have to wait to see it… The computer up here doesn’t allow any flash players to be downloaded…!
time to head off g’nite pups
His peeps love him. They bark, he bites.
Ranking member, however flaccid a title, is not an inconsiderable position. But Democrats are probably not the best examples of that theorem.
never mind
‘evenin ES, Pups, Lurk, Suze!
Isn’t great how the collective IQ of Congress jumped so many points now that SENATOR Franken (ghod i lurv saying that) has been sworn in?
He is close personal friends with Mr. Rove. How else could an idjit like him become a senator. If Rove can put Don Siegelman in jail he can put Sessions in the senate.
nite suz
Aloha, Suz…! Howdy, NDFG…! Long time no see…! ;-)
Keith manages to reveal “Boss” Limbaugh as the slime that he is, and put him down for it, without inviting him on the show. Buchanan deserves no better. However, perhaps some MSNBC policy required Rachel to allow Buchanan, an MBNBC commentator, air time if she was going to go after him directly. Personally, I did not need to hear all his noise to understand how crazed and dangerous he and his type are. A little bit would have been enough.
hey ND-
I think Franken is going to surprise a lot of people.
Sometimes you have to really show them the true math…
yep, he has an awesome amount of wonkitude.
nite Suz.
Me too – after The Week From Hell, I’m now officially shot.
I’m gonna listen to this one myself before I hit it, so I’ll throw it up here too.
p.s. I sound *fantastic* in the car while singin’ along with this – fits my voice:

Aloha, jayt…!
Perry Mason references aside, his exam of Sotomayor was good. And no one but Senator Al Franker had the stones to bring net neutrality (in his first question) into the hearings. Right out of the box, he asked her to challenge it on 1st Amendment grounds. That was pretty good stuff.

Krystol or Sessions – it’s a toss- up.
Saintful restraint there Sunny.
ok – so I’m still noodling around on YouTube before surrendering – here’s an interesting version of “Love Hurts”. Not as good as the Gram Parsons/Emmylou version but interesting nonetheless.
Elvis Costello and Emmylou:

p.s. and goddamn Nazareth for ruining this song for 99% of the general population.
Hiya, pups.
Just finished cleaning up the day’s house painting messes.
Nazareth’s was the first version I remember hearing. Thanks for this.

Johnette is fascinating – I love watching her move almost as much as i enjoy listening.
(stick with it til at least the 2:30 mark when she cuts loose)
p.s. letterman *never* gushes like this….
yes it is. As I said, the Gram Parsons/Emmylou version is better and will really knock your socks off. I’m sure that there’s a Youtube, and it’s on the Grievous Angel album.
Looks like we’re in store for a gorgeous weekend here in p-town. I’ve been anticipating another hike all week. This is a pic of spring I took a few weeks ago south of Hood River.
Some pic!
tell ya what – I won’t post the same song by G.P and Emmylou, but see if you like this one. Give it until the end:

hell of an album.
rut-roh – looks like maybe we’ve hit the portion of the program where I’m just entertaining myself?
*yawn*
gotta sleep sometime
nite jayt
nite pups
jayt – nice Gram Parsons song and video. I noticed there were a few pics of Joshua Tree in there. I understand that Joshua Tree was Gram Parsons’ spiritual retreat. I’ve been there once – millennium NYE on the land of one of the members of the band Ween. The music was a little different than GP, but it was a place to remember.
another (studio version) Concrete Blonde – offered without comment, other than you’ll either really love it or really hate it – ’tis a bit intense.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqpYqTtIhVs
where the heck *is* Joshua Tree?
I think I’ve hit that wierd wall of tired where it doesn’t seem to really matter whether I’m technically awake or asleep….
So – unless it pisses someone off or gets offensive, I’m probably just gonna keep playing the jukebox.
Joshua Tree is west of los angeles and north of Palm Springs, I think. When I got picked up at LAX on NYE, I had just flown in from the east coast and made a b-line out there – on an empty stomach.
A very un-Dylan-ish Bob Dylan. I like this one a lot:

Aloha, ET! When’s the other shoe gonna drop on Miz Sarah…! What’s been the mood since she announced her resignation…?
hmmm – *west* of L.A. is the ocean. S’okay – sounds like, in general, it’s maybe kind of in the middle of nowhere, CA?
CA has a whole lot more nowhere than a lot of people would realize, I’d bet. Get away from the coast, and it can in spots, get pretty barren, pretty quick.
You…? I’m only pissed that I can’t open them(vids)up here…! ;-)
jayt – ha ! That weird wall of tired you’ve hit has left your bearings intact.
For something completely different, ere’s a house track for anyone so inclined to tolerate the progression: Zippo
thanks, CTut.
Son seems to think that he’s not going to get his college waiver ’cause a sergeant has taken a liking to him, and wants to take him along to Iraq to be in his security detail. (technically, one needs to be in for 2 full years before being able to leave to do college – but it can be waived at 18 months)
Anyway, he thinks he’s going to Balaad Air Base – mostly for the purpose of helping to shut the thing down – or so he’s being told….
This is disheartening…
Hope for the best, expect the worst… That’s the Army way…! It does fit the timeline that Bush signed and Obama is continuing… I saw an article the other day that Maliki is happy that we’re relegated to the outskirts of the urban centers and hasn’t asked for any combat support in those areas…! ;-)
Here’s one of my personal faves on why we’re f*cking up Afghanistan now…

This story was on the front page of the Oregonian this week. Apart from greatly helping our men and women in uniform from not getting maimed and killed by being on the urban outskirts, they are getting some much, much needed protection from the psychological stress of endless war – a very difficult to treat outcome that affects up to a staggering 40% of those who have served in Iraq and Afg. Good news indeed. Original disaster notwithstanding, this should have happened years ago.
Sueños all
yeah – I’m starting to get that.
His MOS has to do with working on the missile and night-vision systems of Bradleys – useless at Hood, probably useless at the moment in Iraq. So if he’s assigned to security detail for a couple of sergeants in Maintenance, I’m thinking he should be ok – no real reason for either of those guys to go outside the wire…..
An accurate assessment… AFB’s are pretty safe and it seems he has no need to cross the wire and face any viable threat…! His only true peril would be from indirect fire(mortars, etc) being lobbed onto the AFB… A truly slim possibility…!
Aloha, Muzzy! My Boyz(HI Guard) are already winding down from their second tour in Iraq and should be back here in Aug… Sounds like the OR Guard is taking their spot…!
Nite Muzzy.

Aloha, dood..!
Good morning. Anyone up?
Morning eCAHN
Good morning fhm. Have you not gone to sleep yet, or are you up for the day?
Little groggy here and turned on the toobz only to find a rerun of a Larry Summers presser – ugh
Up for the day.
Yep. Had to click that off. Instead I’m listening to yesterday’s democracynow. Howard Dean was the guest.
May I ask why you’re such an early riser? You like in Colorado, right? Where it is not even 5am yet.
Craving some OJ can I pour you a glass
That would be loverly. May I offer you some coffee in return?
OJ on the way – hope you like high pulp.
Coffee is making
I have always been an early riser. I find the early hours, quieter, cooler most enjoyable.
I’m a middle riser. Usually up around 7, sometimes as early as 6, like today, sometimes as late as 8. Usually conked out between 10 & 11, though sometimes I stay up for TDS.
Good morning. I’m usually reading FDL previous nights posts at this time, along with a couple of other blogs.
As I have gotten older I have needed more sleep, Need 6 to 7 hrs now. Used to get about 4 to 5.
I picked up some old shutters at the curb last week, and I have someone coming in an hour to look at them to see if he can make a bat house out of them. 30 years ago, when we bought the house, we had bats in the attic. No more for that. But bats, like bees, are under stress, so anything else that I can do for them would be a good thing.
Good morning CT.
Guess it is going to be all Walter Cronkite this weekend. RIP To bad he couldn’t pass his craft on to the current generation.
Yes, I paid my respects to him last night. I labored far too long under the delusion that the next generation was like him.
In another 20 minutes or so, when the dn replay is over, I’m gonna go read.
Haven’t gotten the paper yet. After that it is lawn mower time here.
Yes. I think I first noticed the loss of objectivity and reporting standards after the bomb went off at the Atlanta olympics. The news media made all kinds of statements derrogating and implying the guilt of that poor guy. Earlier, I had listened to the first Carter-Reagan debate and thought Carter killed Reagan with facts. I didn’t know who George Will was, and assumed he was supposed to be an objective commentor on ABC. Much later, I learned that he had coached Reagan. I thought WTF?
If Will coached Reagan that would explain why Reagan was fact free.
I felt that the slanting was very much prevalent when Watergate actually happened during the McGovern campaign.
Off to read. Be well everyone.
It may have been, but I didn’t notice it. I understood that the reports were telling me that McGovern didn’t have any real chance, but I didn’t particularly notice that they were reporting or not reporting issues with a bias favoring Nixon. I may have been naive but was still under the assumption that opinon was separated from reporting and clearly labelled.
I was working on the McGovern campaign so I felt it.
good morning all.
Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media might be of interest….
Good morning everyone. I don’t know why but I’m in a more hopeful mood this morning.
If you’re still here, what are you reading?
are you refering to the “your position has no chance so give it up” message?
that is most excellent!
i’m struggling from lack of caffeine at the moment. no coffee in the house. so, in a minute i’m going to have to go get some.
That was a major part of the message. I really found the watergate scandal to be a vindicating moment.
Good morning all. What time does the PUAC come up?
I don’t think that I could go to sleep at night knowing that there wasn’t coffee for the morning in the house.
i’m glad you got your vindication!
… been thinking about the message @151 issue a lot lately and how it is used to stifle debate. jay rosen’s “religion of savvy” captures a big part (but only a part) of it.
post
interview with glenn
Made me laugh!
Cbl panics if the can gets below 1/4. (I have threatened to put her on an IV drip.)
Good article
IV drip sounds good
A thought occurred to me last night. I read that the ins. companies are pulling out all stops, spending huge amounts of money to stop reform. We know that the politicians are being bought (legalized bribery) but what I wondered last night is if the insurance companies are also funnelling money to the media. You think Rush is getting a few bucks to go on a rant? Glen Beck? Worse, more mainstream people that we view as being more objective. Washington Post?
i’d read it before, but i don’t think it really sank in until recently when ralphbon mentioned the interview the glenn and i listened to it again. the bill moyers interview also was good.
http://www.pbs.org/moyers/jour…..ript4.html
anyway…. i’m off to the local coffee shop. must. get. some.
These insurance companies are spending huge amounts of money that they have ripped off from people thinking they were buying health care.
Don’t know if it is overt, in the form of ads, or covert, in the form of direct payments, but the payola flows and it appears to me that the fix is in.
Far to many of the actual players can’t tell the difference between health insurance and health care. None of the players seem to be able to say that we already spend more than enough money to provide ALL the people in this country with health care we just spend it very poorly.
Much like trying to fix a financial system that is fundamentally flawed without addressing the root causes just treating the symptoms, lawmakers continue to act as if there is a solution to be found that involves insurance companies for our health care crisis.
As far as I’m concerned, 2.3 trillions a year spent on health care is double what it needs to be. I have seen nothing from congress yet that leads me to believe there is any political will to put insurance companies in their place. That place being the history books.
The estimates are that 20K people die every year as a result of lack of health care. That works out to aproximately 54.79 per day. Congress wants to go on vacation for 5 weeks that works out to 1,917.81 people that will die while they play.
There’s no doubt in that happening in my mind. I see it first hand with the insane drug prices that are so common now.
Pharma is going to come out like a bandit with this legislation. Some classes of drugs will have their intellectual propriety extended to 13 years. (This protects them from generics) Additionally the pharma practice of paying generic cos. to not compete is not being addressed.
back home with coffee… and feeling better until i looked at the news.
