Yesterday in the NYT

President Bush and his top aides panicked after the Sept. 11 attacks.

HORSESHIT!

Their Rape of the Constitution began immediately, as they worked from carefully made plans that were years in the making.

The NYT knew perfectly well what happened on 9/11, BEFORE THE EVENTS OCCURRED. It is now spoon-feeding its readers with phony claims of concern, hoping to deflect future accusations of complicity.

FU, NYT.

Perhaps they were too kind in that assessment, but I do like their closing paragraph. They say “accounting”. I might have said “investigation and prosecution”, but I’ll take what I can get.

President Obama has refused to open a full investigation of the many laws that were evaded, twisted or broken — pointlessly and destructively — under Mr. Bush. Mr. Obama should change his mind. A full accounting is the only way to ensure these abuses never happen again.

OT, true to form the Democrats are dropping “card check” legislation. Obama and the Dems in Congress are shitting on the unions and the progressives in the Democratic Party. Would the Greens be viable if there were enough progressive defections from the Democratic Party?

Mornin’, BT, pups.

I’d like to know how the union-hostile NLRB will enforce the new time period for elections after 30% of workers sign union cards.

9/11 was not a surprise for those in the know. Those who were waiting for the day the attack happened read children’s books as New York burned and didn’t look stunned at all.

This son-of-a-bitch will never see the inside of a courtroom as a defendant but his name will go down in infamy. I think we’re gonna have to settle for that. Public ridicule at every turn would be fun, though.

I hope the class was applauding the demonstrator, rather than Yoo or just the fact that they got a walk. If so, it would seem he might have a little difficulty routinely lecturing hostile classes.

what ever happened to what was, for a time, a rather large outcry for the disbarment of Yoo, Bybee, et al, if ya know?

I believe that there was also a quasi-official (from D.C.)(somewhere) recommendation of legal sanctions against these hacks?

Love the Wingnut Welfare link!

I wonder how much the ACU would charge to endorse NAMBLA?

good morning SD. if our institutions fail us, i like the idea of citizen accountability (via the public ridicule as you note is shown in the youtube).

i’m listening to howard dean on democracy now! talk about healthcare reform…. (just started).

here’s my quote for the day on healthcare reform:

If reform is to be effective, it must be based on sound policy science. Instead, it is being based on political messaging. It may sound good, but nothing fits together. What a disaster.

it’s from Don McCanne, MD at pnhp. and here’s his bio:

Dr. Don McCanne is PNHP’s Senior Health Policy Fellow. He served as President of Physicians for a National Health Program in 2003-2004. Dr. McCanne has published a daily health policy “quote of the day” in support of single payer on-line for six years to wide acclaim in the health policy community. The focus of his work is “evidence-based” health policy and health care reform. Dr. McCanne has given hundreds of talks to national and local medical professional, civic, and faith groups, and debated proponents of “free-market” based health reforms and health savings accounts as well as advocates of individual and employer mandates. For three decades, Dr. McCanne allotted one-half of his practice hours as a family physician in San Clemente, California to indigent patients. He was cited by the San Clemente City Council as being “…outspoken, especially when it involves the elderly and underprivileged, because he believes that the ability to pay should not be the major criterion for receiving health care.” Dr. McCanne has elected to dedicate the remainder of his productive years to full-time activism on behalf of the cause of non-profit national health insurance. An archive of his daily postings is on-line on PNHP’s website.

IIRC only the states have the power to disbar and CA and PA seem disinclined to do so.

That colleges allow him to teach Constitutional law says a lot about our colleges today. In the 60s colleges were institutions of learning. Now, with most following a strict business model, like USF here, learning takes a back seat to corporate interests.

Amy will be in Tampa again in late August. She’s hosting the WMNF Peace Awards and has been nominated for it herself. We need more low power FM stations in areas with no community radio station and where that’s not possible, pirate radio.

ack.

just had to stop by to say that howard dean completely misrepresented what single payer is (on democracy now! this morning). he can’t possibly be that ignorant. i am so sick of the bullshit nonsense from public option advocates. i’m all for honest disagreements and respectful discussions. but after 8 years of bushco, i’ve completely OD’ed on the dishonest propaganda.

dear dr. dean: please read this: Single-Payer National Health Insurance
