zed?
zed?
Yes! where’s nahant?
Hi Sunny. neener neener
Lovely summer evening!
hey dosido
hey sunny
how’s things where you are?
My Nasty Habit is in the closet – which I’ll wear on certain Halloweens.
But hey that Hammond B3 solo is a frikking SMOKER! WEEEEEE! Wish I could do that.
Hail Muse Suz!
howdy. it’s hot but cooling down. It’s been makin’ me tired.
hey kelly
hey hmmm
was sunny then foggy here. fog disappeared just before sunset. nice comfy temps in the 60’s today and lows in the 50’s tonight.
My nasty habit is an addiction to salt — every foreign salt is welcome at my table, except iodized.
oh, strummers with chicken legs! oh my!
So, what’s your beverage of choice? *g*
hey ce – i’ve been experimenting with salts.. sea and kosher are the two i’m using the most
Weak, but from last summer, here’s the best B3 organ type solo I could muster. Great Gig in the Sky by Pink Floyd, sequenced by me, and “live organ” voice via my trusty Triton synthesizer.
although, in a while, i’ll be using the epsom kind… my back is really tweaking tonight
oooh, nice. It was in the nineties here a couple of days ago. thought I was gonna melt. I like it in the 70s. Perfect.
We went back East and I regaled people with tales of Mark Twain in SF “the coldest winter, etc” and how many jackets and sweaters they sell at Pier 39…and then came back to 90 degree weather. ack.
They (back EAst) are having record rainfall for the summer. One guy in RI said it was the rainiest June since 1903.
Leaving iodized salt, I pledged my life to kosher salt. That said, I met and embraced sea salts from France, Spain, Portugal and Hawaii. Travel to other countries, the first place I’m found is buying salt.
green tea, thank ya kindly! :P
way kewl kelly. when i have a video that has kick ass organ (like this one)i think of you and firepup alicia morgan
And that kind too, Epsom my friend.
can you really taste a difference?
I have sea salt and kosher and (gasp) iodized. Tell me why you guys are off iodized…
I’ve given up most of my nasty habits: smoking, gin and tonic (sigh, I really miss you)…
sort of off topic organ story. Can I say that? Organ story?
We visited Brown U and they have a huge pipe organ in one of their buildings. This organist plays it on the four “scariest days” of the year: Halloween, the last day of classes before finals (that counts for two), and the first day as a freshman. The kids bring their sleeping bags and sleep over during the concert.
i like sea salt because i use less of it than regular salt. i’m on thyroid replacement pills already for the thyroid and get plenty of ionized salt in packaged goods.
hehehehe nothing is off topic at night – even organs :)
used to go to a pizza parlor in martinez (ca) that had a pipe organ. forking great experience around halloween indeed.
Iodized is really bitter — Martha Stewart (sorry) has a very interesting show about salt and tasting. It was right on. I love kosher salt for brinning and cooking. Other salts for polishing off a great dish, like steak, or pasta.
i have switched over to using kosher for baking. sea salt is bigger and doesn’t dissolve as easy.
have you ever been to the Castro theater in SF? They still have the organ that rises up out of the floor and a guy plays it before the previews. Or at least they did back in the day I went there. It was so fun.
Not so weak. Clare Torry and Richard Wright are a very hard act to follow.
Beautiful piece.
Hey Suz
You zedded the right girl tonight. Japanese gyokuro coming up. Brewed as it should be.
i’ve heard of it but only heard it on telly. iirc, it would get featured on sf local news around halloween.
hey newton – how’s the bay area tonight?
And covers food better. Kosher salt is wonderful. I also use it every morning to neti pot (or nasal cleanse) and gave up my nasal inhaler.
Oh, good to know about the salt. I’ll try it.
haha. martha stewart. One day near thanksgiving I was out and about running errands. I come back to find my then four year old sitting on the couch watch MS with her daddy (who never watches TV on the weekends, much less cooking shows). Anyway, the show was all about cranberries from the bog to the elaborate jello mold she was using. I walk in right at the moment MS pulls a freakin’ blow torch from under the counter to release the mold. “You’re kidding me, right?” and my hubby says “that was the first weird thing, honest!” too funny.
Weather’s weird all over. In my area of Ohio, it’s dry like NM. Very comfortable, not as humid as usual, i’m really enjoying it. Neighbors are freaking because they have to water their tomatoes and flowers, oh no!
hahahahaha
hey margot
Hot. Very nice days.
Up there?
Thanks – nice of you; you can’t actually be Pink Floyd, but you can do yer best when yer trying to play ‘em. I appreciate your comment.
cool very nice cool days and nites – which i love. i carry my own personal summer around with me – don’t need extra hot
turns out it stays light about an hour later than it does down there newton.
We expected storms tonight — no luck, hey Margot!
yeah, watering. we do that a lot here. everything was sooooo green back East and I was coveting everyone’s front gardens. Lots of hostas and hydrangeas (sp?)…and different trees you don’t get to see in CA.
Man, I’m learning a lot tonight! thanks. yummy!
my rock and roll fantasy is to be able to learn to play piano and play Allman Bros. “Jessica”. a girl can dream, can’t she?
I recently watched (again) the “Making Of…”
The construction of “Great Gig” is heady stuff.
Now, for the first time in many years, I see brownish front lawns. But yes, there are so many beautiful plants and flowering trees. I still don’t know the names of lots of them.
Hi Suz, Chris and everyone!
funny d is letting me borrow her viola – i had not played one in 41 years – turns out i forgot a whole lot more than i thought i remembered.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfM6nRVBvGs
Hell ya – there’s tricks though; the boys have distributed the workload across the band. Doing it solo takes some cojones, but it’s doable!
You just gotta imagine yer fingers as band members instead of belonging to yer hands if that makes sense…
viola? VIOLA!
hey emerson – was hoping someone would drop that video in… hmmm nice ear candy
viola
GIMME THAT VIOLA SUZ!
Wow, viola.
no one touches the viola – i swear, it only sounds like it is in pain when i play
Oh! interesting! Yeah, it’s specifically the piano part of the song I want to learn…my arms would fall off trying to do the whole marathon for sure! :]
going to go watch the vid at 50, thanks emerson…
Wonderful! I wish that I could play any musical instrument.
God I love violas.
Unsung heroes in the orchestra and the chamber music literature. I’ll bore anybody to tears who wishes to hear!
That said, Cellos totally rock. ROCK I TELL YOU!
Tom Waits – Smuggler’s Waltz / Bronx Lullabye
arrgggggh! the camera cuts away at the height of the piano solo! denied! I have to say, he did look like he was cramping up but he got it done according to my EARS and not my EYES. the other guys looked relaxed but piano man was doubled over that keyboard. Greg, of course, looked quite, er,
stonedmellow. ;]Nasty habits, et al…
hey mr why
check out these bad boys
Yeah, Big Hair Cello bands! i’m flicking my bic!
gtg nite all! rock on!
re organs, the stanford theater in palo alto has one that comes up out of the floor too. it’s played during intermissions and accompanies silent films (they turn off the movie’s added sound track)
that might be the best AB video I’ve seen. This ain’t bad either
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22MRGWnPPIU
g’nite dosido
hey spur
this aint too bad either emerson
hey suz. hot down here!
hope it cools off spur – i don’t think i have many ‘hot’ outfits for the meetup.
@Suzanne but also @anybody; do you know string playing folks in Denver? I need to flesh out parts (unplayed, but written down) to accompany this piano/orch piece I’m writing?
i don’t know any kelly – you could do a sem diary asking… i presume you have already checked around craigslist etc.
weather underground is forecasting low 80s through tuesday, but doesn’t go any further. wear layers! (bottom one being skin)
OMG! Craiglist last year, here in Denver was, um, how shall I put it; NUTS!
How cool. Nice to see Boz out there again, and at the Beacon!
thanks spur – i’m gonna try to pack light since i want as much of the car to be used for the plants that npb has been plantsitting for the past year.
yeah… tis always a crapshoot
but on the other hand, craigslist is how i found this place
Too damn hot at the studio.
I couldn’t wait to get back home to the Marina. Boats in the water… Ahhhh
Now that’s interesting Suz; TELL!
you won’t need much, maybe a light jacket for night. i think there have been more hot days than usual
hey morris
was staying at the vacation rental north of newport – started checking craigslist in this area. this was the only ad i responded to – had no picures only a description of ‘peaceful retreat by the bay’
i’ll pack fleece – just in case. i’ll be keeping an eye on the weather channel
dragging off to bed. nite all
morris – i thought about a houseboat on the columbia… always loved being on water
g’nite spur
Ahh, the Columbia. I loved living up in Hood River a jillion years ago:
The sea and mist, caressed the trees, tenderly…
G’night Suz. Smooch!
Before Tommy Castro, SF and the Bay Area had Elvin Bishop as the King And Lord Of Blues.
He lorded at Fillmore, and Winterland, for a decade, with his bands.
One of the first and BEST of his bands (post Butterfield) in the early 70’s I recall included:
Elvin-git
Steve Miller-Hammond B3 (Steve Miller from Lynn County, not Stevie Miller Blues Band)
Jo Baker-vocals
They were the HOUSE band every weekend it seemed, in The City. *G*
I can’t find any decent Elvin from then, but here’s a good clip with some heroes. 1980 Or So?
Elvin always had his five or 6 piece band, and it seemed there was always a horn section (Tower Of Power Horns) with him, and of course, he had guests sit in every night.
Tommy Castro follows a RICH tradition of the late 60’s and early 70’s Bay Area Band Leaders and has done a FINE job in his time. And he’d be the FIRST to say Elvin paved the way . . *G*
Great clip Suz, great post. *G*
Sometimes I miss my old house on the coast, and the beach below it. Most of all I think I miss the space and the quiet and the isolation. That and the really great water from the well.
Still wish I had the sailboat. Don’t miss the expense, though.
g’nite kelly *smooch*
you were near big sur then iirc. the oregon coast reminds me a lot of sur… sustitute cedars for redwoods…
hey larue – glad ya like tommy. would love to have found a video of him doing ‘going down south’ – nasty habits is a fine song but the female singer on south rocks hard
Yeah. Sometimes I’ve thought about the Oregon coast. Certainly couldn’t afford to buy my old house now, probably worth $5 million.
i hear ya morris – this place is a rental – on a fixed income, this place was a good match budget wise.
wudda loved to be overlooking the crashing surf…. some nights i can hear the roar of distant surf but can not hear the individual waves through my open window.
Suz, thanks for pointing us to Morris’ web site the other night.
I fell into it for quite a while (dial-up yanno). Gorgeous furniture!
Still sounds nice. I think I’ll let the memory of crashing surf drift me off to sleep.
G’night all.
g’nite morris
Evening, Pups!
Hi, Suzanne
I missed Rachel’s show tonight. Is it worth watching her interview with “uncle” Pat BuKKKannan online? I had to turn off the TV halfway thru her intro.
Any bets that KO needed to go to a baseball game tonight–because there was yet ANOTHER Michael Jackson development?
Hi, Token! Hi, Firepup Pets!
FunnyWheelieDiva
hey sunny – yeah – i love looking at his pieces… imagining running my hand along the smooth wood curves. and his lights … drool
hey funny watch it here.. worth it
Great music vid picks tonite, from Castro, to ABB, Elvin Bishop, Dueling Cello’s and more.
I’d post some Rashad Eggleston, on cello, but it’s late and I’m gonna pull a Busted and g’thud.
Just google that man, and check out his fantastic and insane woik . . . first with Crooked Still, and now on his own in new configurations . . .
Nite Pups, Nite Suz, sent ya mail . . I’ll check reply tomorrow . . . eyes, heavy . . . zzzzzzz . . . . .
Hey, you got that baby out? Good for you!
It’ll come back. If I come across Kreuzer and/or Sevcic (sp) I’ll send ‘em along, book rate. Does your library have interlibrary loans?
FWDiva
g’nite larue – some nice ear candy tonight indeed
checking out the library is on my to do list. will have to do it after the meetup next week. gotta lotta things on that list – including calling and arranging delivery of the pod.
Oh, PS on the pipe organ thing.
The Paramount Theater in Seattle was built as one of the last Silent Film Palaces. A few years back, the totally restored their Mighty Wurlitzer Theater Organ. Now Trader Joe’s and STG (Seattle Theater Guild) sponsor Silent Movie Mondays a couple times a year. Dennis James plays the organ, live with the films. Way, way, way cool!
FWDiva
that is way way kewl funnyd. i’ve seen silent movies with regular organ but never heard them wtih a wurlitzer. must be magnificent
Jaybus, Pat BuKKKannan, can you dig your racist hole any deeper?!
Poor, poor white males, they don’t get 100% of the opportunities any more. Waaaaaaaah! That’s “reverse” discrimination.
Boo Fuckin’ Hoo, Pat.
Oh, and Talking Points, much, man?
100% white people at gettysburg? At NORMANDY for fuck’s sake?
The man’s a disgrace.
FWDiva
Time for round 2 of Burn Notice. BBL!
FWDiva
tolja it was worth it funnyd
she let him dig himself one big ole hole – while he got his racist rant on
i think she is sorely disappointed in the man she used to call ‘uncle pat’.
g’nite funny d
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U85nUWusC54
I sure hope she’s disappointed, and hopping mad.
But I’m glad she didn’t let him shout her down. What a total RWA. And accusing Rachel and New Yorkers of not knowing about working class people?!! Fuckin’ priceless. Asshat.
FWDiva
that’s strange-I didn’t reply to 53?
emerson dood – flashback!!!
maybe you clicked it and did not realize emerson
time for me to head out pups. gotta hit the ole epson salts. g’nite all and thanks for a fun evening of good tunes.
God, I hope not Suz! That’s a bad sign.
You know Terry Reid? Was trying to find that for you and Larue, guess He’s gone.
Howdy, Firepups.
Anyone else as upset as I am that Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan Chase are the latest in the too big to fail crowd? They should be broken up! No company should be that big, or that powerful.
Geithner and Summers might as well wear nose rings with “Goldman Sachs” inscribed upon them.
Can antitrust laws be used against them? Or don’t we have antitrust laws any more?
Disgusted,
Bob in HI
Oh, here’s the background for my comment @121:
Bob in HI
not feeling the spirit of aloha at the moment.
((((((Bob)))))
((((Bob))))
I’m trying not to think about it, not good for my blood pressure!
They only posted record profits because We The People bailed them out. Those so-called profits were leveraged with my tax dollars, and yours and everyone’s.
But 10B over 10 years is TOO EXPENSIVE when it comes to health coverage for everyone.
SPIT!
