During the period Marcy talks about, despite the fact that the Republicans and the talking heads did everything they could do to overthrow an election based on a blowjob, polls kept revealing that the electorate understood and wasn’t buying. It gave me great reassurance in democracy. </p> <p>What Hilzoy talks about, the election and lemming-like rush to war and re-election of George Bush almost completely erased that reassurance in democracy. I hope Hilzoy’s right, that the country isn’t crazy anymore, but I remain wary.
