Couple years back people were lining up in the USA to get flu shots. My 84-year-old mom had to wait for hours. People were taking the ferry from Washington State to go to Victoria, Canada to get them. Why? Because when I went to get mine I just walked over to the local London Drug store and was in and out in 3 minutes. I live in Victoria.

Solai,
My local library has been in the twilight zone without improvement for over a decade. One resident told me that after they moved to the area, they took their children to the library and after a couple of visits, the children asked the parents to not make them go there anymore. I’ve been trying for a couple of years to promote, encourage, and threaten whatever was needed to get us under the local library district’s management. That happened in April.

Nearly half the collection needed to go because of age AND lack of use, so we could get new material in. With a very limited staff, one district manager, two FTEs and two PTEs, this was going to be a big problem. Stepping into the picture was “Stimulus Money”. The new district-hired manager, a professional librarian, was able to hire three people for over the summer with money funneled through the state library from the stimulus package. They should finish up cleaning the collection by the end of August, about the time the summer funding ends. Perfect timing.

My husband’s company has bid on some Forest Service jobs under the stimulus umbrella. One was poorly done. They let the winning bidder change the specifications, so instead of sending the wood to a local US mill, the winning bidder was going to send it to Canada. Nothing against Canadians, mind you, but I want my taxpayer money going towards American jobs.

Finally, the main North/South highway is supposed to be re-paved this summer, but other than survey work, nothing has started.

knut

Hope you’re still checking in. You need to review this to to see if your opinion about it being an honest accident still holds. Like 9/11, his plane crash was a bit TOO convenient for a certain set of unnamed creeps.

You could have added the biological weapons expert in England, who was found dead with his wrists slit (but none of his fingerprints on the knife that did it) shortly after the invasion of Iraq.

Me, too. All except Wellstone, which I think was an honest accident, like the plane that went down near Buffalo last winter.

Thanks. ;-) I miss the days of Paul Wellstone popping a vein in his forehead screaming about the Iraq invasion! He was a force and Dick Cheney had to silence the truth like he always does.

But you don’t get to watch Fox News for an hour or so and restrain yourself from reacting to the resulting dumb opinions other patients feel free to voice in the waiting room. Nor do you get to go on to a cubicle and steam alone for another half hour over the crap you just heard. Those are the things we can’t do without down here.
