I was thinking it might be a wireless phone interference problem so I did quite a bit of frequency swapping with no results… I left both routers on the automatic “find the best frequency” mode. Have not used Fetch, but I have been downloading and uploading stuff from my e-mail accounts. Uploads are very problematic. A 4.6 Meg upload would not go at all until I went to the other router.

K has long since gone to bed, and I am off to bed as well. Thanks for the help. If you come up with any ideas, please drop me a line. Thanks!

Unless there’s something peculiar set in your firewall or browsing privacy settings, I can’t imagine how it could. And your performance with all but Katy’s router dissolves that solution.

But next I would try an ftp transfer. You have fetch?

Exactly. As I said, I take it for granted that you know how to manage these.

Get this: I have a client whose iMac’s wireless performance was all over the place, but their Powerbook G4’s was perfect. Pulled all their wireless phones, checked the neighbors for 2.4ghz broadcasts, wnet crazy for months on it.

Finally found it - their neighbor 2 doors down had this funky rigged sprinkler system that broadcasted at 2.4, but it only affected their iMac Intel N-ready machine, and didn’t affect the Powerbook G-Ready at all. And the iMac was nearly 90 feet farther away than the laptop.

Live and learn.

And I’d love to know what’s different about a Mac upload from a PC upload. How does the router know it is talking to a Mac?

And the download speed is fine… so I suspect there’s not an encryption problem. Just to check, I turned off the encryption on her wireless router and had the same symptoms. One difference between our routers is that right now, mine is wide open. There are not too many settings in the D-Link routers and I went through both of them looking for discrepancies without finding anything. I should have done a hard reset on her router, but I haven’t yet since her computer is working fine.

Further, if you were using WPA2 or higher encryption, I can see where the MacBook might have trouble ’seeing’ it. But WEP is so docile that it seems unlikely.
