Nahant !
Hey Petro how are things up in your neck of the woods??
Good evening everyone.
I hope KellyCD does not mind my posting this tonight. If you put it on YouTube, you better watch out. /s ’
We’re seeing cooler temps and more rain than the usual July … otherwise life is perfect !
How’re things with you ?
We be doing OK Petro, we had some rain down here in the Bay Area…in July?? Not supposed to happen!! We are looking forward to the Meetup on the 25th!! We have about 9 planing to be here so far … Hopefully more will be able to make it!!
hey you ES
Anyone here know anything about internet wifi cards connected to a usb port? I purchased one on Friday and my reception is really lousy. Takes about 2 to 4 minutes to completely refresh this page.
Hi Teddy
I hope it is a great success and eagerly await newt’s … *cough* … detailed videos ! *G*
Did you see that the blog, Moon of Alabama has shut down? Too bad. There were some bright individuals there.
Oh yeah Newt called me today and says he will try and make the meetup!! He seems to be doing OK.
Yes.. I miss it terribly. Ordered an archive CD.
evening all.
Blog Whorin http://seminal.firedoglake.com/diary/6293
I wanted a debate about free speech instead, Can the mystical be discussed on a Lefty Blog is what the comments seem to come out as cause I was Angry! And I want my God to solve an Injustice.
Raven and Norske if you see this please weigh in pro or con Heck I’m likely to argue either way Socrates Thesis Antithesis its my way still your comments would be good.
Nahant I’d love to come but unless I can squeeze some cash I doubt it the food alone sounds worth the drive.
Hi SunnyN..)
Net connection iffy so good nite. Maybe:)
Hi Sunny, ES, everyone;)

Hey Sunny
Good evening Miss Margot..)
I came to the meetup in Santa Cruz at Suzanne’s cabin to help move her, but do not like long drives with the beater. So unless a ride is forthcoming…
Second day of hiking up the mountain perfect weather for backpacking. Almost ready to row again cast not withstanding.
Close the door
turn out the lights
enjoyed this the other night; good to to see the front page exposure. nice work , KellyC
So, should we expect this KellyCDenver (I’m betting from his style that he’s a Keith Jarrett aficionado) person to take a live bow?
Evening, ES.
Seems to me BB you have more to worry about trying to make the drive!! But we sure would love to see you again.. if that ride suddenly appears… How is your wing doing and all your other wounds doing??
Newt you made this evening(:>))
KellyCDenver made the evening. I just happened by.
Why is the military budget 57% of the total budget, Shouldn’t that be a topic for the FDL? Has there been a post.
Stop using our taxes to kill people.
Well still great to see ya!
Hey newtonusr, KCD didn’t know this was coming up, so who knows?
How are you?
wakeful, thank you. nice new digs you guys have here.
Arroyo will gladly accept some pallets of hundred dollar bills. No problem. Though there have been skirmishes with ex-military types who want to overthrow Arroyo and company, the Muslim problem is mostly confined to the southern and central islands. Arroyo wants no part of them anyway.
newton!
hey, I’ve been pecking out one handed posts at Ox/Seminal now and then. You can too. /s Seriously, 57 percent!?
I’m healing fast the gash on the right palm (17 stitches) almost closed and little coming out. The knee is great…I back packed twice this weekend up the local mountain 5 hours and three hours jogging down hill on the sandy trail. The rare native plants are inspiring up on the Manzanita trail. 3 more weeks for the caste. Winding down.
No kidding.. they did a wonderful job, didn’t they? I just want a t-shirt w/ new design on it.
hi sunny!
Glad you are healing BB, but do be careful in the mountains and trails ya can’t afford another trip and fall.
ok, wait… wtf happened bb?
Would I lie to You
Gravel covered pavement meet BB G)
Madness the Mystical there is no room for it in a Western world of Science is that why I cling so much to logic and science? Am I fighting desires this world has no room for but still are?
lol
Yep, I loved that place for non USA based thoughts . . . it’s a sad loss. Been about what, two weeks now since B announced it? Some GREAT characters there, with really insightful world affairs opinions.
Here’s to B, Billmon, and the whole phrellin crew over the years. They did good.
Slainte Mhath!
i was nine or ten the last time i met formally with pavement at a significant velocity. you know, indestructible.
hope you heal fast.
Agreed!
Hoss, know yer movin and likely stressed and such, wishin ya well and always like your rants.
But a REAL discussion of Free Speech Issues requires some insight and study of Supreme Court Case Law, tied to some Constitutional Analysis coursework and more.
The only reason I know this is I had two courses in both in college as a com studies major.
And I’ve forgotten it all, trust me! All except for recalling it DOES require knowing, for example, what the case law about Fire In Theatre was all about. And Free Speech.
Man I wish I could recall the NAME of that class, but the Prof, one Mr. Burnett at CSU, Sacramento, was a HOSS of a monster about the genre and how it related to com studies. It was almost a pre law class . . . brutal for me, as a PR and Journo guy with little love for reading text law cases and analyzing Supreme opinoins. From like, 1800 forward . . . but man, the point stuck with me.
Freedom Of Speech, as a constitutional writ, is really, really complicated as you track it to now.
And you have to track it thru the Supremes. *G*
Hope things level for ya with condo sale, housing and such.
Keep on ranting when ya can, I’m reading. *G*
kiss-ass. you’re just trying to up the body-count for your event.
BB, where do you favor backpacking? I used to do Yosemite to Whitney . . . some xcountry . . . when I was young and svelte, that is . . . early 70’s to late 80’s. Man I still have love for Blackcap Basin (east of Fresno almost to Kings Canyon).
Newton, glad to see you!
Thank you Newt got two strains of AB finished second one first. Knee is great now with a little Tea Tree Oil (not the Tin Man) took the sorenees tight out with the infection. 17 stitches on the right palm had them out to drain the infection. Closing quickly. All is good.
You read MOB? Did you ever keep after Billmon’s? I was not surfing when he did his thing, he’s a piece of blogging history, though, from what I can tell . . . MOB and B was a good place to get serious detail of things we never get in USA . . . *G*
Do you really think I want a bunch of Pups eating all my fresh home grown tomatoes?? Oh yea and the Jambalaya with Apple & Peach Pies for dessert?
Keith Jarrett, The Wind Up!! Got the vinyl! *G* Jan Grabarek (sp) on reed. Awesome stuff that album.
i was luckier in my macadam-moment – i did a face-plant on a steep hill when my ten-speed’s front wheel got caught in a sewer grate
Is that your excuse??
14 – fell outta a vw van making a left turn… fell out the side door landed on my hips and back (and the back of my head) and then flipped over and skidded my face across 2 lanes.
got a trip to icu outta it and came this close to brain surgery. talked my way outta that one.
and with that i’m out – g’nite all
I caught the last year(ish) of Billmon. MOB I read quite often. No other place like it. Hopefully the gang will meet again in another place.
Ouch!
Dude!
The only Jarret I have is a live concert – Bremen & Lausanne – he did a million years ago. He just sits down and starts playing. Vinyl also.
ES, is an internet wi-fi card different than an air card?
Holy crap!
nite Suz..
it is indeed
yellow Schwinn ten-speed got bent badly.
i didn’t need those lips anyway.
nite suz!
I’m not sure. It’s slips into the usb port… has a little flap on a swivel with a flashing blue light on it. Speed test indoors ranges from 80 to 300. Outside it ranges from 600 to 1500. My cell phone store folks sold it to me on Friday.. and in ES they close on weekends.
I need that outdoor speed indoors asap! *s*
Youch! Where ya been, newt?
Sounds Heavenly…up there where the air is rare.
New Mexico has good mountains in the North. Half dome Yosemite is good work out. I had Yosemite Sam Mud flaps but a car wash ripped them.
Up hill is good lot of Nature walks here…I do my own
Ningamapa Ascenders Bhuddist climbers
Somewhere there’s a show with Jean Luc, Keith Jarrett, and that same sax hound, Garberek (sp).
Or so I’ve heard! *G*
What I KNOW is that I saw Bela Fleck, Banjo, Stanley Clarke, double bass, and Jean Luc, violin at http://www.strawberrymusic.com a year or so back.
My. Effin. Dawg. Clarke. And I’ve followed him a BIT from RTF with Correa long ago. But I’ve NEVER seen or heard anything like what he showed on the dawghouse as we bluegrassers call it.
And that performance is etched deep in my mind . . . *G* Fine, fine music. All three of them.
Hmm . . . wonder if it’s out there somewhere, like on http://www.dimeadozen.com? Just sayin . . *G*
what are you connecting to? the community broadband wireless net?
p.s. i got a piece of mail yesterday. thanks.
had the toe clips on? Ouch!
hey beautiful… lost my way, my bloodhound instincts left me for a time. nice to see you.
actually, no. i was at speed and at a significant grade.
i wouldn’t have known what happened, cept my bike was still jammed in the grate when i figured out where i was.
Alltell wireless for 60.00 a month. Dropped my bluetooth for half that price. Will be more than worth it if I can get 900 to 1500 kbs out of it. Bluetooth was often 200 to 300.. great days hit 5 or 6.
i’m not strictly a jazz fan, so in my yoot, i thought jarrett was just a guy full of himself. i’m told that while he is indeed full of himself, he is considered a virtuoso.
let’s say i like it more now than in the 70’s. but i haven’t listened to it in 20 years. and i still remember its ’sound.’
Heh, not then, nor now am I a fan of the uphill just for the workout!!! lol
But yeah, tween Yosemite (Tualumne Meadows) and northern part of Kings Canyon, on both East and West side of the Sierra’s, are some incredible places to hike, below, at, and above timber line.
One particular insane trip saw me, two buddies aged 22, and two 45+ teachers with 20 high school kids go up the wrong glacier/saddle on Mt. Lyle . . . without crampons, ropes or ice axes.
Ya ever seen a three foot wide ice/snow bridge with pure mountain on yer left and a 300 foot drop to an icy blue pool of snow melt? Without tools? At 13,200 or so?
We saw a snow finch, of all things, and a sky pilot . . . right out of the rock. Incredible. Purple like the sky got.
*G*
Hoofing mountains with a backpack, for a week or two, just seems so remote and long ago, and it was.
But what memories . . . I been places cross country in them Sierra’s maybe no one has ever seen . . . or few folks, anyway. *G*
got it.
here’s a tidbit – i was in the verizon store a month ago and the dude happened to mention that verizon bought alltel.
Were ya ever a fan of Correa, Airto, Flora?
How did you get to ER?
i was too busy with the beatles and the temps. and by the time i was old enough to get a clue, i was all over the rock guitar gods. i just never latched onto jazz. missed it.
You took a break, huh? It’s good to do that once in a while.
i have no idea.
Hey, I gotta go . . . thanks to all for a fine chat bout many things, and thanks to the MOD that kept my comments released for comsumption . . *G*
Namaste all . . . we do it all over again, in the morrow.
I’m kinda COUNTING on that, all of us, part . . *G*
“Better to plant daisies than push daisies.”
Yes. Friday was alltell’s last official day. Which is why I made the move then. Prices went up Sat, and they will charge extra for anything over 5 gigs DL a month.
Bye bye net neutrality. Hello metered and monitored internet use.
But not for me, not yet. *s
rehearsal for retirement. you could give me lessons.
Hmmm . . . Bay Area, me. ‘63 to ‘88.
Saw The Beatles TWICE, at Cow Palace, as a pre teen!!!
My older early teen whacked sis had to take me!!
I love my parents, bless them both long gone, for that one!
And now, poof for sure . . *gone*
I’m listening to Chick Corea and John McLaughlin ” Five Piece Band” live in ‘71 now.
chimpy’s (michael powell & kevin martin’s) reign over the FCC served the corpGods well.
only thing for it is a mass exodus of the public from the airwaves. how likely is that?
Well don’t miss this, whatever you do!
Les McCann and Eddie Harris.
I liked hiking with my dog Blackjack…he really enjoyed sniffing and leaving his mark. I repelled him down a local peak one day..he was for running around the Bay (10 miles) followed my boat as I rowed and would hunt a deer trail and come home late after swimming across the Bay. Walking, jogging, running, hiking get good air in your circulatory syste and keeps you loose and flexible. Whoa lot of good stuff.
For Goldman, a Swift Return to Lofty Profits
Talk about FUCKERY, We been had again by these rich pricks!!
Matt Taibbi has the low down on these Rich Pricks:

Matt Taibbi on how Goldman Sachs has engineered every major market manipulation since the Great Depression
Depends on the economy I suppose.. lot’s of folks can’t pay 60 to 100 bucks a month for the net. And lots more may not be able to soon.
Still just feels like summer vaca to me! I’ll feel it when my friends go back to work… But let me assure you, it ain’t hard.
Repelled a dog? Man.. i hope you got photos.
I go walking in the neighborhood with my dog Jackie. She sniffs a lot because she’s a beagle. Some visitor to a neighbor always jokes that he’s gonna take her hunting. “There’s my rabbit dog!”
He even asked if I’d let him take her. I told him I wouldn’t let him house-sit a potted plant, much less take my dog!
America: We’ll fee you to friggin death, but your taxes will be really low.
That spike in gas prices.. there’s the bonus money right there.
These criminals just tax us for profits when they can’t just hold up the fed for a bailout.
hello margot!
The Bailout Nation is an interesting read.
I used to rabbit hunt with beagles.. they love it.
Sure is! Some how some way this kind of manipulation of OUR economy so they can line their coffers has to be ended. I think it won’t happen until we get the big money bags out of Our elections… Check out http://www.youstreet.org where you can learn how you can make a difference even if it is just a bit but if all help out we Can get our government back.
Hi All,
On my way to bed, I have to share this from BobSchact’s Seminal diary about Obama’s departure speech in Ghana: http://seminal.firedoglake.com/diary/6286
Emphasis mine.
So Ghanans are supposed to hold their leaders accountable, while Americans look forward and not back.
Hi Margot. I had a harness so I would not pressure his neck…that made reppelling cake…he grinned all the way down the face of the cliff. We had a tick picking party from all the brush when we got home.
A real discussion of free speech would be good. My Rants tend tend to get me off my own topic:) Still people are dead the Right keeps lying more people innocents will die.
I got side tracked from the legal issues with how much this means to me.
Saw a baby bunny on my hike today very cte and gone in a flash. And an awesome Great White Egret flew out of the wild grass as I came off of the trail to the housing…and some pretty nifty butterfly.
She flushes rabbits out from under the shed every time she goes into the back yard. Chases them happily and comes back inside.
Rahm would say that the President fears that Americans would hit their heads on stuff if we quit paying attention to what is right in front of us. And I would be touched. Ghanans, not so much.
I’m looking at att for $60 w/2 yr contract, $80 without. Well over $150 more for the card w/out contract.
Yikes I get 5 mb speed for $35 a month with DSL no limits on how much… Although I just had them rewire things twice once for the speed and then to to fix my fax connection they screwed up the first time… But at least now I get what I am paying for!!
Well Boston Legal is ending so I bid ya all good night!!
I am my own beagle these days. /s Not to hard since my yard is filled with dancing rabbits. My favorite bird this summer is the green heron. I’ve been watching a pair for a couple months. Beautiful.
Sunny.. sounds awfully close. With a $100 rebate I only have to pay 20.00 for the card. And i signed a contract. Can change my mind within 14 days.. and i will if I can’t improve this situation. But i think I will be able to with an antenna. Just not sure which kind I need since I am way out in the peaceful valley.
I’ve asked around on blogs throughout AR.. and scores of people from all over have taken speed tests. Nobody with DSL out here ever gets over 1200 kps. Usually it’s half that. Sure is a sweet price you get too.
Yup, me too.
Good night firedogs
time to head out. nite es, nite pups
I’m in a tough location. Near a physical & political boundary affecting my options. Fortunately, I can deal w/att through a co-op I trust.
But I hate making a contract, though it does (presumably) guarantee price and unlimited service for the term. Co-op says it would be nutz not to go with the contract, since termination penalty isn’t that high – relatively.
good luck with that Sunny… I would go crazy without high speed connection… I used to tell my clients if they had only dial-up I Must bring their PCs to my place to work on them..Other wise it would drive up the cost of repairing them as I would have to spend a lot of time waiting while things downloaded… time = money!! they always let me take the PC with me!!
