The long-awaited report of the CIA’s inspector general on the Bush Administration’s warrantless domestic surveillance program was released last hour. It reveals that what it calls “The President’s Surveillance Program” (as opposed to the public name: “The Terrorist Surveillance Program”) started in late 2001 and went far beyond wiretaps without obtaining a court order.
That will hardly be the only big story to come out of today’s release. How do I know? Marcy has a working thread up at emptywheel. . . .

Halfway through the report and it has drama and suspense. John Yoo has a lot to answer for. So do some others. Comey should probably get a Profile in Courage Award. What were those Other Intelligene Programs that were of questionable legality? Are they still going on?
Unfortunately, I believe those are still “classified” so we have no idea what was going on still, nor if it is STILL going on… Something tells me we’re going to be sifting through more and more detritus like this from the Bush years for decades to come, and only much later learning the “big” picture of what all happened. (if we ever do).
offtopic sidenote: I like the new formatting of the site. Improves readability IMHO.
No you won’t… because they are fully intent on being back in power again by then.
Thanks for the post Gregg! I’m going to Marcy’s blog now. If there’s anyone who has not contributed to the fundraising effort for her (see the graphic on your right ), I encourage you to do so.
My prediction: This will be the “hoovering up every single electronic communication passing through U.S. telecom servers” program.
My prediction, I won’t be able to get onto emptywheel’s page until later tonight from all the traffic.
