Representative Steve King (R-Iowa) is among the least intelligent and most obnoxious members of Congress. Yesterday he cast the sole and only vote in the House refusing to recognize the efforts of slaves in the 18th and 19th century to to build, ironically, the U.S. Capitol Building. But that is hardly the only bigoted act King ever took, just the latest.
He’s now been joined by known television genius Fox & Friends, Brian Kilmeade:
"We are — we keep marrying other species and other ethnics and other … See, the problem is the Swedes have pure genes. Because they marry other Swedes …. Fins marry other Fins, so they have a pure society."
I’m not sure even Rick Santorum could translate that. Diatribes about marrying other ethnicities and "species" (SPECIES?!) is now considered proper discourse at FoxNews. While Single-Payer health coverage is a subject worth of vile ridicule — even though the Swedes have it.

The good ship Goop is becalmed, and it’s become a floating psycho ward. Cabin Fever!
Whoa, bold new look here!
The lake looks different
Looks to me like it’s not done yet.
Glad to see I’m not the only one. I was wondering if I had browser problems. They’re probably working on bringing in the new group Jane posted about the other day. Off to the NYT…
It looks really cool in Safari on the Mac. Firefox is not displaying the banner. Aha, there it is, refresh.
HI Mods. Page is all over the place with Mac/Safari. Looks fine on Mac/Firefox.
Obama is done.
Morin Joe
I see that my MAc/Safari is wonky. You on firefox/Mac wonky. definitely needs cross browser attention.
Try refreshing on FF. Mine looks right now.
Good morning, pups. It’s Collins, Kristof and Cohen today. Ms. Collins, in “Michael, A Foreign Affair,” says that while America mourned and the media circled, the House Foreign Affairs Committee was weighing in on a 1,500-word resolution in Michael Jackson’s honor. Puhleeze… Mr. Kristof, in “Would You Let This Girl Drown?” asks why we’re so willing to try to assist a stranger before us, yet so unwilling to send donations to save strangers from malaria half a world away. Mr. Cohen has a question about “Roger Federer Unbuttoned:” Is this tennis God part of a Matrix-like artificial reality or is he flesh and blood?
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got waffles with maple syrup today. The cold drinks are in the fridge for later, although it looks like we’re in for more rain. I feel the need for more tea. Have a great day.
All now browers now working.
I’m PC/FF, and after the latest refresh it looks fine. I must have gotten here just at the last moment it wasn’t showing up in FF.
“House Foreign Affairs Committee was weighing in on a 1,500-word resolution in Michael Jackson’s honor”.
I think a 535 Congress person group crotch grab would be more appropriate.
Change is good. Comfy heft, good balance, sharp as ever. I can use this.
Do you think there’s any chance that it’s safe for me to look at the news? Or is it still All Jackson All The Time? In other news, Generalissimo Francisco Franco continues dead…
The news almost makes me pine for Britney’s panties.
LOVE THE NEW LOOK! Do not change it! THIS. IS. THE. ONE. Gorgeous. :-)
Good morning all and thanks for the post, Attaturk.
Marrying other species? Is he, Kilmeade, refering to the fact that in spite of HIS planet of origin he was able to marry an earth person?
Naked racism on fox. Who’da thought.
Still not rendering properly on Safari/Mac. Should be ad displayed
between “read more” and first comments…. possibly line 129 according to source.
I have an ad there. Using ME.
Why is it every time I see Steve King I think, “definitely….sex with animals! Uh ha.”? He just gives off that vibe! Maybe this is why he points at everyone else all the time. Hey, could be.
It would be irresponsible not to speculate…
This could be the problem as there are no quotation marks on height, width etc. This is problematic on Safari (must be very specific) LIne 129 on script.
LOL Why yes it would, Marion! :-)
Why am I not surprised to learn that the stimulus is being spent stupid?
Michael Moore’s new movie is “Capitalism”.
Must be because little states like Maine are getting the money. I’ve never seen this much road construction in my state in over 8 years! Seriously. Our roads have taken a beating for years and now when I go to work each morning, there is road construction being done! It’s nice to see.
Wish the same could be said for Michigan. Roads are miserable thanks to a former Republican governor who was indifferent to infrastructure. The jobs would be nice as well. If anyone wants to see good infrastructure I suggest western Europe and Scandanavia.
Mornin’, gang -
Wrt the individuals mentioned in the post and nomolos comment @ 14, a recent quote from Doghouse Riley seems appropriate to the moment:
Doghouse Riley – 7-7-09
I saw weirdness too in Safari when I first signed on. I quit safari, re-launched it, cleared safari’s cache, and everything fell in to place.
In his statement on why he was voting against the house resolution recognizing that enslaved African Americans had played a key role building the Capitol building, King writes: “Christian abolitionists gave their lives by the hundreds of thousands to end slavery.”
At first I couldn’t guess what he might be talking about, but then I realized he has reclassified every northern soldier in the Civil War as a Christian abolitionist… Historical revisionism, anyone?
Exactly. This is why there were bridges collapsing under the Bush Regime here in America. Our nation was starved for 8 years while George & Dickey had their fun in nation-building in Iraq.
It’s not that small states are getting it, it’s that where the money is going it’s being spent for the most part away from population centers where, you know, people are and jobs might be a good thing to have.
It has no relation to stimulus money because the project was started several years ago (after decades of talk) but sewer is finally coming to the island……hope I live long enough to use it. :-(
In talking with a member of the crew that is digging up the roadside behind my house yesterday, I was pleased to learn that supposedly all of that batch of workers are local; the one living furtherest away being about 70 miles up the road. Unfortunately, we are also being overrun with outlanders coming in to dig the lines that run to individual houses…….I’ll be dealing with a local….and I know where he lives. *G* Grace of dog that the hook-on line is running to the side of the house where the current septic tank is as opposed to crossing the drive-way or some other gawd-awful location that would jack up the price/foot of line costs considerably.
Formatting wonky with missing banner in Chrome, looks slick in IE8 (but I only use IE at home when absolutely necessary)
As for the Republican nut job – he couldn’t help express himself after misplacing his dog whistle last week.
There’s no easy answer in fixing the mess, Marion. The way I see it is….any job saved or one created is better than no job saved and one lost. I’m assuming the states know where to spend their money and if they’re spending it unwisely than they only have themselves to blame. We’re a small enough state that we can keep our politicians in check (well, except for Susan Collins who has her own Mafia on the ground complete with AK-47s…kidding but not far off).
Back to King, one of the TPM commenters nailed it
Years ago there was a group in the House of Reps called, “30-Something Democrats” where they would use the evenings to state their grievances for the public. One late evening when they were denigrating the Bush Regime, Steve King came into the chamber and walked up to the podium like he had a crowbar up his ass to interrupt their speeches, because King didn’t like what they were saying about his Fuhrer. I whipped off an email to the 30-Something Democrats stating in the re: field, “Steve King is an asshole” and then on the inside of the email I mentioned the crowbar and where it was placed. A few minutes later I could see Meeks, Debbie Wasser Schultz laughing. I hope they were in agreement with me! LOL I’m sure they were. ;-)
Try clearing your browser’s cache. That fixed it for me in Safari.
Swim is upstairs…
It’s a CSS faux pas. Not to be confu-sed with Faux Noos. Single-payer in Sweden is merely a strong indicator of rampant inbreeding. And to think, election outcomes turn on Iowa caucuses.
This Iowan ain’t as worried by Stevie (embarrassed, but that’s another story)as by the thousands of Iowans who agree with him or see him as harmless. There are days when “Kill’em all and let Dog sort’em out.” seems reasonable.
Remember those little evenings well. *g*
o’reilly said something pretty racist yesterday on Jackson, saying he doesn’t understand why blacks consider Jackson one of their own when he bleached his skin color and has white kids. I don’t get the rethugs – they claim that they oppose policies that incentivize greater equality because those programs set african-americans apart and undermine assimilation into the American melting pot, and then they turn right around and endorse racial supremacy.
Just what do you have to say before congress will Censor much less Expel you for embarrassing the institution?
Why is not apologizing for an institution that was a world wide practice and ended in the U.S. over 200 years ago considered racist? FYI, the next step after issuing a formal apology (for something that none of us had anything to do with) is financial reparations. How much do you think we should pay? While we’re at it lets apologize to the Irish, Chinese, Jews and anyone else I left out.
