On August 8, 1974 we streamed into Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City, NJ as the gates opened. We sprinted across the infield to get as close to the stage as we could for the Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young concert now just a couple hours away. We made it to 2nd base.

We partied unti lwe saw the foursome running up the stage steps, almopst giddy. We figured this show might be special, but we knew it would be memorable when Graham Nash screamed into the microphone, “Nixon has resigned!”

The ancient stadium shook and crescendoed as people exalted in the knowledge we had played a big part in real democracy and were so proud of our country.

It got so rowdy that night that CSNY had to leave the stage twice as the crowd surged forward. But they played for four hours and did 5 encores. It was sublime.

They didn’t want to leave either.

Evening Nahant. Check out the prior thread for potato – it’s a hoot.

We saw lots of eagles on the river, bald ones and golden ones and my fave, the osprey diving into the river for fish. I can see why you love it there.

got balds and a wide variety of birds – on the bay and at the feeder. cranes, egrets, geese, pelicans, finches, barn swallows, stellar jays just to name a few.

aw shucks, no can do: I’ll be on a short backpacking trip.

We even saw a bear, the first one I’ve ever seen in the wild, although I saw bears almost every day in my yard in Monrovia, for 12 years.

yikes! coming home always has its down side but a dead battery is beyond the pale.

the day i moved in i drove in by way of cape lookout. saw a black bear yearling, sitting on the side of the road waiting for me to pass before crossing. i figured it was a good omen.
