Houston we have a problem (at FDL).

Here’s the change we can believe in bit:

They also reaffirmed a pledge to cut emissions of greenhouse gases that cause warming — by 50% worldwide and by 80% among industrialized nations — by 2050. They hedged, however, on when to set the starting point to measure those cuts, saying they would measure from 1990 “or later years.”

And they didn’t adopt anything committing to specific emission cuts by 2020, a top goal of environmentalists.

Moreover, they acknowledged that their draft declaration for a larger meeting today, when China, India and other developing nations join, will not include targets for emissions cuts.

Hitler had financial backing of industrialists poised to make fortunes from the German rearmamemt. Hitler’s race baiting served as a useful mechanism for terrorizing the German populace, thereby eliminating any opposition to the industrialists’ war aims.

Kilmeade is just an inmature punk.

I guess I have to open FDL in Windoze, ‘cuz all I see is slop. It’s a major mess from the point of view of the Mac OS platform (and firefox 3.x).

Did you clear your browser’s cache?

Mac OS here, Safari and FF – a simple browser cache clearing fixed everything.

Anent 11 & 12: I haven’t tried those things. Thanks for the suggestions. However I just reloaded the page and the new style people here are remarking upon emerged. It needs a bit of tweaking where objects are flush against each other rather than having small margins (or a bit of padding) around them. But overall, a more elegant look. Nice goin’!

China and India are focused on rapid industrial expansion and don’t want to be hindered by petty environmental concerns.

Problem is, the token reductions by Europe and the US to reduce emissions will be overwhelmed by what happens in India and China.

The key to planet survival is to get India and China to understand the consequences of rapid growth based on fossil fuel consumption.

Yep, cache emptying does the trick. Safari 10.4.11

I usually don’t listen to Bill Press as I find him way to cheeky for my taste but I flipped over there this morning and heard an interview with Donna Edwards. She stated she was a “single payer” person but would insist on a strong public option ala Medicare for all. Has she specifically stated why she won’t take the Whip pledge? Seems rather incongruous of her given what she said today.

The thing is, the draft language submitted by the western parties hardly sets an example. Moreover we know president Obama is committed to continued reliance on unclean coal and the destructive mining practices begun in earnest under his predecessor that in itself has to have a negative impact on ecosystems affecting warming.

A recipe for disaster. The tragedy is that although the US currently is and will continue to be the primary contributor to planet degradation, the initial ecosystem impacts are felt elsewhere. Although changes to the flora and fauna are imperceptible in Oklahoma, they are already dramatic elsewhere.

Re: Mission Accomplished, part II – Afghanistan. Obama did claim during the campaign that he would enlarge the theater there. Who were his financial backers who pushed this line? What corporations are garnering windfall profits from the escalation there?

Afghanistan is a non-domino Vietnam.

The PATC president had a column in their latest newsletter about the Great Eastern Desert, laying out a case of such an eventuality as a result of too few predators and too little diversity owing to disturbances of the man-made sort. The example was deer over-population.

However, it comes down to the remarkable capacity of humans to populate mother earth.

Keep your hands tightly on your wallets, for anytime the Masters of The Universe gather together in some swank retreat as they are now in Sun Valley, Idaho you can rest assured it’s not for the purpose of promoting single payer healthcare.

No, it’s typically gatherings like these where they exchange the next great ideas for fleecing you and I, the unsuspecting public, as some CNBC anchor waits breathlessly outside the proceedings just in case one of the MOTU decides to come down from on high and share some pearl of wisdom gleaned from the meetings held between these brilliant people.

Be afraid, very afraid.

Kilmeade seems to think same sex marriage is marrying other species so in his mind gays are non human. Sheesh.
I wonder what Kilmeade would say about very insular sects who have higher rates of certain physical and mental birth defects due to the parents being too closely related carrying the same genes. Monarchy family lines had some of the same problems. He’s probably never heard of this.

Closer to home are the DuPont family in Delaware, and the Amish sect in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and elsewhere. Both groups have histories of high rates of congenital abnormalities because of close intermarrying.
