Actually you have a point there. My experience making campaign calls : people over the age of 50 are the easiest to talk to about politics. My experience calling below 35– they often tell you they got things to do places to go, or mom says they’re sleeping. Of course that’s general.

It concerns me in the sense that the current people who post diaries will still be able to do that. Alot of people who write diaries are not front pagers and never will be. It doesn’t make their diary any less interesting or informative. I would be upset if that were taken away and replaced by “professional writiers” only.

My initial reaction is both emotional and intellectual. (Scuse me for not having read the background as I login in the morning & then again after sunset.) On the emotional front, it is about finding people of like thought (not too many in my offline acquaintances), so that I don’t feel like I’m the only one who thinks like I do. That is very precious, and I’d suffer greatly if I lose it.

On the intellectual front the potential problem is greater. I remember myself in my 20s, not as much knowlege or perspective. I really appreciate the reading and life experiences of those here who either agree or disagree with me, but who can add or counter to my comments with depth. Really don’t want that to be diluted.

Yeah, publishing could be worse. At least, while I was there, Wall St. mergers occurred in a period of generally rising (with occassional bottomless drops) profits, unreal as they were. Publishing OTOH has been a declining industry. Always good to be reminded. And an illustration of the value of life experience in judging current events.
