But on Monday, Sanford went himself one better. In an interview with the AP, he admitted to inappropriate relationships with other women, he spoke of his ability to compartmentalize, and also laid out more with regard to his girlfriend. When asked if Chapur knew he was coming down to Argentina on his most recent trip, he said ". . . she knew I was coming. Didn’t believe I was coming, but I got down on one knee and said I am here in the hope that we can prove this whole thing to be a mirage."
Surely, I said to myself, nothing could top this.
Yesterday, of course, Sarah Palin proved me wrong.
The video is stunning, but lingering over the transcript of her remarks makes it obvious that she has left Sanford in the dust.
So to serve the state is a humbling responsibility, because I know in my soul that Alaska is of such import, for America’s security, in our very volatile world. And you know me by now, I promised even four years ago to show MY independence… no more conventional “politics as usual”.
So she quits.
How’s that for unconventional politics? But don’t answer yet — it’s the way she quits that is so stunning.
If I have learned one thing: LIFE is about choices!
(Unless, of course, she’s talking about choices made by women and their doctors with regard to reproductive decisions. She doesn’t like that kind of choice. But I digress . . .)
Tell us, Sarah — tell us about your choices!
And one chooses how to react to circumstances. You can choose to engage in things that tear down, or build up. I choose to work very hard on a path for fruitfulness and productivity. I choose NOT to tear down and waste precious time; but to build UP this state and our country, and her industrious, generous, patriotic, free people!
Life is too short to compromise time and resources… it may be tempting and more comfortable to just keep your head down, plod along, and appease those who demand: "Sit down and shut up", but that’s the worthless, easy path; that’s a quitter’s way out. And a problem in our country today is apathy. It would be apathetic to just hunker down and “go with the flow”.
Nah, only dead fish "go with the flow".

I choose, for my State and my family, more "freedom" to progress, all the way around… so that Alaska may progress… I will not seek re-election as Governor.
And so as I thought about this announcement that I wouldn’t run for re-election and what it means for Alaska, I thought about how much fun some governors have as lame ducks… travel around the state, to the Lower 48 (maybe), overseas on international trade – as so many politicians do. And then I thought – that’s what’s wrong – many just accept that lame duck status, hit the road, draw the paycheck, and “milk it”. I’m not putting Alaska through that – I promised efficiencies and effectiveness! ? That’s not how I am wired. I am not wired to operate under the same old “politics as usual.” I promised that four years ago – and I meant it.
It’s not what is best for Alaska.
I am determined to take the right path for Alaska even though it is unconventional and not so comfortable.
So let me get this straight.
- She quit, because she wouldn’t be able to resist all the fun of being a lame duck.
- She quit, because her absence from the governor’s office is what’s best for Alaska.
- She quit, because it’s the mavericky thing to do.

There are so many wonderful options in such a saga. The family looks and drools, wondering where they really do have to go to find a moose for next winter.

Her brother in law was already working with the feds and has 10 or more juicy influence peddling rackets that her family were working. The blackmailing of John “maver(little)ricky” McCain for something he once did to Toobz.
The twooth is going to be the funniest part. You can’t make an idiot read that kind of speech from a teleprompter. The camera person had to let go of the camera and make sure they were know where near a microphone because they heard all the family noises before going live with the recording and were laughing too hard to keep the video steady.
I can’t find the vegas line on what’s going on, but I think I will put money on everyone in Alaska politics, GOP or secessionist political approach being wrapped. The feds were tapping everyone from Stevens down for years now. They have him, Murkowski, Young, Palin and their entourage’s doing what comes naturally to them. No one could make that warcow do anything unless by threat of death, and that’s the bet.
Is Mercury in retrograde or somethink? Palin, Sanford, Weymouth – all did the Humpty Dumpty in the same week. Japandrew, you are right – it is surreal. And very entertaining in a look-how-the-self-righteous-have-fallen-kinda way.

Palin’s trying to get out in front of something. Whether it’s Lisa Murkowski in the 2010 AK senate race, the shrinking field of GOP presidential hopefuls, or some prosecutor with an indictment is anyone’s guess.
As for the title, a “teaser” just seemed appropriate, given the subject.

Sanford flies seven thousand miles to spend a week with a longtime mistress in hopes they can persuade each other not to go to bed one last time, but to persuade each other they’re not lovers?
How much more could a man say that would persuade his wife to divorce him, instead of requiring him to make a decision? This man is whipped. He wants out and will tolerate any amount of public abuse (in lieu of private decision-making) to get there. South Carolinians, the GOP and America were spared having to consider this man for high office.
As for Ms. Palin, she is not a giver upper; she’s too narcissistic. She’s not a sacrificerer for others’ interests. She’s too narcissistic. If she quit, the stakes or alternative lucre from elsewhere were too high to stay. But rarely in public office is a carrot wielded without a stick.
Sarah is not sellable enough in the lower 48 to run for national office without a gig, just as anyone finds it harder to get a job without already having one. That was part of the equation. So the stakes or lucre must be mighty.

That’s right. Representatives of the richest Californians would rather their state go down in flames than pay a dime more in tax, even though they benefit disproportionately from a better run government. I’d call it the Rancho Santa Fe Syndrome. They just want to close the gates and water their lawns and brokerage accounts.
And Sarah Palin, if she remained as governor, would have a gun held to her head to force her to travel all over the state, the lower 48 and on international trade missions.
