Watch Mike Judge’s “Idiocracy” You will have a pretty good idea. Remember, High School graduation for many is simply “functional illiteracy” Since they can’t leave anyone “behind” they graduate the illiterate to prove how good the system is. “People Magazine” is written for 7th grade reader levels. (according to a journalism instructor I know) Think about USA Today or the AP. No need to mention facts to clutter up the daily function of the clinically depressed.

The funniest part about Sarah Palin is her ability to not see the irony in the things she says. At her presser she put down those who are quitters and then proceeded to quit her job as Governor. Then on the campaign trail last year, she pointed at Obama said he palled around with terrorists, is unethical, never showed up to work when it counts, and other crap, but it turns out, she’s all those things and more!

Sarah started so many fires in her kitchen, she had to get out. Now the big shoe is about to drop and she had the audacity to tweet yesterday that the media is so mean to her after many of us laughed at her rambling press conference!

I hope she gets some help for her psychosis. She needs to.

Sarah said this perfectly mindless fundy claptrap

“William Seward, providentially saw in this great land, vast riches, beauty, strategic placement on the globe, and opportunity. …We’re strategic IN the world as the air crossroads OF the world, as a gatekeeper of the continent.”

So Seward predicted the polar route in air travel ? I thought he was mainly interested in the fur-trade and perhaps having a few portage stops from Asia. Just a few years before the US was hollerin’ “48-40 or fight” so having this huge tract of Pacific shoreline without a war with the Brits made good sense. Plus he was getting it on the cheap.

” Bold visionaries knew this - Alaska would be part of America’s great destiny. Our destiny to be reached by responsibly developing our natural resources. This land, blessed with clean air, water, wildlife, minerals, AND oil and gas. It’s energy! God gave us energy.”

Yep Dear old Seward was visited by the Archangel Moroni and told “You must purchase Alaska from the Russians because someday they’ll be Commies rather than a Russian Orthodox monarchy. And God hAs put in deposits of ancient putrifying swamp vegetation and decaying microscopic sea critters some 240 million years ago just waiting for the day when a Ms. Sarah Palin will appear to fully exploit them. Makes you wonder how she explains all that oil and gas in those Muslim countries. GOD REALLY MUST LOVE THEM.

And it’s pretty clear her attitude toward wildlife is to alter the natural balance if it is “fun” and brings her a fur.

“God gave us baby wolves…and helicopters to shoot them from.”

I’m happy now reading stuff I want to read in any subject but I do respect those who have decided to get a PhD work deserves respect. Bush getting a Harvard MBA pisses me off cause I doubt it was earned with work.

Doing a PhD requires three things:

1. An ability in the field.
2. An ability to get along with people.
3. Perserverence.

I suspect, but haven’t been able to show, that there are minimum levels of each character required. I am certain, because I’ve observed it over my career, that the characteristics can compensate for each other to some degree.

If you have the minimal level of ability in the field, you’d better been an expert at getting along and getting things done. If you are a real genius at the field, advisors and peers will overlook a lot of personality quirks, and perservence isn’t so important if it’s all easy.

A conservative who described himself as a paleocon once told me that he thought all liberals wanted everyone to drive Yugos and eat tofu. I told him I’d heard of Yugos, didn’t think much of them; had heard of tofu but never ate any. “Well you’re different.” ? lol
