How are you feeling today bb?
Twin Towers
Good evening
Good.. feels like the 2 antibiotics are doing the job. Eliminated caffiene to have some extra slack. How about you? Are you hanging in there?
Good evening back ay ya. Had a little hike today at Monana de Oro State Park while it is still free.
We were thirteen dollars in the hole. A Marin client called today and needs a site done asap. I am going to Marin on Tuesday to work on it and stay with my daughter. Tonight I am a happy camper. Thanks for asking.
I love thinking about you living in Los Osos. It was my most favorite place to live so far.
Hey, ES, Mary McC and BB.
Glad you’re feeling better, BB. So…Montana de Oro is finally getting a user fee, huh? At least they held it off a few years longer than the rest of the state park system.

(from Suzanne’s house…SLUMBER PARTY!!!)
My list of what I never want to see or hear again is growing…..
1. Michael Jackson
2. Mark Sanford
3. Sara Palin – has hit my max tolerance
4. Lies about other countries health care system without any facts and intimate knowledge.
The Les abides. It’s an instant classic.
Wow! Slumber party! With big poofy house shoes?
Booyah! I’m with you 1000 percent katymine!
and big pink rollers in their hair.
Slumber party? Hey you two, BEHAVE! And I will, too.
Heh… it really is. Gawd what timing too.
“…can’t afford Snap-On” LOLZ!
Happy Independence Day, folks. Here’s Martin Simpson with The Green Fields of America.
Hi Lish, long time no see!
ES and everyone, hugs.
Is there a doctor in the house?
I like your list, katy.
Better. Chocolate cake and HGTV!
FWDiva
In re #4-Have never really been a fan of Ed Schultz, but I love his road trip idea. Wants to take Sam Stein and a thug talker up to Canada and talk about their health care system with people who actually are part of the Health care system.
When I have to refute lies about the US and Canadian system on my kidney cancer listsert email exchange you know it made me hit the wall….
Some faux idiot starts that Canadians have to drive hours and hours for appointments and wait for services to get approved……. my comment was “your point?” ….. ever lived in the small towns in AZ,, NV, UT OR MT. Thankfully my Canadian sisters who are surviving kidney cancer let him have it too plus the ladies from the UK….
I have a master’s degree…of science!
FWDiva
Hey Margot,
It was so gray and sad today, that I could NOT believe it was the Fourth of July weekend.
Happy Indy day, Mr Why.. I forget the name of the fellow, but that was a good youtube you dropped off a couple nights back. Thanks!
Ed has lived just a few miles from the Canadian border most of his life so he knows that everything said is a bunch of crap……
I’m sorry, the doctor is tied up with the pharmaceutical reps. We will have to reschedule you for next month. The bill’s in the mail.
Orange juice cans. And calling the request line at the local radio station. This was one the DJ (years ago) got real tired of playing, I know because he told me.;)
By The Gentrys
The “bad” girls used to wear their rollers to the drive in. When did they actually take them out?
It was kind of gray, wasn’t it? Made me very drowsy.
FD,
If I can arrange an assistantship and/or fellowship, will you go get the d***ed PhD?
present. but it’s a juris doctorate degree, so it doesn’t count for a whole heck of a lot.
heya ES! been a while since I was up this late.
I’m gonna throw something out – sorry if my tastes are a bit pedestrian.

da Boss, with my own comment three down….
I remember a July 4th in Oregon where we went to Fort Vancouver WA in our winter coats, blankets and a tarp to keep the damp away…… tomorrow will be around 100 degrees here…..
Hi margot, Lish, emerson and whoever else sneaked in while i got a cold beer…)
Wow. That’s quicker than usual.
I have so many memories of the “Fourth” at Rehobeth and Lewes beaches. It is hard to leave them.
I just don’t like being lonely.
So, did Kim Jong-Il shoot off his Type-0 dong today?
Never apologize.. just throw it out there.
Good to see you jayt.
unless you count my Doctor of Inane Letters (shamelessly stolen from Hunter S. Thompson).
Amazing how often I get away with that one….
Apologies just egg on the Medical Deities. doG knows that’s the last thing most of them need.
GAH! NOOOOOOOOO!
Not in Immunology anyway. Brrrrr. Bad memories.
Thanks for the thought, though.
FWDiva
That is a sensible response, FD.
One year I went to the fireworks display in Michigan while visiting my grandmother…… we both laid along the hood and windshield watching it all.. It was just her and I and it probably one of the few that I remember. Of course there is the one at Oaks Park on the Willamette River (OR) where they started the show and one arched back and hit the fireworks hut, it exploited and the grass fire ran up the bank of the river.
It was hard keeping all my kids rounded up in the stampede to get away from the fire….
I remember a july 4th in Portland where we roasted our weenies in the fireplace because it was pouring rain.
FWDiva
LOL, man. You’re a bit of a stinker, eh?!
FWDiva
just throw it out there.
well, ok.
I adore the little smile Dolores throws just before she turns around and screams “ZOM-BEE!!”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZJHZLFCwjE
katy – no fireworks at ft vancouver this year – they are all headed across the river into pdx. oy
Happy Independence Day !
America’s honor requires the great work of true patriots like you and it is an honor to know you all
Love & Hugs,
P.
In Topeka around 1985, they were about to get the show started and something happened among the mortars. There were all sorts of things blowing up right at ground level.
That was the end of that year’s fireworks spectacular. Fortunately no one killed or seriously injured that I recall.
Didn’t you recently ask me about Turpentine Creek Cat refuge? Turns outi have several friends who are friends with the owners out there. And i just discovered it’s where the big ES fireworks show will be tomorrow night. Am wondering how the cats will respond to that!
Broke wrist on Saturday…the bone doc i was asked to contact is out of the country Friday office closed for long weekend. In the medical world it is who you know. Vets were good giving me a referral back to ER. I now have the right meds as of yesterday. One week late and two infections.
Thank you Petrocelli… and happy day to you..)

A good mind is a terrible thing to waste.Science may bail out the planet if greed can be contained.
Just call me Mephistopheles…
Actually, I probably could get something lined up here, but not in immunology. I have several contacts in our MolBiol program and they’re always looking for good candidates. The thing about doing doctorates generally is that they are a dead economic loss if you’re already gainfully employed. If you factor in the time and the opportunity costs, the numbers don’t add up.
The only reason to do one is because you have to. I had to in order to find out if I could do it. Other people have to because they need the Union card to teach at the university level.
can’t remember if tomorrow will be an early wake up or I can sleep in….. my neighbors dog barks at my yard sprinklers….. they go off at 5am…..
saw a travel show about Paris…… it made me homesick…. a lot of the places Elmore and I toured…. shopping on Rue Cler and even showed our hotel. the guide said….. you can never say goodbye to Paris…… and after Crete….. I can’t…..
Not that I recall… I cannot imagine that a fireworks show nearby is good in anyway for a cat refuge.
Whatever happened to the Cranberries, are they still together?
Out of the country? Wow.
Did they check the infection to make sure it’s susceptible to the antibiotics? There are a lot of nasty S. aureus strains floating around now.
Oh! Please find out — I love them!
When I worked downtown, one of my co-workers husband was the super for the Koin tower….. we used to go up to the utility balcony to watch the fireworks…. in those days we could see both the Portland and Vancouver shows
not positive, but i don’t think so. Seems like I’ve seen some stuff from dolores somewhere, all on her own….
Getting a PhD is sometimes the waste of a perfectly good mind.
The process of getting a doctorate involves learning more and more about less and less. In the end, you know absolutely everything about almost nothing. And for most of us, the almost nothing that we know everything about is cared about by twelve other people on the planet.
Hey! I gots my master’s degree. I’m only going to waste because there’s no !@#$!@#$ jobs! And a PhD would only make it worse. Been there, done that in ‘97.
And if TPTB ever start caring to bail out the planet, they’ll have to start compensating us science types a bit more appropriately.

Good question no swabs taken. You would think they would when the Ver Doc sent me back…medical liability anyone?
Hiya, pups!
Not much happening in Alaska today. What’s going on?
Active myspace page, but no tour listed.
not going to stop encouraging my baby boy from getting his PhD in Biology as he wants to go into research…… should graduate with BS in Dec, working on an internship so that tuition is less. He has not said but wonder if his mother’s cancer has anything to with it?

Hey ET, we are all thinking of you.
You do have a boring life, don’t you? Bless your heart. /s
been wondering if you would be able to squeeze in the annual fishing trip?
Thanks. Can’t wait until the nutty jogger is one, so we can get back to real life.

Annual? We do daily here. come on aboard.
ok….heading out….. it just might be an early morning dog barking…… can’t complain too much as this is one of my support system who gives me rides to appointments and was my doggy day care for years…….
The trip
Careful what you say, amigo… next season I might just be there. *s*
AK has been on my mind all week… and it wasn’t Palin related..)
Oh, I’m not suggesting you should discourage him. We all have to find our own paths. I’m a first generation college graduate and my parents were not very happy campers when I announced that I was going to grad school.
Then my microbiology professor met them at graduation, and he told them it would a tremendous waste if I didn’t continue my education. I have no idea why he said that, honestly I didn’t know that he remembered my existence. But it convinced my parents that this was not a quixotic adventure.
Not much happening in Alaska today. What’s going on?
Y’all must be bored to tears up there today….
If today meets your definition of ‘not much’, I don’t want to be anywhere near you when things get exciting.
Is there any word on which scandal has laid her low?
Gorgeous… yer killin’ me. Keep it up.
Oh, I started with every intention of getting a PhD…enroling for a master’s wasn’t an option in that department.
It wasn’t a good fit. I was my advisor’s 1st grad student, so my project was way too high-risk (good on paper, though!), and 1/2 through my 5th year, he took a position at another institution and I didn’t want to move…and finishing wasn’t going to work either. So, I had a good 8 yr run in Biotech and have gotten crunched in the pre-recession and now the peak-recession.
Oh well…
FWDiva
It’s really strange–all week long I thought, OK, if Sanford’s going to resign he probably will do it this Friday. You could have knocked me over with a breath of air when the Palin news came on.
Good night and have a pleasant Independence Day.
The pay isn’t anywhere near as good as biotech, but have you thought about teaching?
Good night to you, BB.
It’s good to hear they’ve got you on the right antibiotic this time.
Good night, bb. *healing thoughts*
I’m out – have a good evening and tomorrow, all.
The only thing Sara did wrong was not waiting until later in the day. If you want to buy any announcement, you do it at 4:45 on Friday.
Our University adminstration are masters at the Friday Memo Bomb.
Lord I miss Delores O’ Riordan and The Cranberries.
I never had heard of them till I got a cd given to me in ‘97 or so.
To The Faithful Departed. BLEW ME AWAY!!!!
Not a BIG commercial success for them, it still rocks my soul, heart and head.
I LOVE that project, and Delores and the band. Miss them.
And Zombie is kewl, too. But I like all the stuff from Faithful Departed . . *G*
Most likely the questions about how their house was built, or about how Todd collected scores of thousands from Arctic Cat that didn’t make it into his tax returns for sponsorship of his of his Iron Dog snow machine team, or specifics about Bristol’s phone being the one used in Levi’s mom’s oxy bust, or the deals she’s been making to funnel state money to fundamentalist organizations, or weird money involving bringing Exxon in with TCA on AGIA, or ……….
I don’t want to crash the fdl server, so I’ll stop.
Blind Pilot
http://ill-legible.com/2009/05…..hearyacom/
So what you’re saying is that Sara has as many scandals running as Bush fils? Except that apparently she’s going to be called to account?
I’ve been reading Jeff Sharlet’s The Family, a side-effect of l’affaire Sanford. Fundagelicals really are completely strange people.
Not nearly as many scandals as Bush, but she didn’t have much to work with.
A person just reminded me that I commented yesterday at my blog that “The shit is going to start coming down on her so hard, so fast, so soon.”
Things have been coming down so hard, fast and soon today, that I forgot I’d said that yesterday.
We’re sure going to miss the Shrilla from Wasilla …
Yeah, so is SNL and all the funny people around the world who make us laugh at their parodies. *G*
I’ll get over that loss. *G*
Nice.
Their brain works in an entirely different format than the rest of the world.
Hey Larue, this one’s for you:
http://concerts.wolfgangsvault…..ign=090702
As someone else said, nice!
I’m not sure I know of any 4 string banjo’s that three finger roll it, Scruggs style, as part of their play. Sounds kewl without all that tone ring and resonator on the 5’s . . old timey but not clawhammer or frailin.
Nice sound, overall . . . . ‘preciate the hit.
When you work a word really hard like you just worked works you have to pay it extra.
Honestly, I don’t understand how their co-religionists can stand them. They claim the Bible is a moral compass, and yet the Family seem almost completely amoral. I don’t get it.
And the sex stuff is just endlessly amusing. I’d forgotten the bit about Billy Sol Hargis having married a couple of students at his so-called college. Nothing unusual about that, until bedtime rolled around and the couple discovered that the other was not a virgin after all.
And they’d both lost it Rev. Hargis…
Well, good night pups.
I’ve got to get up this morning to do a July Fourth concert. Have a great holiday!
I have to wonder what the next act of Republican seppuku is going to be…. one a week seems to be the going rate
707!
Heysoos, hoss, ya naile me. Got two copies vinyl of Stoneground Family Album.
Sal Valentino lives in Sacto, now. He does some local gigs.
My dobro/music teacher sits in with him on git, dobro and harmony vocals.
Small, small world.
All we’re missing is Laugh Laugh, Cry Just A Little, and a few dead Beau Brummels. *G*
Great hit, thanks so much. Deidre La Porte, Annie Sampson, Sal, and a few others. Stoneground.
They were great.
The Vault cover of Takes A Lot To Laugh is priceless. One of my still fav camp jam tunes with bluegrass instruments. Along with the staple ‘You Ain’t Goin Nowhere’.
I’m now grinnin like a nekkid camper on the Appalachian Trail with an mp3 player and ear buds cranked up loud. Sorta. Only think Sierra Nevada, 1973, and them lil brown mescalines and no mp3. *G* Just voices, round a fire, at 10,500 or so. Right at tree line, on a lake. East of Fresno, Black Cap Basin. Fleming Lake. *G*
Good night BCT
ET! Thanks for all the superb blogging. You’re the Alaska scoop-fest.
Night, BCT.
Hi, Jane! How’s Sweden? What time does the sun go down up there?
FWDiva
hiya ES & Pups!
I was away from Teh Toobz all day and part of the evening … must say it was flummoxing news to find out Failin Palin’s bailin! I’ve been reading posts and threads ever since. ET, you and the rest of the Alaska bloggers rawk.
So, is your new truck tagged and ready to roll?
Big thanks to the mod who’s releasing my comments, sure ‘preciate it.
Wish I could get off the modded list, though . . . Mz Hamsher, lil help? ;-)
don’t forget to check out the other shows of that last week at the Fillmore. The roster is on the right. All of those shows were recorded 38 years ago this week, which still makes us pretty young, right?
NDFG!
How the heck are ya?
FunnyDiva
he.. seattle post-intelligencer is speculating that Ted Stevens may run for governor ;-P

You wakin up a certain workout Teen Queen, are ya? *G*
Goodo on yer walk today!!!!! *G*
Not tagged yet. They were closed today. Though I rolled around a few back roads (to the swimming hole) like an outlaw. Was twice the fun..)
My goodness.. I’ve been wondering about you! Glad to know you are alive stranger…)
Governor from the crypt, maybe.
Heh, yer killin me . . .
Yeah, we’re young. Always.
It came with the times, then and now.
*G*
Great, great stuff . . . I might cycle thru Flamin Groovies and more tonight.
I didn’t see any of the Last Nights, but man, I was there plenty for a few years before. *G*
CTA doin Only The Beginnings, not Chicago. Boz Scaggs (first solo) doin I’ll Be Long Gone. Teenaged heartthrob music with girlfriend melting into me. *G*
Elvin Bishop Band, with the lovely and talented Jo Baker, along with Tower OF Power and Sha Na Na every Thanksgiving.
One night of Elvin Bishop Band, Michael Bloomfield Band, and Paul Butterfield’s Golden Butter (Amos Garrett, Geoff Muldaur).
Two nights of four when The Dead did THE WALL at Winterland. Precious.
Sigh. From ‘65 till ‘72, The Bay Area Rocked, on the raydeo, and in the concert halls and clubs.
It was divine. *G*
What about Don young, would he run for Gov?
“teen queen” reminds me of Carrie Prejean, the fundie ex-miss California. She will turn into the next Sarah Palin won’t she?
Jane,
Warms my heart enormously to hear it from my true hero. Uh, you and Howie. And Marcy. And….
Alaska bloggers, while dealing with all this stuff today, actually found time to talk about your efforts on health care & how to use that model to give Sen. Mark some spine at just the right moment.
Thanks!
Blub, I don’t think so.
I really think that model of GOP is a dying species, and won’t go far anymore.
Their daze are past, thank dawg! ;-)
He’ll be 74. The guy with the best shot at it from the GOP is the new Lt Guv, Maj. Gen, Craig Campbell, head of the AKNG. I suspect Palin will promote him to Field Marshall before she leaves office.
I’ve been trying for almost three years to get him to back legislation mandating all returning AKNG from Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan be thoroughly tested for exposure to DU. Get nowhere with the guy. Typical fucking general.
ET, I’m jumpin into the groug hug here, and thanking you, and those yer thanking, too.
Heck of a town.
“She built this city. She built this city on heart, and soul.”
Kudos, Lady Jane and all . . *G*
Now about that modding thang . . . lol
What time does the sun go down there – August.
Excellent :)
ES-how did it feel to be behind the wheel again?
Would be just like Sara to promote a guy who wouldn’t test her own son (much less other sons and daughters) for DU.
I better turn in before I start head banging the keyboard. /s
Good night firedogs
Liberating… especially on the good old country roads.
nite
g’nite ES
Track is Regular Army, not AKNG. The Army isn’t doing that level of testing either.
hang in there. The mod thing gets modified as time goes by at fdl….

A lot of midsummers, I’ve spent a week or so down at Manzanita, about 35 miles north of you guys, playing in roller hockey tournaments at the park. Miss it, miss Tillamook Bay.
Geebus, Emerson, I forgot about Lynne Hughes!! PASSION FLOWER! One of my fav songs! Forgot it was Lynne. Damn they were good .. *G*
nite es, thanks for the hospitality.
Thanks hoss, that’s special you would mention it.
After all you’ve done for us all . . . I’m humbled. *bows*
YOU PEOPLE ARE AT SUZ’S? PARTYING?
Killin me . . . . don’t piss off Token. ;-)
*waving back at everyone* we’ve been so busy at work that i don’t even have time to lurk on breaks! But it beats the heck out of being unemployed altho it sure crimps my hanging-in-the-threads time.
I’ve been disgusted with politicians caving on health care reform, and glad to see the tremendous work FDL is doing. So i manage to stay a bit informed thanks to leftyblogistan, but being out in the woods today, and NO I WAS NOT NEKKID HIKING, i was totally outta the loop about Alaska’s Froot-Loop.

Heh. I ate at the Lighthouse in Manzanitaville tonight. Came through Kelso and Astoria, then down 101. Couldn’t rubberneck too much since I was driving, but it was just gorgeous. Smelled great. And much cooler than Seattle.
And I got to see the Home of Tillamook Cheeeeese!
They make great dairy products in Tillamook county!
FWDiva
Emerson, now yer into that Wall Of Sound, as opposed to the Dead’s Wall.
Great stuff, hoss! Geez, I hope yer a hoss, if yer a hossette, let me know . .
But I LOVE that old girl group sound from Spector’s Stables!!! *G*
And frankly, other than Laura Nyro, Carole King and Laura are likely the best ever, song writers for their times.
And long after. They influenced songwriting and arranging like Dylan, Woody before him, and well, I’m at a loss to think of others of that magnificence in them times. Paul Simon, and others, were products of it all.
I’d add Richard Farina, and the majestic Mimi Farina, but they are not so well known. But they did their thing and influenced LOTS of people the Newport they beat Mr. Zimmerman up on their performance.
Alas, I digress . . . . Folk Scare To SF Bay Area Rock ‘65, to The Cranberries and Delores O’Riordan. What a ride. *G*
Oh, Token only gets irked when I stop pettin’ him with my non-typing hand. He’s my new BFF.

Nothin but gold on that site, Larue. Bookmark that baby! My bro-in-law is a huge Deadhead. He has more bootleg Dead than anyone I know, but he didn’t have the Fillmore Finales and he freaked!
Also, KQED did a two-hour special on the closing of the Fillmore. I saw it about a month ago and you might find it somewhere on the toobz.
This one’s for FunnyDiva And Suz Stay Outta Jail! *G*
Yes to all, and there’s a DVD out there from KQED’s show. *G*
Not to mention The Last Waltz. *G*
I’m right there with ya on Nyro and King. Some of the best songwriting of all time. “Up on the Roof” is still one of the best songs I’ve ever heard.
Then you gotta get into Holland, Dozier and Holland and the whole Motown songbook, the Tempts and Tops, and so on. Love it all.
you forgot my get outta jail badge in my wallet next to my driver’s license dood
