The GOP’s biggest non-female rock star is all up in my bidness this morning.
Wurzelbacher is scheduled to speak in Conroe, Texas, on July 2, and then he will go to Austin, Texas, at 9 a.m. on July 3 at the Zilker Park Polo Field picnic area.
Austin tea party organizer Judy Holloway told WND she was excited to have 5,000 people with different political perspectives show up at the Tax Day protest.
"It was surprising because Austin is the most liberal city in Texas," she said. "It’s like someone took a city in California and dropped it in the middle of Texas."
Too bad I have a dentist appointment.
Anyone in the 512 who’s got the time and a camera, please go take pictures of these wingnuts and share them with me (event details here).
You know they’ll be some quality crazy.

Took Gigi to the vet yesterday. Extension of her earlier problems with eating. Appears to be neurological. Long story. Hopefully comes home today with a feeding tube. Have to get her weight up so she can be sedated long enough to do series of head x-rays. Lost 1.5 lbs in the last 6 weeks. She’s 15. Kidneys and liver fine or we’d have been at the end of the road. 15 billion dollars needed to rebuild Afghanistan: World Bank

ISLAMABAD, Jan 8 (AFP) – The World Bank has estimated that 15 billion dollars will be needed over the next 10 years for the reconstruction of Afghanistan, a report said Tuesday.
Acting head of the World Bank, Abid Hassan, told a conference in Islamabad Monday that health, agriculture and education sectors were the most important investment areas.
“Afghans will need around one billion to two billion dollars in a year which translates into 10 to 15 billion dollars in the next 10 years for the provision of putting in place basic infrastructure,” Hassan said, quoted by The Nation daily.
Between 100 and 140 million dollars will be needed to build hospitals while 50-100 million dollars will have to be pumped into water supply projects, he said.
The primary education sector will require a 60-80 million dollar injection of funds, while the power sector needs 40-50 million dollars, Hassan added.
However, Antonio Donini, head of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for Afghanistan, said any infrastructure reconstruction would not commence for another three months while an assessment survey was underway.
He also cautioned that the successful implementation of a rebuilding programme depended on the country’s political stability and the security situation.
“The long term process cannot be delinked from issues of governance and political dispensation in Afghanistan,” he was quoted as saying.
A donor’s conference on reconstructing the country torn apart by more than two decades of war is to be held in Japan from January 21-22.
Japan has taken a leading role in international efforts to rebuild the country and in preparation for the talks Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi’s representative for Afghanistan assistance, Sadako Ogata, left Monday for a 10-day trip to Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran.

It is painfully obvious that this Judy character has never been to California. California is a huge state. (Yes, Judy, even bigger than Texas.) Some places are quite right-wing (Fresno, Bakersfield) and some are pretty librul (San Francisco). I have lived near SF for 35 years and have been to Austin as well. I wouldn’t say Austin was a lot more liberal than SF, but Austin is, in effect, a college town. Yes, it is the capital, too, but what is a capital in Texas? About as important as the Texas governor. (Isn’t the legislature only part-time?)
Anyway, SF and LA are quite progressive. And even San Diego is socially liberal, but oh, those fiscal right-wingers ruin a beautiful city!

I’ve never lived in San Fransisco but I have lived in both San Diego and Los Angeles and in my opinion, Austin is much more liberal than LA and much, MUCH more liberal than San Diego. I grew up in Houston and have lived in many places in this country but the only time I was ever gay bashed was in San Diego, in that wonderful “liberal” state of California. San Diegans are nothing short of winger scary.
