After Obama picked up the phone and cleared the field for Kirsten Gillibrand, there’s no other way to interpret this than a direct stab:
Bill Clinton Hosting Event For Maloney
Former President Bill Clinton will headline a July 20 fundraiser for Democratic Rep. Carolyn Maloney, who is challenging Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in next year’s Democratic primary. Clinton has not made an endorsement in the race, but his attendance could be seen as a snub to White House-backed Gillibrand. Clinton also did a fundraising event for Gillibrand after she was appointed to the Senate seat to fill the vacancy left when Clinton’s wife became secretary of State. Maloney has not formally announced her bid for the Senate seat, but an adviser has said she is running.
So far, neither Maloney nor Gillibrand has said they would vote against any health care bill that does not include a strong public plan–unlike Jerrold Nadler, Keith Ellison and Raul Grijalva.
We’ll be watching very closely to see if either Gillibrand or Maloney busts a move and takes "the Pledge."
Gillibrand’s office: (202) 224-4451; Maloney’s office: 202.225.7944

Good ol’ Bubba – still can’t help himself, let alone exercise some self-restraint.
Leopards and spots….
AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Hamsher and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
Now where are the McClinton supporters who got all tangled up in their own shorts when it was suggested that the McClintons were in this thing called politics for the long haul and for themselves and their child…the New York Democratic Party is the incubator for a new Republican Party and you ken bet that when the new friendly corporate Republican Party gets its band together, Mrs. McClinton will be the drum majorette.
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE FUCKIN’ AMMUNITION, AND REMEMBER THAT NOT ALL FASCISTS CALL THEMSELVES REPUBLICANS!!
I don’t know a thing about Maloney, but Gillibrand seems like someone we could do without.
Citizen jayt:
Obama has Gillibrand on a string and she’s already made noises that she’s not completely opposed to gun control…Obama is tryin ta remake the Democratic Party and the Mc Clinton’s are tryin’ ta take over the old one.
I don’t see why you say that. Gillibrand has been great as a senator, and both her and Maloney are monster fundraisers. All a NY primary will do is waste enormous sums of money in an expensive market that could be spent far more efficiently.
Bill Clinton is still pissed at Obama for ruining his plans of getting another term under the guise of Hillary. Bill’s hands are rather tied (because his wife is Secretary of State), and Bill don’t like it. So he’s fighting back. I think Bill doesn’t care about Maloney or Gillibrand personally, but just wants to say to Obama “screw you”.
Gillibrand isn’t going to take the pledge because she’s just another DINO.
Citizen clemensol:
Absolutely correct Citizen clemensol and further, there is a huge realignment goin on in the engorged Democratic Party in New York and the usual suspects that run Chuck the Bookkeeper (the financial securities industry) are tryin’ desparately to regain control from a newly energized base outside NYC.
Norske,
In your view, what is Obama trying to remake the Democratic Party into?
How do i get these e-mails? First te teabaggers… Now I just got one… speaking of Health care…. from somebody signing “Yours in Christ”… “Priced out of healthcare? Try God’s way.” Only $53 a month. Wish i got this yesterday so i could have asked God about it last night while s/he was sitting in for Watertiger. I mean $53/month? Doesn’t God know that’ll lead to rationing?
not Norske but my voew is that he’s trying to re-make the Dem party into………….
his.
When Gillibrand voted to give the telecoms immunity after she said she wouldn’t, my support for her dwindled, but I don’t know anything about Maloney. Is Gillibrand really a bluedog at heart, or was she just that way to get elected because her house seat was formerly held by far-right Republicans? She was a whole lot better than Sweeney, and before that Gerry Solomon, but that ain’t sayin’ much.
Citizen JaneaneTheAcerbicGoblin:
“I think Bill…just wants to say to Obama ’screw you’”
Ya think??!!!…it’s time to send the Big Dog down ta Haiti ta rebuild his political base.
Citizen BargainCountertenor:
His doin’ in New York what he has done in a number of places that have conservative or DINO state leadership (like Indiana)…he’s tryin’ ta empower the folks outside the party establishment and use his popularity to seat officeholders who will owe more to Obama than the old, rotten state leadership…he’s been successful to some degree in creatin space for an expanded base of “new” Democrats. If Mr. McClinton thinks he’s gunna take the New York Democratic Party back for the bankers and bunko artists, he’s gunna get his dick caught in his zipper.
Maloney’s the congresscritter in NY-14 right? She must have a record we can check… I think she’s active in credit card reform. She certainly has more of a reputation as a progressive (at least more of a progressive) than Gillibrand, who’s basically a conservadem.
Shame on Paterson. Shame shame shame.
Sorry Norske, but I don’t agree. Gillibrand is from up where i live and the hunters and other NRA types aren’t gonna stay still if she even suggests she’s going to go for gun control.
We don’t need her. That doesn’t mean I endorse what Bubba is doing. Nothing like sowing division within a Democratic party that already has enough fissures.
Right on Maloney is the best bet forget Gillibrand:Anyone who “pals” around with Repukes George Pataki & Alphonse D’mato ought to tell you where her(Gillibrand) allegiance lies.Look,we don’t need more Senators like Dianne Feinstein we need more like Bernie Sanders & Sherrod Brown.Notice I excluded Sen Boxer,as she is very wishy washy, remember she went to Connecticut campaigned for Lieberman & lied about Lieberman’s comment about women & abortion. Moreover, when the congressional black caucus needed a single Senator to cosign an investigation of the 2000 election she wimped out.
So in your view, is this a good thing? I certainly think it’s an improvement on the status quo…
More primaries please.
Ya think??!!!…
It’s pretty obvious. Sorry for being so predictable.
it’s time to send the Big Dog down ta Haiti ta rebuild his political base.
Yup. Time the Big Dog got out of the game. He’s just in it for his base, the corporate DLC boys.
Consider that Obama is a neoliberal and not progressive generally. Now consider a Democratic Party remade in Obama’s image. No thanks. Also consider that Obama’s White House is staffed by a whole host of Clintonites. Obama is not the golden child.
Bill does what Bill wants to do.
Malone is a rep. from Manhattan NYC and she’s on the Frank Banking committee. she’s going to author at least one (hopefully more) bill to reform the financial sector.
I support Carolyn Maloney and wish Ms. Gillibrand good luck in her career as a lawyer for big tobacco or a big bank.
Oddly enough I think you’ve got this one backward. Gillibrand is pretty much Republican and I think Bill Clinton sees clearly that Maloney will be much better for New York.
We should support Maloney!
She got elected from a predominantly Republican district because she picked that district to run in. She knew she was a perfect fit. She previously worked in NYC for big money and big tobacco.
and just who would Obama’s base be then? He’s got Netanyahu’s butt-boy as his chief of staff, Wall Street pretty much gets whatever it wants from him while workers and the middle class get the old proctologist’s tickle without any lube, and he’s done nothing to rollback the unconstitutional actions of the previous criminal who occupied that office.
Obama has been bought and paid for, he just talks a good game. Obama is a three card monte dealer and everyone who believed in him is his mark.
You mean Obama is not in the pockets of the bankers and Wall St? You’re out of your mind. And why is it so wonderful if Obama’s building the party to be personally loyal to himself? Why is that better than loyalty to Nancy or Harry or anyone else? As far as I can see, he’s a worse DINO than the Clintons.
Narrow incorrect view. The financial advisors available to Obama are no better than the Army of the Potomac that Lincoln had to deal with. Obama is no way a Wall Street democrat like the Clintons
As far as Clintons go Mahoney is no McAuliffe and Clintons must be mortified by his 24% in VA. Clintons are fading fast and Clintons probably figure that Mahoney has beeter chance in primary than Schumer’s surrogate, I can’t spell her name
