I would like to see specific charge to investigate the roles of Federal and State executive and legislative branches for possible malfeasance and/or misfeasance. I would also include investigation of the role of various business media in not identifying (and/or ignoring) the probability of the crisis beforehand.

To some of the excellent candidates mentioned above (esp. William Black and Jamie Galbraith), I would add
Nouriel Rubini.

Geez, it’s a hard question. who has that kind of wide-ranging knowledge and experience. I think it calls for one pure-as-the-driven-snow leader and a range of other people with a variety of experiences.

Black, Spitzer, Born and Johnson is a good start.

econ, prosecutor, regulator, international, ?

I’d guess we need somebody else to deal specifically with market participation. Maybe somebody from Lehman with a grudge? Maybe an individual who has been an investor and lost during the stock mkt crash?

I suppose what I’m saying is we also need somebody with some dirt on their hands. I’d suggest former Senate majority leader Frist, but some of my ‘friends’ here would absolutely kill me. Heh. But, somebody with that kind of financial investment experience and interest in righting the system.

There will be no Pecora commission this time round.

I work in financial services, but I sadly (and regretfully) have to agree.

Half the crooks responsible for this mess now work in Washington, or have friends who do.

In addition, there is zero appetite for accountability inside the beltway these days, and I’m afraid the 9/11 whitewash will be the template for this one too.

Actually, there is a rumor going around that the fist Commission memebers may be nominated as soon as next week.

I don’t know of any provision in the bill for additional funding, OTOH, nothing stops Congress for adding additional appropriations for this purpose

There will be no Pecora commission this time round. The SEC is “even” not investigating how Citi had 900 billion in “cash or cash equivalents” on its books as of 12/07 and then was down to about 300 billion by 12/08 and how much in bonuses was paid on this overvalued balance sheet set up by none other than the Clintons’ Rubin, described by the Clintons as the best SOT since Hamilton. We have systemic fraud here and I am not relying on Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the Clinton democrats to get at it. This “democratic” Congress is the Army of the Patomac for President Obama.

@NelsonAlgren: I think you’ve misread section (B), serving reps are _not_ allowed to be on the commission.

With that in mind, what about Elliot Spitzer? He already knows where half the bodies are buried.
