As you will recall, there was an important hearing in the Northern District of California District Court, Judge Vaughn Walker presiding, on June 3rd. There were significant briefs from both the plaintiffs al-Haramain and the defendant government filed a few days before the hearing. Here now is the tick tock from the transcript of the hearing.

According to Paul Martin of Peace Action, Rep. Michael Capuano (D-MA) will vote “no” on the supplemental.
That brings the total to 33 Democrats who will vote against passage. We need 39.

Rahm Emanuel is threatening Democratic freshmen if they don’t vote for the bill. We need 39 Democratic votes to defeat it. Already 32 have committed to oppose it. Please write your local paper and urge them to support your member of Congress in voting against the supplemental. (If you don’t know who your member of Congress is, you can look them up here.)

Kent Conrad’s co-op model for health care reform is design to avoid a government sponsored public health care option. But he hasn’t explained how co-ops would solve any of the fundamental problems our health system faces, except the need to get 60 votes.

Democratic leaders told us earlier this year they had agreed we’d only need 51 votes to adopt health care reform. Kent Conrad says that’s not true. We need an explanation from Senate leaders. Is Conrad right? Did you mislead us?
