Both men full of sound and fury, signifying bupkus.

Sanford’s Lucky to be a Public Employee |
| By: Peterr Monday June 29, 2009 7:25 pm |
Two questions: (1) What would happen to Mark Sanford if he were a corporate CEO and not a Governor? and (2) Why do GOP leaders like Lindsey Graham reject the private sector, market-driven solution to a mess like this?
On the Rule of Law and Crimes of Torture |

Where the law is subject to some other authority and has none of its own, the collapse of the state, in my view, is not far off; but if law is the master of the government and the government is its slave, then the situation is full of promise and men enjoy all the blessings that the gods shower on a state. And thus was stated by Plato the general theory underlying

| By: Lisa Derrick Monday June 29, 2009 5:00 pm |
The producers and director of New Muslim Cool filmed their documentary during three years, a highly charged time in the life of the protagonist Hamza Perez, a former drug dealer who discovered Islam. Hamza and his brother Suliman converted from Catholism to Islam, much to the bewilderment of their families, and together they rap as Mujahideen Team, carrying the message of Islam to the street through their music. Hamza also works as youth counselor.
Americans for Financial Reform: Waste. Of. Time. |

They’ll make no attempt to figure out why this doesn’t work, or why the model has been such a colossal failure in the past. Because for them, it’s not a failure — big donors love big names. Congress doesn’t give a flying fuck, you say? Well, you have a point. But failing to have even a remote hope of success is not necessary to keep the funding stream flowing.

Iraq War levels of military spending will lead to far more job loss than Waxman-Markey, but for some reason the opponents of Waxman-Markey don’t seem to care about military spending.

There really isn’t any way to read this more charitably than “Republicans better step it up and make sure we never see a ‘pure public option’” — whatever that is.
Stonewall Redux 2009: The Rainbow Lounge, Fort Worth |
| By: Teddy Partridge Monday June 29, 2009 1:45 pm |
This year’s SF Pride parade led off with veterans of the Stonewall bar police raid, followed by youth LGBT organizers promoting “Stonewall 2.0″ — the new, activist, online organizing that has sprung up nationwide since Prop 8 passed. But Saturday night, early Sunday morning really, on the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, patrons of a brand-new gay bar in Fort Worth, Texas, were treated to a real life re-enactment of the police riot of forty years ago that rang all too true.

“it would be irresponsible at this time to commit to taking a position on a bill when we don’t know what will happen, but this has no bearing on his very strong support for a public option.”
Blue Dog Kabuki: Why Exactly Do They Need Protecting? |
| By: Jane Hamsher Monday June 29, 2009 11:59 am |
Tom Perriello wanted to vote against the bill as an act of conscience. He had his arm twisted and wound up voting yes, giving cover to Blue Dogs like Gene Taylor so they could vote “no.”
Gene Taylor is utterly and completely safe. He won 74.6% of the vote in 2008, and 79.8% in 2006. He’s beloved.
Periello, on the other hand, was a photo finish at 50.1% to Virgil Goode’s 49.8%.
Whatever this is about, it ain’t about protecting “vulnerable” Blue Dogs at risk of losing their seats.
