It’s the president’s job to make the best decisions he can and keep the country governable at the same time. When it comes to highly divisive issues like the war, he’s got to consider many factors — including the pressures that the military and the CIA bring to bear on the situation. It’s the public’s job to create the political space for him to move in. For those who supported his candidacy because we wanted to bring an end to the war, it means we have to answer his call to go out and “make him do it.”

Obama whipped the Blue Dogs personally on the supplemental, had them over to the White House, called them and pressured them. Every single Blue Dog voted for the supplemental, despite the fact that they had huge concerns about the enormous price tag, and it went totally against their “fiscal responsibility” mantra.

Eric Holder can’t seem to do squat for transparency, privacy, accountability or a plethora of other ills carried over from the Bush/Cheney Administration, but he is concerned that we need more hate crimes laws. This is wrong and he should be paying attention to more important goals.
