It’s sort of a Mexican standoff, politically speaking. The Governor, the Governor’s wife, Lt. Governor Andre Bauer, Lindsay Graham, all figuratively waving firearms and literally waving a bible at the people of South Carolina. Wouldn’t this be best decided via demolition derby and, if so, I would suggest adding Chris Cilizza and Ron Christie and the Argentinian firecracker just to round out the field, and to give the people of South Carolina their money’s worth.

Someone call Joe Jackson! If we could combine this event with a high profile funeral, it would be ratings gold!! Does anybody know a good lawyer who could “convince” a judge to issue an order staying Billy Mays’ funeral? I’m just saying that this would be good for democracy in South Carolina and Biily Mays could score a free funeral, but only if you call within the next ten minutes.

It has been reported that Sanford and his wife have been participating in a marraige counciling reconciliation of some kind.

Who is paying for this marraige counciling?

The people of South Carolina or the Sanford’s themselves.

I mean is Sanford’s health care provided to the Governor, by the people covering this marraige counciling?

reminds me of a joke Marilyn Monroe told (not that I usually would):

Someone offers her a bowl of matzo ball soup.

Marilyn: Isn’t there some other part of the matzo to make soup from?

Classic Marilyn. Said straight-faced with that little-girl style, but wickedly funny.

Don’t forget the Spiro Agnew/Dan Quale theory of staying in office in spite of screwing up. If people shudder or wince of the thought of the successor, they will not try as hard to push you out.

From all accounts I have read, Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer is such a figure. For example, the state did not have security for the top two executives until Bauer had several run-ins with the police. It was because of him that the legislature voted funding for him and the Gov. to have security details which the Gov. did not want and frequently eluded as he did last week.

It has been reported that Bauer has offered to serve out the term and plege not to run if he does. It didn’t sound like anyone was buying that. Other possible contenders for Gov. don’t want him to have the advantage of running as an incumbant.

Yes, but for damaging the company’s image and suchlike. Not for walking off the job.
It’s my hobbyhorse this week. He walked off the F*cking job. My previous employer would have fired my rank-and-file ass for that, without even asking what I was doing with the time.
It’s not the sex, the hypocrisy is good for political mileage, but the complete irresponsibility is what should get his ass thrown out of the gov’s mansion.

What?

Most of the folks they talked to said he *would* get fired:

He would be fired, said Jim Balassone, executive-in-residence at the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics at Santa Clara University where he teaches business ethics. . . .

The CEO in that scenario probably would be fired because of the “tremendous image crisis,” said Richard Larrick, professor of management for Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. . . .

A chief executive in Sanford’s situation might be able to get away with an affair or disappearing for a few days, Gallagher said. But the combination of events would not fly at most companies.

“When you don’t speak the truth, you find everything around you collapses,” he said. “A board of directors would remove a CEO or executive vice president.” . . .

Wow. Even “The State’s” corporate consultants don’t consider the job abandonment/dereliction of duty aspect of Markie’s disappearance.
But as one of the commentors on the article says, people get fired for disappearing and not calling in for 3 work days.

But, of course, rules are only for the Little People and the Democrats. Honestly, if the people of SC don’t have the brains or spine to kick Markie to the curb, I guess they have the politicians they deserve.

Apparently Lindsey’s MTP appearance really has people like Chris Cilliza all excited.

not to mention Ron Christie…
