Judge Denny Chin Sentenced Bernard Madoff to 150 years in prison—the maximum sentence allowed—for creating the massive Ponzi scheme that defrauded hundreds of people and institutions of millions of dollars.
Chin called Madoff’s crime “extraordinary evil.”
Judge Denny Chin turned aside Mr. Madoff’s own assertions of remorse and rejected the suggestion from Mr. Madoff’s lawyers that there was a sense of “mob vengeance” surrounding calls for a long prison term.
“Objectively speaking, the fraud here was staggering,” the judge said. “It spanned more than 20 years.”
“Cheers and applause” erupted in the courtroom as the sentence was announced.

Justice
from Greg’s NYT link -
believe the Judge ruled All Madoff’s assets are to go to his victims
Think his lawyers got paid up front?

That Bernie got prosecuted only because he refused to let the govt wiretap everyone in secret.
Wow. It’s pretty rare that this magnitude of thievery gets labeled “extraordinary evil”. Usually it’s called sophisticated financial planning.
I hope other bernies get the message, but most likely they won’t.
I think Bernie should be given the choice of his current sentence or 10 years in Rikers Island general population.
Do we know what kind of prison he’s going to? Does it have a golf course?
Denny Chin was a labor lawyer at Vladeck Waldman Elias & Englehard before moving to the bench (Clinton appointee, 1993). Vladeck Waldman goes way back, started by Stephan Vladeck as counsel for ILGWU (& Amalgamated). Judith Vladeck graduate from Columbia Law in 1947 — her class was two years behind Constance Baker Motley. (Columbia admitted interesting people in those days!). Judith herself described her firm as “the last socialist law firm in America.”
He MadeOff with all their money – why should he whine about the consequences?
Dear President Obama, Mr. Holder and members of Congress,
This is what the rule of law looks like. Would you please apply liberally to other members of Wall street and any members of the previous administration who trashed our constitution?
Thank you
