I respect your comments on this list a good deal so I will allow myself to note the tendency for men to sincerely make nice with, say woman power, but, unintentionally, I think, take the edge off with a bit of humor, like let’s not take this too seriously. Seems a small thing perhaps but, watch for it, it often ends the conversation.

I don’t think older men are so much scared by the rise of women as confused –I guess confusion turns into fear.

I hope to live to see a critical mass of women in US politics. What will that number be? 30% of house and senate? 40%? Sweden has 47% UK 19.5 US 17

Yes. It is a good strong feeling. I have two daughters. They both have significant male energy. Or that is how some would describe it. I just see them as healthy and not taking any “stuff” from others

Patriarchy with all its power has a very long history. Until the 80’s the LA Civil Code talked about the male as “head & master of the community”, meaning he controlled, could sell etc any of the community property. What finally went to the Sup Ct. to change that community regime was when a criminal man sold the family home to pay lawyer fees to defend….sex (incestuous) abuse charges…I think the recent changes for women and minorities have scared the ….b-jeesus out of most men, esp of a certain age. At least protecting all that turf and control has been complete culture shock, hence, the rage….at least in part, as I see it.

Everytime I hear a report on the numbers of women in Law, Medicine, and among college graduates, it almost takes my breath to realize the changes in what may seem like rather short time. I heard the hypothesis that Ms. Obama may seek to be Senator or even Pres. That vision would have been a hallucination only a few years back. I guess men better start adjusting; many of them will just have to die off. And gays have a similar tale to tell.

I have read about that ex-pat community in Sacramento. I don’t think you are a bigot, but I can report that my dental student dentist is also from Ukraine, and is a very open, warm, and accepting (straight) person. So while fundies may be bigoted wherever on the globe they come from, Ukrainians are not all bigots.

Nope, I got an email from her not too much longer after Howie hosted her here, saying she’d decided not to run. Too bad, I say. She came very close, which is amazing, especially in SCarolina, where no women have been elected statewide or to federal offices EVER.
