Considering that Edwards’ old affair came to light after his career was already over, whereas the Sanford and Ensign affairs were revealed while they still held office and as they were gearing up to run for the presidency in 2012, isn’t it a bit odd that the media spent much more time beating up on Edwards’ dead horse?  Especially since there are indications that not only was Sanford’s affair not over, but that Sanford was getting ready to go permanently AWOL on his Skil-heiress wife, his sons, his career, and his religio-political patrons in "The Family" to spend the rest of his life with his Argentine mistress, only to be rebuffed by her.

So strange, that the press folk have already forgotten about Ensign (who is still in the Senate), and will soon forget about Sanford (who is still governor of South Carolina) thanks to Michael Jackson — yet will use any pretext they can to return to trashing John Edwards, a man who no longer is on the political scene, like dogs returning to their own vomit.  What makes the old affair of a Democrat who is no longer in politics any more newsworthy than the affairs of two Republicans who were among the top picks for the GOP nomination in 2012?  Hmmmmm.
