The glee comes form the fact that the GOP uses infidelity as a litmus test with respect to the Presidency. Clinto was impeached fro his sexual indiscretion. Edwards never got to the point of serious contender, but has he I’m sure that a dime would have been dropped and McCain would have rolled over him notwithstanding his own brushes with this litmus test.

Senator Ensign and Governor Sanford have now failed the GOP litmus test for running as the GOP candidate for the Presidency. They are now unqualified to serve according to the gospel of the GOP. Try as you might to forget the muted GOP uproar over Senator Larry Craig. (They weren’t going to let him resign because that would have shifted power in the Senate. Ditto for Ensign.) As Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan liked to say that was just boob bait for the bubbas. But although neither Ensign nor Sanford will resign, because they don’t have to and the GOP has no moral authority if ever it did, they have disqualified themselves from the Presidency of the United States as GOP standard bearers.

Agree very much….except when it gets to the point that the pol lies repeatedly about the affair. Which is tied up with the whole hypocrisy thing; if they weren’t hypocrites, they could just admit the truth and be done with it.
