Some countries just have too much oil I guess — and some have just the right amount.
Documents gathered by lawyers for the families of Sept. 11 victims provide new evidence of extensive financial support for Al Qaeda and other extremist groups by members of the Saudi royal family, but the material may never find its way into court because of legal and diplomatic obstacles.
Oh, Americans sure do love oil, and they apparently love a big ol’ lie made up in the heat of the moment at just the right time. Like how Mohammad Atta met a guy from the Iraqi government in Prague — just perfect for bombing Iraq, at least as far as David Broder et al are concerned.
All for a few deaths, give or take a million, and a couple trillion dollars. Oh, and you still won’t get to see the really good documents about our "friends".
No, we should not have attacked Saudi Arabia instead, but once again, what an incredible act of malevolent hubris and moral criminality bombing Iraq was in comparison.
Yeah, breaking news, I know.

Thanks for bringing this up again. Something we should never forget. I wonder if the GAO will ever get around to tracing the billions of dollars that found there way over to Iraq in suitcases, never to return? I have begun to wonder if the purpose wasn’t so much to steal from the Arabs, as to steal from the American people. In any event, it was grand larceny on a grand scale.
Indeed, though it seems that Stephen Colbert has either forgotten and/or drunk the Surge Kool-Aid.
“Hey! The Surge really reduced Iraqi-on-Iraqi violence!”
Yeah. Violence that wouldn’t have happened without the US overthrow of their gov’t. And as if less violence now makes up for all the dead, wounded and displaced by the invasion itself…
Thanks, Attaturk.

Saudi Arabia’s rather lengthy border with Iraq and proximity to the trans Saudi oil pipeline which run along a large portion of the Saudi/Iraqi border gives Saudi Arabia the ability to move vast quantities of crude obtained from the Iraqi desert, to market. Is it possible or probbible that our involvement in Iraq is the result of deals cut between the Saudi Royal Family and western oil interests? War to perpetuate US oil delivery system……….. “US OIL WHORES”
http://www.debka.com/article.php?aid=1300
“Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Yemen have launched the vast Trans-Arabia Oil Pipeline project with encouragement from Washington, DEBKA-Net Weekly 313 revealed on Aug. 10, 2007. By crisscrossing Arabia overland, the net of oil pipelines will bypass the Straits of Hormuz at the throat of the Persian Gulf and so remove Gulf oil routes from the lurking threat of Iranian closure.”
Understanding motive, causality and reality????????????
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aramco
“Saudi Aramco is the state-owned national oil company of Saudi Arabia. It is the largest oil corporation in the world with the largest proven crude oil reserves and production [2]. Headquartered in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, Saudi Aramco also operates the world’s largest single hydrocarbon network, the Master Gas System. It was known as just Aramco between the years of 1933-1988, an acronym for Arabian American Oil Company.”
…..needs that where instilled in me by corporate design, needs that where not real at all……just conditioned minds!”
Alcohol……… tobacco……….gas…… and tax………
War crimes enabled by energy aristocrats is Corporate Treason as Jefferson warned. We lack the testicular fortitude to hold war criminals accountable under the law, while they manipulated and usurped law in the lust for endless profit!! Real American values here??????
Another thing to bring up again…

McInsane performing one of his favorite Beach Boys songs. In light of what’s happening now in Iran, this is especially appropriate.
We know CrazyTrainMcCain is nuts already, but just seeing the glee in this audience about “sending an airmail message to Tehran” is really chilling. It’s got me more upset than ever before, and enough with the “respectful debate” with these killers. What a bunch of stupid fucks that are truly a menace to the world’s children, and they should treated as such.
Truly vile humans most the of the modern-day Repubs are, and we must continue to remove the levers of power from the hands, and make sure they NEVER get any power back. For the sake of all of our kids, we must bury this mentality once and for all!
McShame was also wanting to board that NK freighter which would promote the revival of the Korean war.
Morning all
I can still picture to this day Dick Cheney & George Bush doing a phone conference call with the Saudis saying, “Okay, give us your best suicidal maniacs. We’re planning the attack for 9/11, you know, to psychologically tell Americans that this is an emergency! Oh, and oh yeah, to celebrate H.W. Bush’s 11 year New World Order anniversary!”…

Is someone running against McShame next year?
“Truly vile humans most the of the modern-day Repubs are, and we must continue to remove the levers of power from the hands, and make sure they NEVER get any power back. For the sake of all of our kids, we must bury this mentality once and for all!”
You’ll hurt your throat. Stop it.
Good morning, pups. It’s MoDo, Friedman and Cohen this morning. MoDo has given us “Vice and Spice,” in which she says world leaders may have flaws, but Barack Obama’s nicotine addiction is positively monkish compared with Silvio Berlusconi’s Vesuvial vices. The Moustache of Wisdom, in “The Green Revolution(s),” says Iranian reformers don’t need praise. They need the United States to end its dependency on the oil that finances Iran’s Islamic dictatorship. Mr. Cohen says it is “The End of the Beginning,” and that the Iranian uprising of 2009 has ended its first phase, but the volatility is certain to endure over the coming year.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got Thomas’ English muffins with your favorite jam. The pitchers of iced tea, lemonade and ice water are in the fridge for later. I overslept a bit, so I’m going to have to dash off and do all that morning stuff to get ready for work. Have a great day.
Morning Marion. We were given a cheese making course that has set us on a path to wonderful, and very inexpensive, cheeses that we give as gifts and serve our friends.
A number of elections have not gone the way America has wanted over the last few years. Venezuala, Iran, Palestine, Lebanon and of course America. Something to do with shitty fucking politicians and politics in Washington DC I believe.
Too bad these criteria were not applied to the decision to invade Iraq.
Thanks…good morning to you. OT;)) I woke up to a local radio interview. A young woman talking about meeting Molly Ivins when the newcomer first moved here. (RIP, Molly) Molly told her the “secret to happiness in Austin is to be sure to stay off of I-35″. (Our local traffic dangerous nightmare) So, think of Molly and smile. I would love to hear her thoughts on the current stuff, esp. the mindless Repubs. Cheers
Juan Cole is a particularly good read this morning as well.
Thanks for remembering! That looks fascinating. Do you have critters, or do you have to get the milk elsewhere? (I assume supermarket milk wouldn’t do, but I may be wrong there…)
Good morning. OT:Today should be fun since Sanford is scheduled to return and may face the press. Did you read that the press contacted the missus yesterday who said she still hasn’t heard from him. Her quote was
Hysterical….how often do you just have to get away from it all?
Funny how he is hiking the trail while his car was found at the airport. HMMMMMMMM
Boy, that’s a reply that is just asking to be speculated upon.
To paraphrase Peggy Noonan, sure it would be wrong to speculate, but it would be more wrong not to.
Sanford has been made a Thai sex slave, just like Amelia Earhart, Judge Crater and Jimmy Hoffa.
Yep: It’s magic. I can only guess how it would fly for me to be AWOL for 3 or 4 days…
Missing fathers day with ones kids is unfathonable to me.
Why would it even be necessary? Was he throwing a tantrum? He forgot his phone charger?
There have been no mass actions organized in this country against egregious government policy. I think it has to do with the rise of consumerism during the Raygun tenure and a proliferation of stupid people. Also, there were more activist in the CPUSA and Socialist Workers Party organizing them during the late sixties, to the point that Nixon had to conjure up the Silent Majority meme in response.
Michael Moore pursued the Saudis in his film released after the Saudi attack, but ran into a wall much sooner than he had done in his pursuit of Roger Smith after the Flint assembly plant had been shut-down for good. He reminded us of how no one could board commercial flights out of the country except for the Saudis, at the time.
A fugue state? Come Fly with me…
Per HuffPo:
He should be able to smooth it over with her if he has about a three hundred page draft of something. Alternatively, he needs to be able to take her to a cabin full of of wadded typing paper. Each sheet, when unwadded would have to say something like, “In my minds eye, I can still see those days…”, or “I came into the world on a windy day in January…”, or “The parents of this bold fresh piece of flesh met…”.
“It was a dark and stormy night…”
NPR says he is due back today….How would they know?
New morning post….looks like the Gov’s running gear was left in the van.
Thanks, Attaturk.
It would seem that the Department of Justice needs a new name. Suggestions?
From The Young Ones, Oil:
Dept. of Bush/Cheney Revenue Protection?
Uh oh, you’ve made me start all over.
These “people” are proposing to kill untold amounts of innocent people, and laughing and telling jokes about doing it. The video clearly shows this fact. Nothing is being taken out of context or twisted. That’s simply what’s happening.
Can someone explain to me how this mentality is different from a serial killer?
(oh, and I did strain my middle finger while typing that. Here, wanna see it? There ya go. __i__ )
Bonkers.
Nope. No difference whatsoever. Vietnam proved that.
Just as an exercise in consciousness-raising I’ve tried to get people to note the train of events over the years. Nothing works with people who think a corporate organization touting its plans worldwide to cause death and destruction so as to secure control of black gold – PNAC- is somehow a ‘conspiracy theory’ dreamed up by….who was that masked man again ?
Here’s the War Game ‘Post Saddam Iraq’ aka ‘Desert Crossing’ : a setpiece explaining how to destroy opposition governments.

This is a travesty. Am I the only one that remembers various Saudi royals and their lackeys dismissing their financing for Al Qaeda as the pious, private gifts of family members (like wives) to what they thought were charities? Not a matter of Saudi state policy at all, oh no! Now that law suits are involved, suddenly family business is sovereign state business?
If the government now considers this matter a foreign-policy issue that private suits cannot address, what is our foreign policy doing about it? If the government now considers 9/11 a Saudi state-funded terrorist operation,is Saudi Arabia going to be on the state-sponsors embargo list?
