was a lovely summer day in the low 70’s today – until a cold breeze blew in this afternoon. tonight i am wearing fleece again and have the fire going to chase away the chill.
i think this is from her aretha in paris tour and album of the same name… could not confirm it but i think it is the same version of that song on that album
Drove to work today at the airport, there was an older gent panhandling in traffic at a stop-light. This song sprang to mind, from the tail-end of the wreckage of the last time we had the misfortune to be ruled by Bush Pere.
Bruce Hornsby. Great song, saw him do it in concert in North Carolina in 1988. As relevant now as it was then.
I do remember this, but as a mother of two (in diapers) by 1983, Mr.CE and I missed most of the cultural life of the 1980s. Simply too overwhelmed. No art, no film, no music, geez! Being poor sucked.
i spent the day yesterday with my oldest girls family (the bride). baby girl was unable to attend due to having food poisoning. tis a good feeling being with family.
It’s alright Christine, I missed most of it too, deployed all over the western Pacific and Indian Ocean on various ships. Wishing I was Homeward Bound quite a bit of the time.
The Simon and Garfunkel video goes into this delightful bit of Mamas and Papas with a stunning vocal by Cass Elliot. She was so talented.
The Mrs and I had our honeymoon in Nova Scotia 20 years ago (next month). We rented a car and stayed in Digby at the Pines Resort… went whale watching, berry picking and watched those phenomenal tides. It’s quite lovely, and one of these days we’ll go back to do it again.
LOL… well, I guess it’s cause they were friends since they were kids and they did well together. But Paul Simon was the talented one… and he’s proved it over and over through the years.
In a total DJ mood tonight… sorry for (attempted) thread hijacking again Suze, how about some Carly Simon (no relation to Paul)…great song, wish I had been at this peformance.
my house cleaning music is morrison hotel by the doors. start to finish and usually the chores are done by the time the tunes are. good hard driving rock beat is great for cleaning.
What a funny piece he did. I’m always ticked at the people who are picked from the US that make us look oh so bad. Read a paper, people, it won’t break your eyes. Jesus.
Suz, it is good. I’m sure there are crummy ones out there, but decent pounds do them well, shelling them on the spot. Done right it’s about a whole lobster per roll..
tomorrow is stay home and rest day for me but i’m thinking about driving up north to the seafood place on the dock. i’m thinking i could get my lunch and take home a dinner. i just had a piece of turtle pie but am hankering for a good seafood sandwich.
ok ok so
one bottle of wine and a day filled with bill fucking collectors
i am ready to take on all of ‘em startin’ tomorrow with oxdown.
They thought they were playing me with the good cop/bad cop manipulation.
Fuckery. (fuckery is code, dudes. collection A**HOLES don’t have a clue as to what it means)
Usually, I don’t get caught up in the efforts of others to take my money. At least not recently.
I declare that it is UnAmerican to pay your credit cards. That money 25% interest money
should not go to the CEO’s but back into the economy.
Oh, did I mention we need some factories in this country?
Watching howard dean on colbert, and i think we should start a petition asking all congressmembers opposed to a public option to give up their government insurance and buy their own in the “free market”
Hello! I wrote Issa today (after a letter back from him explaining that it wouldn’t be American to have a gov program) reminding him that there are a lot more voters than there are health related companies.
Starting with DiFi, MaxGraft Max Baucus and a few others on both sides of th aisle… no shit. It’s absurd that they get the best health insurance our money can buy and we get…shit.
loohoo – issa is gonna rue the day he ever heard of loohoo (if he doesn’t already). my oregon rep isn’t on the jane list but i’m gonna call him tomorrow and lay into him about single payer and that i’m willing to compromise with a robust public option.
Exploding Wire Experiments
Experiments in using very high pulsed power as an art form, and just to blow stuff up.
An electrical charge is slowly accumulated in a device capable of releasing the entire charge amounting to millions of Watts of instantaneous power for a very brief instant. This immense surge of power is used to completely vaporize a thin metal wire or other conducting path in a violent explosion, leaving deposits of metal and other chemical compounds in a rainbow of colors and iridescent patterns. The entire pattern is captured in less than a thousandth of a second, and reveals an amazing amount of detail not captured by these photos.
A beautiful woman loved growing tomatoes, but couldn’t seem to get her tomatoes to turn red. One day, while taking a stroll, she came upon a gentleman neighbor who had the most beautiful garden full of huge red tomatoes. The woman asked the gentlemen, ‘What do you do to get your tomatoes so red?’
The gentlemen responded, ‘Well, twice a day I stand in front of my tomato garden naked in my trench coat and flash. My tomatoes turn red from blushing so much.’
Well, the woman was so impressed, she decided to try doing the same thing to her tomato garden to see if it would work. So twice a day for two weeks she flashed her garden hoping for the best.
One day the gentleman was passing by and asked the woman, ‘By the way, how did you make out? Did your
tomatoes turn red?’ ‘No, she replied, ‘but my cucumbers are enormous.’
as their employers, it is up to us to inform them that the old way of doing business isn’t going to work in today’s economy and changes are going to have to be made.
either we get what they get or they get what we get. take your pick
zed?

was a lovely summer day in the low 70’s today – until a cold breeze blew in this afternoon. tonight i am wearing fleece again and have the fire going to chase away the chill.

hi Suze, Margot and Pups worldwide!!!
I do remember this, but as a mother of two (in diapers) by 1983, Mr.CE and I missed most of the cultural life of the 1980s. Simply too overwhelmed. No art, no film, no music, geez! Being poor sucked.

hey ce – how’s ohio tonight?
Pretty great — children coming home for July and August visits (others being wed). Planning vacation August and Sept.-Oct.
i spent the day yesterday with my oldest girls family (the bride). baby girl was unable to attend due to having food poisoning. tis a good feeling being with family.
where ya gonna go?
My baby brother has a house in Canada, Campobello Island. He told me that I can whale watch from the front porch!!! Reading planned. And cooking.
Sept.-Oct. meeting for European Medical Museum Assoc. in Paris (I know, I know)
that sounds lovely ce – sigh… which coast of canada is that?
Aretha sings WILLIE! Who’d a thunk it?
hey that guy – thanks for the tunage
North east. Picking up old parents at Bangor Airport in Maine, then three hour drive north on route 1, to Canadian border.
Campobello Island is in the Bay of Fundy.
how kewl ce – sigh
Oh Jo,
SO love this!
Bangor Airport… where I learned to fly when I was a kid (soloed there in a Grumman Trainer, quite a handful for a new pilot at 16 years old)
another one gone too soon jo
It will be our first trip. Years and years ago we drove to Nova Scotia, and returned via Bay of Fundy, but never saw the tides.
Hey did you read the Vanity Fair piece about Sully Sullenberger and you other young pilots?
Bay of Fundy, brrrr.
Have a lobster roll (or two) for me.
You know, I don’t even know what a lobster roll is — and I eat lobster!
hey sunny
Love Aretha, but Ester Phillips is the best.
Home is Where the Hatred Is.
hey loohoo – wow she has great pipes
No, have to get around to that…
The Mrs and I had our honeymoon in Nova Scotia 20 years ago (next month). We rented a car and stayed in Digby at the Pines Resort… went whale watching, berry picking and watched those phenomenal tides. It’s quite lovely, and one of these days we’ll go back to do it again.
btw, the first link does not work :(
Hiya LooHoo… how’s the southern left coast tonight?
Quick drive by… Hi Pups Good night Pups…
Special hi for Suz (:>))

Just watched that again for the first time in many years. Now I wonder why Simon didn’t ditch Garfunkle well before he did!
Single payer
Good night all.

LOL… well, I guess it’s cause they were friends since they were kids and they did well together. But Paul Simon was the talented one… and he’s proved it over and over through the years.

Blessedly, it’s still really cool. Socks at night if you can imagine! I dread the Aug/Sept heat though. How’s tricks?
Nite CE… sleep well!
my house cleaning music is morrison hotel by the doors. start to finish and usually the chores are done by the time the tunes are. good hard driving rock beat is great for cleaning.
Tricks be good…probably gonna get furloughed Sept/Oct timeframe unless the airline industry takes off again (like a Saturn V)…
Cold lobster and mayo in a split top bun. Here are pix.
A $20 sammich :-) Portland airport has good ones, mebbe Bangor too.

ohmystars that looks and sounds yummy
Total respect. House cleaning music is housecleaning music. (Don’t neglect John Mayall!)
But for ironing…Hank Williams!
God. Bummer. I just retired, but my fellow teachers are looking at furloughs too.
Life is all screwed up. (Thanks, W)
ironing? i think i remember ironing (laughing) my limited wardrobe is of the can be worn outta the dryer variety.
Ironing? Wuzzaat? LOL (as I head off to iron my uniform shirt for tomorrow)…
A better version of Homeward Bound? YouTube never ceases to amaze me… and this version of Graceland… Paul and Willie..

Sheryl Crow – Mississippi – live
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZedANJA76s
I love that song so much! Just could never figure out why Simon wanted his love to wait “silently for him”!
Maybe she was typically a loud mouth?!
hey dutton – been a while since i listened to sheryl – thanks for a reminder. love her voice
What a funny piece he did. I’m always ticked at the people who are picked from the US that make us look oh so bad. Read a paper, people, it won’t break your eyes. Jesus.
Quiet in here… back to ironing? LOL
There’s only one thing that I did wrong
I stayed in Mississippi a day too long
his segment last night was very poignant – tds is making news not just making fun of news
Suz, it is good. I’m sure there are crummy ones out there, but decent pounds do them well, shelling them on the spot. Done right it’s about a whole lobster per roll..

(((mary mcc)))
am watching it also – if it is good enough for our congresscritters, it is good enough for me.
You know your getting old when all your music is recorded on clay tablets.
or being played on the old folks radio station as ‘classic tunes from yesteryear’
Hello! I wrote Issa today (after a letter back from him explaining that it wouldn’t be American to have a gov program) reminding him that there are a lot more voters than there are health related companies.
As if…

Nothing to do with healthcare…but this is such a wonderful Natalie Merchant song, so sad, and so true. Tears me up when I hear it…
her voice is so haunting jofish
the serious moonlight…..
Time for a grass roots initiative to ban paid health coverage for elected officials. Prolly take a constitutional amendment.
We can’t afford them.
We can’t afford them.
no shit.
and if they had to deal with the insurance options available to all regular federal or state employees – i’m betting their tune would quickly change.

Do you have an appreciation for HDR photography. You must. Your pics are riveting.
sorta like those guys from mythbusters doing art?

geeebers. Looks hard.
~raises hand quietly~
That’s right! We can’t afford them if they can’t afford us. People are waking up right about now. (the Iranians sure are inspirational, aren’t they??)
Yeah they are. Get your prybars ready people, we got cobblestones to pry up…it’s about time.
as their employers, it is up to us to inform them that the old way of doing business isn’t going to work in today’s economy and changes are going to have to be made.
either we get what they get or they get what we get. take your pick
OMG. Forgot all about that song, but thanks!
Informing doesn’t seem to work with Issa…
Admittedly, he has a whole boatload of stupid on his team.
they can’t ignore the numbers of voters in favor of real health care change for long.
Night
g’nite bb – may your row tomorrow be pleasant
