About Firedoglake
Mornin’, twolf. I forgot, it’s summer and folks go on vacation.
Megan is such a cutie.
Neda was too.
Another scorcher in central FL today. The northerners who retired here are asking themselves “Why?”
Hey, Rep Davis! Yeah, you, shithead. I got something to cure your hunger right here.
If you’re going to a vigil for Neda talk to those in attendance about rallying for single payer healthcare. The health insurance companies are killing people just as a lone yellow bellied gunman killed Neda.
I read an article recently about how Sean Hannity tried to help Hal Turner in his homosexuality! Now gee…an angry right winger with a microphone lashing out at everyone is trying to deal with himself being gay? Shocker!
Hal Turner should be behind bars….not because he’s a closeted gay….but because he is a danger to the well-being of our nation!
Of course the worst is over for Soros. The stock market is up from its lows. For workers, not so much.
Prescott Bush strikes again.
Did you watch it? I couldn’t. (((Neda))) for all the good that will do.
twolf, I like the enhanced detail in your links. Why? Because I’m lazy, I guess. Thanks.
That S&B should have Geronimo’s remains is totally disgusting. That Obama should side with them is beyond disgusting.
Morning all,
This was according to the ayatolla clown a divinely inspired election.
RE Hunger Can Be a Positive Motivator:
Thus spake the chubby-cheeked, privileged white woman.
Mornin’ Blue Texan and Firedogs,
Tiger man,
even if one accepts the ridiculously low figure currently bandied about of 18,000 Americans dying per year due to lack of healthcare (and even CATO puts it at 25,000), that puts it at 49 Americans die every day
Hey, if it’s good for the U.S., it’s good enough for Iran.
New math?
That’s just one of the ways that the U.S. limits medical expenses. Left up to DCers, the U.S. would save a lot more that way.
Nokia and Seimens AG, two european corporations, are providing the technology to Iran to shut down the internets and communication.
Also, according to democracynow, they’re facilitating the govt of Iran to put out disinformation and propaganda.
Fear not! U.S. media will be all over this.
A dry run for a future implementation here in the HOMELAND?
Yes, and am paying the price for doing so. I know better.
Mornin’ all!
I’m sorry. For you. For her. For all of us. Namaste in short supply.
one aspect being under covered in the debate is access to care -
the sale, consolidation, and closure of hospitals in ‘rural’ areas where they are often the only source for care, is quite literally killing americans
eg, let’s take a small state like Arkansas shall we Senator Lincoln ? . . . . in 2006, 4 rural hospitals were closed and another 4 were “consolidated”.
viva la competition !
I think it’s not a dry run. The U.S. govt is already propagandizing in the U.S., both directly & thru the “private” media.
I’m not sure how the government would do otherwise. If the suit is upheld, it would require that the U.S. Government take action against the Skull and Bones Society to make them prove that they do not possess the relics. My understanding is that the claim that they possess them, or that they are missing from the gravesite, is not known to be fact.
I don’t get this at all? If any case would fall under NAGPRA (the Native American Grave Protection and Reclamation Act) it would be this one. Geronimo’s remains are clearly identifiable, they were stolen from Federal land in a criminal act, and the descendents claim them for reburial. They aren’t even being held by a legitimate scientific institution for any sort of research.
The Bush Administration defended reburial of the 15,000 year old Kennewick remains, for which there was no culturally identifiable descendant groups (probably for crass political reasons, admittedly) so Obama’s action in this situation is clearly befuddling. Are frat boys going to be able to dig up burials for pranks now?
All the martyrs and their potential descendants must have risen from the dead on election day.
A young woman lost her life, needlessly, for being a part of a crowd. How many Americans have the “courage” to march for something they believe in, knowing that the chances of mishap are virtually nil? Lazy, afraid, self-centered motherfuckers.
What’s the problem with that? Will the S&B officials lie under oath? To my knowledge, there’s oral & written reports that the remains were dug up by S&B & transported. Are those reports merely braggadocia? Enquiring minds want to know.
Okay, I’m not a motherfucker, but apart from that . . .
I don’t know, SD. Would I? Could I? Would we? Lordy, I hope so. It’s so easy to pontificate via the keyboard.
I’m not retired. Just relocated.
Why?
Just read that authorities have ordered Neda’s memorial service canceled.
supposed to be cooler in The City Beautiful today. By — I dunno – after dinner last night I was just completely wiped out. Just too damn hot. Hey. At least it hasn’t rained in a few days. I was getting sick of all the rain.
Guest on WJ wrote an 800 page biography of Rumsfeld. Words did not fail him.
And just so you know? S’posed to reach 95 degrees in the northland tomorrow, with mega-humidity.
I would imagine most folks here would march for single payer and many have marched against the wars. Those who would never consider rallying in the streets don’t come here. There are many valid reasons why those who would like to don’t, health, can’t get off work, etc, but I don’t know of any here who are just lazy or afraid to.
According to the Rumsfeld biographer, Rummy’s a tragic figure. According to me, Rummy’s an asshole.
Yes, to memorialize Prescott Bush’s lifelong love affair with genocide.
That should go over well.
If S&B officially denies possession, the government might excecute search warrants, I guess. It would lead to a merry chase for those who like to disparage all government endeavors. I would rather they weren’t involved.
I’ve marched, too. But never believed I was laying my life on the line. Never, in fact, knew I was laying my life on the line. I think what we do here is vastly different. And I’m not denigrating it. Saw a photo yesterday of an obviously somewhat older man in Iran, bearing a gun and peering over the site through reading glasses. Whichever side he’s on, he was exhibiting raw courage. Or rage sufficient to overcome fear. Or both.
Got your point. However, Amerindians might disagree.
More divinely inspired BS
Ooops. Rummy biographer just told a whopper. Can no longer listen. BBL.
Yeah, I plan to run right out and get my copy… and I subscribe to your evaluation of Rummy, btw!
The Quakers here have been doing anti-war protests at various big intersections since 2002. They’ve had people swerve towards them, throw things at them from fast moving vehicles, listened to 10 tons of verbal abuse. Most of them are older than me. Since SPFP is no longer holding vigils I’ll be joining the Quakers every Wednesday.
They can kill me but they can’t eat me.
Bless your heart, sir. No, wait. Namaste.
Off to swim in the great capitalist cesspool.
Attend a service for Neda near you if you can.
Be good to yourselves, and all other living things.
Namaste
People are taught that going out and protesting is something “Nice people” just don’t do. The excesses of some of the Nam era marches embedded this image in a lot of folk’s heads. Police reaction to many demonstrations has embedded the thought of people getting the shit kicked out of them, as well.
I think the past eight years bear witness to what you’re saying. For the most part, marches/demonstrations/peaceful protests were lightly attended, lukewarm events, few and far between. At least, here in the “heartland.” As SD mentioned, we do have a hardy group of souls who’ve been standing at a major intersection outside Lockheed Martin, at bridges over troubled freeways, etc. for the past, oh, six years, plus or minus. Bless ‘em all. P.S. And also hanging outside John Kline’s local congressional office like flies on garbage.
There has to be a very negative visceral and emotional reaction to something and then a subsequent groundswell to get Americans into the streets. It’s hard to predict just what will rise to that level to precipitate that in this country. Most people are not that political, are too concerned with their daily get up and get things done mindset, etc. Many are satisfied and consider that no matter what, this is still the best place to live and things will get better — they always have.
