As Jane noted on MSNBC this afternoon, “Conservatives and progressives are coming together and asking for more transparency.” An example: HR 1207, a call for more transparency at the Federal Reserve, which has bipartisan support, as exhibited by 238 cosponsors from both sides of the aisle.
If you want to stand with those Representatives, and the nearly 6,000 private citizens who support efforts to bring accountability to the Fed, including Dean Baker, Naomi Klein, Bill Greider, Tyler Durden, Bill Black and Jamie Galbraith, you can add your name here.

Yay Jane!
Great going Jane! And that blue is striking.
“F” for eyelines, “B-” for recovery. But yeah the shirt gets high marks.
Eh it’s all feedback for the next performance. Looked good from here.
Barack Obama is showing a disturbing lack of thought about representing those who voted for him.
The Obama administration’s attitude may be different than the Bush administration’s, but its protection of newly-invented executive powers and state secrets is just as adamant and harmful to representative government and public accountability for excesses and crimes.
In the Bush administration, 9/11 was openly described as a political “opportunity” to enact a neocon agenda that would earlier have been laughed at as unAmerican. When an aide to then Prime Minister Tony Blair made a similar observation, she was forced to resign. Cheney glorified non-accountability and made it an art form.
So far, Mr. Obama is following in his footsteps, while occasionally wandering off the path toward greater respect for civil liberties. Mr. Obama’s administration’s attitude is important; more important is what it does.
Yes, thank you Jane for telling viewers what too many in the media refuse to acknowledge, much less say on the air.
If Lady Jane were invited on This Week would George the Idiot Boy and Kookie Cokie take that day off?
what – no wad of gum being chewed? I thought that is how the “pros” did it?
I kid, because I LOVE.
Didn’t we say hereabouts that the next President, taking office after Bush arrogated these new executive secrecy powers unto his office, would never, ever let them go? Bush managed to wrest these powers from Congress, the Courts, and the American people. Obama, on the other hand, took office with all these powers in place.
No one who seeks and attains the Presidency of the United States is going to willingly give up any powers the office has when s/he assumes. No one.
I wonder who’s sneaking into the WH under the cloak of darkness this time? could it be………Rick Warren?……..Henry Kissinger???
It must be someone his base, you know, the folks who still cling to hope that this guy will do something nice for US, wouldn’t particularly like. Have to be pretty nasty to keep up with who we DO know is going in there on a regular basis, like Rahm Emmaunel. Bleh!
Good to see you on Schuster, Jane. You look so cute all the time and then, that big brain……well. Glad you’re on our side.
Nice job, Jane. Well done; your recovery was fine. “Live television,” indeed!
Nor do the corporations give back an dime of what they were allowed to steal or let go of the policies that gave it to them.
That’s why we’re going to get a crap healthcare bill. I wish they’d just leave it alone if they can’t do anything better than the “Credit Card reform” bill. Gad! everything seems to be getting worse not better.
OT DC Metro train collision – at least one dead; massive injuries. Pictures indicating one train atop the other
Congress and the WH are doing their level best to ensure the holders of wealth are protected. If that means selling the rest of us down the financial river, xin loi.
Teddy (#10)- Yes, many people warned about the next president keeping, and using, the secrecy powers and “executive privileges” of the Bush regime. In fact, I had many discussions with my conservative friends, who were all for the Bush power grabs, in which I pointed out “So, how comfortable will you be with a Democratic President using these same powers?” It didn’t compute for them- they seemed to be unable to grasp that there would not always be a Republican President. I wasn’t happy when Bush did it, and I’m not happy when Obama does it. (Not that I’m comparing the two, but still…..)
The conservatives under George Bush were fine when he and Dick Cheney refused to release their visitor logs, but now that we have a Democrat in the White House…suddenly!….they are interested in transparency! And aren’t they lucky they have liberals on their side to go after that brown guy with them!
What are we all hoping to find on the Obama visitor logs? Something so bad it will justify all those who have hated his guts from January 20, 2009 at noontime to this minute? I bet if we find out that there’s nothing of interest on the list, some will spin it to make it look scary, though.
Bush didn’t wrest these powers from Congress. Congress didn’t give a shit when he exercised them!
No President would give up powers gained from prior Presidencies, except one who cared more about the Nation and the balance of power than his/her Presidential power.
Other than talking a good game, Obama has squandered and continues to squander his power and popularity for his perceived pragmatic approach to governance through bipartisan compromise (less is more).
PS The more I listen to John Dean and see his intellect shine through, the more I realize how vain and corrupt our election/selection process is. He, I believe, puts Obamas reasoning power, intellect and honesty in question by comparison.
Sometimes I think Obama is more a supplysider than Bush was…..sometimes.
John Dean, Nixon’s former counsel, or Howard Dean, former DNC chair?
My bad. Johns as sharp a recovering GOPer and legal mind as I’ve seen, but yes, I meant Howard.
