Dave Alvin & The Guilty Women with special guest Dale Spalding – Ashgrove at Old Settlers Music Festival, Driftwood TX, Saturday, April 18, 2009.
What’s on your mind tonight?
ZED
Hi Suz!
hey nahant – how’s the bay area tonight?
Arizona is going completely down the tubes…… bill in AZ senate voting on a bill to allow those with concealed weapons permit…… in bars, university campus, schools …. you get my drift….. It is the infamous Guns in Bars bill written large
Did you know that AZ does not have a cold case registry, if a case is not solved it just falls through the cracks and down the big black hole….
cooling down nicely.. hit 89 today but the natural air conditioner kicked in around 7pm.
judas priest katy – that is wrong on so many levels.
i fear that, unless major change happens, we will continue down the road to 3rd world status
We were in sacto yesterday before it hit 100 today. phew! it was really nice weather. I’d never been to our state’s capitol before. it’s pretty cool.
You guys are still in the wild west days. yow.
hey dosido
Hot! which part of the state do you live in dosido?
Now you know why so many were pissed that Gov Janet left the state….. she WAS our firewall to all these crazy shit…..
Hi nahant, bay area, Jackie Speier’s district, midpeninsula. you? I know twain lives in the bay area too, forget where exactly.
Whoops, I got left in the last thread
i’m so sorry katy. jeez louise, rock and a hard place :(
I’ve been following the minuteman murder story on Dave Niewert’s blog over at crooks and liars. positively chilling. horrible. stay safe, please!
hey beard – how’s the lace making going?
Dosido, I’ve been following it too. Wasn’t Lou Dobbs praising the Minutemen on virtually every night for a while there? (I’ve stopped watching him since I discovered Keith and Rachel)
Redwood city for us… We just love it here… weather is best by Government Test..
Hi Suzanne, It’s going very nicely. I’m working on a new pattern that should go faster than the last one.
Hey Suz.
Heard a great orchestral rendition of ashgrove on npr very recently – synchronicity!
(I’ll check this one out tomorrow on wifi)
hey suz, everyone! well, i been to that old settlers festival many times. many good memories, especially of people jamming all through the nights around campfires. let me know when y’all want to come.
hey sunny – i think you will like it – the harmonica rocks
hey gw – how ya been?
if you find this funny….. the minutemen started at least 2-3 years ago, a bunch of wingnut geezers would go sit on the boarder and patrol. Many talked about the huge checks that went to Gilchrist, people sold their homes, we are talking big checks being donated…..Now this organization is NOT a 501C or legal entity so that they have to file reports on donations and expenses.
Then they go fund raise with congresscritters……. it someone could investigate this…. does Tancredo & old Fred know they were hanging out with people that just walked off with millions without accounting?
I’m glad to see the zed continues to thrive…! ;-)
Aloha Ya’ll from the mtn…! *g*
aloha ct
Heavens! I never watch Lou Dobbs, not even clips posted on blogs with commentary.
I would love to catch more of Rachel, but don’t have control of the TV and forget to record it….gotta get my act together. I do appreciate the clips people post here and on c&l.
anyway, dave n. posted the recording of the 911 call and it was so gripping and horrible. sheer criminality masquerading as some kind of twisted cause.
oh, and it’s been at or near 100 here for about a week and the 10-day forecast looks like ditto.
a group of us are gearing up here to get our water unflouridated. we went on a water treatment tour this morning. next we’ll schedule a meeting with the lab people and the wastewater people and a couple of possible receptive city council members. we brought it up at the 3 what-to-cut citizen input meetings for the budget. we’re spending about $1 million/year to poison people. i’m midway through a letter to the editor in response to a moronic opinion piece today in response to the budget meetings.
Hey CT how goes it? You up on the Mountain and how is the homestead coming?
haha. that’s really the city slogan isn’t it. what a crack up. probably the only thing that beats it is a little town called the City of Industry down south.
dosido, you can go to rachael’s msnbc.com site and watch her show online
The lot is mine already… July I’ll being moving onto it and August I’ll be whaling away with a hammer…! ;-)
hey gw. stupid question: why do you want to unfluoridate the water?
yikes! and woohoo – good for you gw
doh! thanks!!!
You just might be right!! You can keep La La land, too much of everything and the traffic just sucks the big one!!
Great news!! Hope you have some help with all the work you have planned..
Aloha, GW! Nobody seems to be at the Beach house…! ;-)
the reason I ask, gw, is because there is one city in our county without flouridated water (belmont) and all the kids have way more cavities because of it. So if you all do succeed in removing it from the water, just make sure parents know to take their kids into the dentist regularly (as much as anyone can afford these days).
you can download Rachel & KO from iTunes for free…
Damn they are making really great desserts on PBS Baking with Julia…. now I’m hungry
Hah! I can’t wait for the new Meryl Streep movie about julia child…
it’s been fawns-being-born-on-the-block season recently. one behind the next door neighbor’s fence and one three doors down on the front lawn. i got to watch the first one nursing one evening and had been really enjoying all the deer traffic.
until the adults started eating plants they’re never supposed to eat. my plants! now i just want to tell the coyotes where the fawns are so they don’t grow up! drought here is why. but i’m tired of excuses!
been helping my friend out with calming her and her dog after 4 hours in surgery getting the porcupine quills out of the dog.
There’s no true health benefit to floridated water and it’s actually has been proven to have some nasty long term effects on the body…! I’m glad they don’t do it here…
katy – never ever go grocery shopping after watching cooking shows on tv. its worse than going to the store hungry.
gosh, I’m realizing what a dinosaur i am, thinking I have to wait until the appointed hour to watch a show or at least record it, or I lose out. That’s so last millenium!
awww and ouch ouch ouch. poor baby
only if ya want to watch it live. rachel and ko repeat throughout the evening except on friday nites when msnbc airs their pen porn.
Hi Suz, CT, Sunny, gw, everyone.
even dental health? honestly, I’ve heard that cavities go up. but hey, I’m not saying keep the fluoride, just watch out for the teeth…
hey margot – how’s ohio tonight?
Now you tell me…… and $120 dollars later…..
Heh… pen porn! My wife seems to be inordinately fascinated with it… Personally I can’t stand ‘em… About the only time my boob tube isn’t on MSNBC…! ;-)
Howdy, Margot…
Howdy Suz!
hi margot, good nite margot and all…gtg get up with the cows of democracy tomorrow. (that’s a last thread joke for those just joining us).
carry on.
ouch. been there – had to learn that lesson the hard way.
hey kelly – how’s denver tonight?
I agree that there is a direct correlation between the two, but, the long term effects from drinking it 24/7 has been proven to be detrimental… Even on pets and plants…! 8-(
Denver’s good – Waz wundering about katymine; you ever been to Greaswood Flats? Or in Wahweep Lodge up at Page Springs?
I used to play there in the first incarnation of Midnight Blues Band, way back in 1982-5. Matt McKenzie was playing bass then and I was on keyboards.
Caio, dosido…!
g’nite dosido
Well, it’s time for me to suit up and head outside for the next hour…
Aloha to any and all that shall depart the calming waters…! *g*
Hot, going to storm some I hear.
My healed ankle has started giving me warning pangs of weather change.
have fun spotting ct
Outa here
Pups… Nite all..
hey ct! Caught your late note re: Ross. Thx.
Getting curiouser and curiouser.
my ankle does that – a dull vague achyness inside that usually means storm coming. my knee used to do it but the fake one doesn’t seem to be as bothered by changes in barometric pressure.
g’nite nahant
No I haven’t, since I started the software jobs and now the cancer treatment I didn’t travel locally much….. NYC, Alaska, Athens yes but not up to the rim ….
for starters: in the body, fluorine, takes the place of calcium and weakens the bones, creating more broken bones. in one study out of harvard a couple of years ago, they did a careful study and did a comparison of children in cities with and without fluoridated water: the boys (not the girls) in the study had a higher incidence of bone cancer.
two websites to check out with lots of info.
this one is the executive summary from a panel of 13 scientists studying the issue:
http://www.nap.edu/catalog.php?record_id=11571
- a little ways down on the page is a Download Free, PDF Summary
also http://www.fluoridealert.org
our water is fluoridated with hydrofluorosilicic acid which comes from florida from lucier chemical industries. lucier gets it from a company called mosaic, which is a merger of cargill and imc global. they’re in the business of mining phosphates. our hydrofluorosilicic acid is toxic industrial waste from the mining. the environmental protection agency does not allow it to be released to the air, the land or the rivers or oceans.
it is highly corrosive and toxic.
hey margot!
Hi Suze… how’s it going this evening? How ’bout some Ray Benson and Asleep at the Wheel… “Miles and Miles of Texas”? (which describes any trip on I-10)
Evenin’ Pups!
Wow – well let me fast forward in time. No blues, but something like a nocturne, in my own feeble way. A Lizst “Consolation”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..annel_page
I really hope things go your way.
hey jofish – love asleep at the wheel – thank ye kindly
sleep for me. night all.
Hey Jo Fish…. how are you?
oh kelly that is lovely – i’ve heard it many times before but did not know its name. thanks
g’nite gw – nice seeing ya again
Hiya Margot, CT, Katy and everyone else. Watching “Live and Let Die” on Sci-Fi… what a great flick! And Jane Seymour to boot!
Doing OK Katy, waiting to get my furlough notice from the airline… probably by the end of the summer.
oh noz jo – i’m so sorry
Thanks. I appreciate that, especially from you. :)
So sorry that is happening…. what are your plans?
I’ve been furloughed too….. waiting for social security approve my disability claim…… then I will be permanently disabled….
I blame Preznit Bunnypants, but then that’s just me. :-) That, and our shitty union leadership… too much time on the golf course with the CEO, not enough time working for us. Whatcha’ gonna do?
Katy, I might try and resurrect my photo business, maybe do a bit of IT consulting if I can. I do love the flying… but who knows if I’ll ever get back in the cockpit again?
i’m just a pup who gets to play backstage kelly :)
((Jo Fish))
It’s like our worst fears are playing out — in slow motion.
*looking for lemonade to be made from these lemons*
on the bright side we can see more of ya here at the lake jo
Yeah, I might get back into more blogging/writing Suze. It’s been hard with the schedule I have (and they don’t let us poor regional pilots sleep too much … LOL)
Sunny, you are exactly right… sloooooow motion, and the fall seems infinite from a first-person vantage point. Thanks for the hug! :-)
Yes, what Suz said.
((Jo))
i’ve not heard of airlines hiring in a long time. double fork jo.
A little Seger that matches the way it sort of is right now…
seger is summer night music jo. i’ve got my fingers and toes crossed that you are not laid off.
The regionals were hiring heavily over the last few years until the last “gas crisis” when everyone cut their schedules/capacity and thus reduced hiring. Unfortunately, that spate of hiring was what also brought a lot of inexperienced youngsters into the left seats of many, many regional aircraft and is now what’s driving the Senate to grandstand with the FAA and NTSB after the tragic Colgan/Continental Express accident in Buffalo last winter.
I was going to do a post on that crash and the regional industry when there is more information about the accident available to the public.
Back in 2007, I wondered if the CapHill Dems would get some spine, and I put up Led Zep’s “No Quarter” to amplify that point.
Seems today that it was not to be. But I remain defiant:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..annel_page
No Quarter on health care, or DOMA!
am looking forward to reading it when ya do jo.
that you playing?
nice running into Jo Fish….. better than trying to talk in JFK airport isn’t it….
going to head off to bed…… pigged out on the chocolate ice cream right from the carton….. oink oink
g’nite katy
Yes it’s me!
I ain’t kidding around on the music stuff!
yep…. going to snuggle in bed and talk to Elmore….. :) nite everyone
sweet dreams katy. chocolate ice cream – good medicine!!
nite Katy, sleep well…
that is forking awesome kelly – i like your playing very much
Speaking of summer listening stuff… Jackson Browne perhaps?, ahhhhh…
Greetings, gang…
Thanks Suz! One more blogwhore thing, maybe appropriate to Late Night.
Stardust: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..annel_page
night moves
I wonder if this is a sign of recession:
An ad on tv, bluish and full of images of people, and at the end the screen flashes the name of a popular-in-Hollywood religion/cult.
They have to advertise? Surprised me.
hey jaybur how ya been?
Seriously,
I’m getting more confident the health reform debate is going to help produce a better product and it will get passed. I don’t really care whether it’s with 60 or 51 votes as it’s the real world that gets improved.
Dems should avoid using tax code for this. If we want to reform the tax code later it could be very messy to have a lot of social policy tied up in it.
I am concerned about California. What is going on with those people? Do we have any Californians here who can explain what’s wrong and how to fix it?
Everybody say a little prayer for Hillary. She broke her elbow and it requires some surgery. That will take her out of the loop for a few days. And, it will make throwing things at Bill a little harder. Heh.
I listened a bit this evening to a C-SPAN show with George Will being interviewed. It was interesting to hear him make sense on a few things. Does that man not age? With his quavering weak voice he said a lot of indecipherable things. Some of them seemed to indicate agreement with some of the health reform ideas we’ve read about. His response to a lady who suggested that the health insurance biz worked to *deny* care to people really stunned him. That two different plans from the same company would have widely varying costs also confused him. He appears not to live in the real world. But, he did suggest insurers from the Several States should be able to compete nationally. I think that’s good and Obama has asked Congress to set up an Insurance Board of some kind. Perhaps the most curious thing he said was that the biggest expenses for most families had stayed relatively stable for many years, but that health care costs had risen faster than the others. I suppose that explains all the bankruptcies and growing household debt while incomes have stayed unchanged for 30 years. Oh well, we don’t expect much of talking heads. Fixing health costs will help a lot of people and governments. Dunno if that would save Calif. though.
As the stimulus spending hasn’t shown much impact yet I’m wondering if a quick survey of businesses might not give us an indication of what they’re facing and what gov’t might do that hasn’t yet been thought of. Get some feedback from biz and hopefully locate any bottlenecks or hangups that could be dealt with!
On another topic, is Monsanto evil or what?
i like your utube channel kelly
hey markh – i vote evil
So much interesting stuff on the u-toobz. Jackson Browne and The Boss, man I’d have loved to have been there for this.
Thank you Suz – just one more whore post, and I’m out. One I’d like to be known or quoted about is this one: Chopin Etude, A-flat Opus 25, #1.
It’s really one of my favorite things. :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..re=related
Cheers -
k
wow – you make it look effortless – g’nite kelly
a friend, job hunting in a narrow highly technical field that has been hard hit, has been approached twice by “potential employers” wanting to test her personality extensively.
Yep, it was them.
Jo, couldn’t resist this on the same page
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v…..re=related
hey emerson – how’s the deck?
hi emerson.
oh dear, I never thought of that. “Potential employers,” eh? What a scam, at a vulnerable time.
Hi Suz! The deck, she is finished and beautiful. If I wasn’t such a ludite I’d send you pix I just received in e-mails.
Got some shots of the cat too. Maybe tomorrow. How are you?
isn’t that what cults do – prey on people by manipulating their vulnerabilities?
looking forward to seeing them – but we gotta stop calling it a deck – if it has pavers, it is a patio.
Hello Sunny! You have the best handle on the site, ya know.
Is that right? I had a redwood deck for 25 years, but you’re right-definitely a patio!
decks are wood – like your redwood one. you replaced the deck with a patio.
always going for the low hanging fruit :(
Just a couple of poets singing…Great stuff. Probably was a Kerry fundraiser.
Yes. They did that to a friend of mine in the 70s.
the rain in Spain stays mainly in the plane?
sorry – head hanging in shame
i used to drive my girls nuts with that cliff claven side of me.
C’mon! That’s funny!
I’m an information hound with much to learn, so keep em comin!
i swear, i had typed out this long comment about how i think the word comes from the deck of ships – being wood and all – and then deleted it.
Just learned today how to test if the patio (see that) has the proper, but imperceptible. slope without using a level.
how’s that emerson? water?
but where did they ever get deck of cards?
that’s comforting – I’ve been thinking it’s passe’
Hah! I knew you’d get it. My spigot is on the right side so he just turned it on and the water traveled slowly east.
Uh uh. It’s getting harder and harder to find nobility, that’s why it’s timeless, IMO. And, it’s sunny!
from wiki:
figured wood had to be in there somewhere :)
kewl – an easy way to check without having to get out tools
I was just going to post, “you’re researching this, aren’t you Suzanne?”
guilty
speaking of decks, my ex-gf and I used to auction art on ships for about 8 months. Thought it would be fun to travel while we worked. Umm, hardly got off the ship.
Also had a definite “ground hogs day” feel to it.
when i was a kid my mom picked up an old encyclopedia britania set from the 20’s at a thrift store. one summer i got bored and decided to read the entire set.
dang. where did you go and not see?
the choice was driven by this *g*
(predates matthews’ rehab)
That is AMAZING! I always loved vocabulary, so I once started to write and define all the words I didn’t know. Stopped at acc____
Vancouver, all thru Alaska, all over the Caribbean, Panama Canal, Aruba, Bermuda, all over Hawaii (my favorite), alot of others I can’t think of now.
sunny – was this your first comment?
Emerson… yo! the Johnny Rivers is such a classic… do do do wah, shoobe doo be… love it!
must be incredibly frustrating to have been to all those great places and not seen them.
never been on a cruise – am thinking about doing an alaska one… one of these days – and before the glaciers are all gone.
oops – shoulda realized scroogle proxy link wouldn’t post.
Here’s the direct google link.
sunny, can’t get the link and now I’m curious. *g*
That was your page, Jo. I loved that song was I was about 7-8. Liked the Bruce/Browne tune too.
Aloha, Jo Fish! Long time no see…! *g*
sunny put a better link at 151
Looks like it. (how’d you do that?)
Yeah, the Glaciers are spectacular. You’d love that. If you can work it out, try to be on the sea for the Northern Lights show. I’ve never seen anything close to that. I was even hearing synchronized music in my head.
We did actually get off the ship, but usually for a day in each port. Hawaii cruise was the only one that was a little more leisurely.
i used my magic backstage powers and presto chango – your first comment. trick doesn’t work on the old haloscan blogger comments from way back when tho.
Aloha, Sunny… It’s amazing that an Israeli sympathizer would even be considered for the Iranian attache position to begin with, eh? ;-0
seeing the northern lights in on my list of things to see emerson.
one of these days…
Heh… Suz did that same trick to me awhile back…! ;-)
OMG-another thing I didn’t know. Tweety is such a front-running douche sometimes.
But, that makes it more ironical!
i learned it from RBG
What’s spooky is when Tweety gets that warm feeling down his leg…!
Are you talking about Dennis Ross, CT? Is that unbelievable, or what?
every time i think of tweety’s leg getting all tingly, i get this mental picture of a dog well… uhm expressing its reproductive urges on said leg. its not a pretty brain but its the only one i’ve got
That be the one…! ;-)
ah! suz power.
Was around for halo scan, but prolly just lurking.
Finally posted because I started feeling like a voyeur.
I assume the Brain Bleach dispensers are located at every exit and full, eh? ;-)
Unfortunately, I DO remember that one! Everybody–EWWWWWW.
ja, me too. i lurked for 4 months before working up the nerve to comment. that was back in the day when jane was running the place solo and jane was emailing with christy. jane was cutting and pasting email tidbits from her about the plame outing.
and all the power stations. updated a bit ct :)
double crap – that was in reply to sunny
It’s amazing to see Gandhi’s methodology being revived in the modern era… The proverbial shit is hitting the fan for a regime change in Iran… Ain’t it a thang of beauty…?
Suz, that’s the one you research tomorrow and just make the reservation. It’s worth any price or sacrifice.
Well, it must be contagious now,,,
gotta get my teeth fixed first emerson – that way i can smile in the pictures :) 6 years without dental insurance and my teeth have gone to hell.
fingers and toes crossed it works out peacefully and for the best interests of the people and not those in thrall to power.
I’m telling you, NOBODY on the ship had teeth.
70% are under 30. That’s a revolution. We could use one here.
Btw, Khamenei’s sermon at Tehran University(the same U that had a massacre) should be happening anytime soon… Should be very interesting to see what he has to say…!
*laughing* could probably pick up recommendations on procedures and dentists at all the meals.
after dayam near hermiting for several years, i made a promise to myself to get myself back in good running order. teeth are near the top of that list.
after i get the aok that all my working parts are in order and have my smile back, i want to do some traveling.
I’m hoping it gets posted here…
Ya gotta make it over here, ma cheri…! *g*
Interesting they’re pulling him totally off Hillary’s watch. Gotta be a big backstory on this (and we’ll never hear it)
hot dayam, time flies when you are having fun… attaturk is upstairs.
thanks for an enjoyable evening. g’nite all.
last time i was there, i spent the entire trip throwing up. morning sickness with my oldest
True, and ya never made it to the Big Isle…! Nite, M’dear…! *g*
True story. We were at sea on our way to Venezuela. At 1 am, my jaw feels like someone’s hitting it with a sledge hammer. Go down to see the medic and nobody’s there and no telephone #. Go back to the cabin and all I had was a bottle of scotch. Drank half the bottle, pouring it directly on what I later found out was an abscessed wisdom tooth.
Came home and had all wisdom teeth pulled. But, I’ve never felt nerve-shattering pain like that. Never returned to the ships.
yikes! another reason to get the teeth fixed first.
g’nite (poof)
nite, Suz. and thank you.
No way Ahmadinejhad attends that sermon. Probably still hiding in Russia.
Judging by Hillary’s “fall” Ross didn’t take the news so well…
Ayatollah:Cut it out. Get out of the streets. There’s nothing wrong with the count. The law does not allow vote-rigging.
Very creepy and not unlike Rehnquist in 2000.
Good god… This is ridiculous…
It’s gonna get ugly…!
