Not that it got much attention in the reporting but this seemed rather pertinent in the latest NBC news poll:
There was also support for the Democratic push to let people sign up for a public health-care plan that would compete with private companies, one of the toughest issues in the health-care debate. Three in four people said a public plan is extremely or quite important.
Considering this is one area where Obama is somewhat inclined to be, you know, liberal, it is something to support him on, especially since the poll goes on to say when right-wing bullcrap talking points from Frank Luntzville are tossed around support remains prevailing but diminished.
But lest the GOP think this is a harbinger of a comeback additionally bolstered by that "gigantic" anti-David Letterman rally of literally a dozen people, that dog doesn’t hunt – in fact, it doesn’t even respirate:
25 percent hold a favorable view of the Republican Party, which is an all-time low for it in the poll
Good job Newt, Rush, Sean. Keep it up.

Oh, don’t forget the Beck-ster! He’s doing a great, great job of exemplifying Teh Bat-Shizz Crazeee there on the Right…

These are desperate times for the GOP, and its members are responding with desperate measures. Unfortunately for the GOP, most of these desperate attempts to gain members and support are repelling the American people, not attracting new members to a party that could be an endangered species.
Pat Peale does not approve. No sirree.
……………. “25 percent hold a favorable view of the Republican Party”…………..
I never realized there were so many lobotomized people in this country
Don’t forget to wipe the dribble from the Beckster’s chin !
I wouldn’t write them off yet , they still have the politics of fear and fear is a powerful motivator .
Be afraid ,be very very afraid , worked well for them for 8 years. In the right situation, it could work for them again.
it’s important to remember that they control the police in a lot of places too. Minneapolis anyone?
Be afraid ,be very very afraid
And hate. Don’t forget the hate. The second part of what to be afraid of and whose to blame for it.
Good morning all and thanks for the post, Attaturk.
And they’ve stacked the courts with conservatives , so if your rights are violated by said police , don’t expect any help from the system
fear and loathing in the Republican party !
fear and loathing “defines” the Republican party

Rather pertinent you say? Bosh. Only of interest to political junkies. What the folks on Main Street are really interested in is ……… I dunno. Wait. I know. They’re gettin’ rerady for those 4th of July teaparties. It’s gonna be massive. But this health care stuff is waaaay too complicated for them. If they understood the issue they’d realize we have the best health care system in the history of personkind.
Good morning, pups. It’s Collins, Cohen and Kristof today. Ms. Collins says “Barack Takes Sides in New York,” and that the squabble over Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat extends beyond the confines of New York. Mr. Cohen, in “My Name is Iran,” says the issue in Iran now is whether the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, will come to view President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as a liability. Mr. Kristof, in “Tear Down This Cyberwall!” says despite Tehran’s push to block certain Web sites and to evict foreign reporters, a secret Internet lifeline remains through another source.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got lemon and poppy seed muffins. We’re getting a bit of rain right now, and some thunder. The forecast for tomorrow is frightful — temperatures over 100°. The heat index has been up around 110 or so when the temperatures have been in the low 90s. I’m not looking forward to tomorrow… Have a great day.
Know what I love about when they’re spewing their hatred? When they say “And it’s not just the Democrats. The Republicans too. It’s all of them.” Hate. Fear. And bullshit.
I hope your air conditioning is in good working order , stay cool !
wow! Over 100? don’t know if we’ve gottemn that here. Must be close to it. Does that mean we get juice instead of coffee and tea tomorrow? And i love lemon muffins. And poppy seed, too.
Pretty much the same here in The City Beautiful.
Friday will be sunny and hot, with a high near 95. However, a combination of high temperatures and high levels of humidity, will creat heat index values as high as 100.

Not my typo on “create.” Exactly the way it appears in our local rag.
And my a/c is not working. We can run it but it’s leaking. Need to run it and suck up the water. Gotta quote of $850 to fix.
I’m planning on big pitchers of lemonade and iced tea for tomorrow, in addition to hot coffee and tea. Otherwise we’ll perish from the heat!
WE..being….the highly paid media whores,and congresscritters….woking stiffs,not so much
They’ve got nothing. Their argument that medical decisions should be made by doctors and patients rather than government bureaucrats doesn’t hold water for anyone who’s dealt with insurance companies.
There was a standing joke in this house a few years ago. Everytime we’d see a letter from our ins. company the hubby would say that it must be another explanation of why they won’t pay for something.
Our docs spend an inordinate amount of time trying to get insurance companies to approve procedures. At least if you’re dealing with the gummint if things get too bad you can vote the party in charge out of office so the new guys can re-populate the department in charge of denying care.
Yeah. it’s been pretty sticky and ugly up tehre the last few days, right? I could use the cold drinks even at this time. That’s what’s awful You go outside first thing in the morning and you don’t say “Boy, it’s gonna get hot today.” It already IS hot! The lightning has been nasty down here too.
Yeah. Can’t change insurance companies. Most employers don’t give you a choice. When I lived in NJ and had my own biz, BC/BS was the only choice for a small group plan.
One of my co-workers is retiring soon. She’s 57 and can collect her pension. However, she’s losing her insurance which will cost her over $10,000/yr. That’s just obscene.
I’m watching MSNBC. They’re talking about the poll but unless I missed it, they said nothing about public option support. Anyone see that?
best system the world has ever knowed.
btw, turk…. (hey that’s what we call Hedo) de riguer mortis is hilarious. good one.
Iranians are risking life and limb, marching in the streets to get the political leaders to respect the will of the people.
Here in the “Land of the Free, Home of the Brave,” our leaders have been denying the will of the people for years on health care. Where are our hundreds of thousands of people taking to the streets?
Do we need to relinquish our title as the beacon of liberty?
Still is. The company I work for is stuck with BC/BS. Over $850 for 1 person but the other companies were obscene, as if $850 isn’t. I’m lucky(?) to have Medicare and the VA.
25%? I believe Venereal Disease is slightly more popular…
I agree. The Iranians are showing us the way. I’m ready, but apparently part of the problem, since I’m waiting for someone else to organize a massive rally DEMANDING meaningful healthcare reform.
This is the unremarked part of the John Ensign scandal.
Through her husband’s job , she was getting full medical coverage.
So she was a mistress with benefits.
Relinquish? ‘Reacquire’, maybe.
That’s been gone since November 2000.
Last I checked even the Ebola virus gets 26%.
Been 60ish and rainy here in south Central Massachusetts , still waiting for summer like weather to come and stick around !
That picture makes me think that we may have evolved from the iguana, rather than that little lemur-like critter whose fossil was publicised a couple of weeks ago.
Your VA ain’t luck my bro. You eeeeeaaarned it!
Yes. Long since.
The average Americans attention span is far too short for any sustained effort. By now, most would have gotten bored and gone back home to watch their teevees and drink beer
Oops! Sorry. My comment @37 was in reply to sufilizard@27.
Morning all, Yesterday was the first day without rain in forever. Seems like there has been lots of stuff going on in the world that I have missed with attention being paid to Iran, DC and the really important Letterman nonsense. Seems there was a important court ruling in Arkansas.

I saw in the news the other day that Bay Pines VA is once again embroiled in a doctors vs administration fight. One of the docs is a neurologist I knew when I worked there. Top notch. Seems the Chief of Staff, an MD, is not fond of women doctors. Geez, don’t these bureaucrats have something better to do?
Ugh! Maroons! I switched from a MD that was a Jarhead Officer in the Nam to a female doc because, after 5 years of getting ordered around, I remembered I didn’t HAVE to put up with that shit anymore!
Funny you should say that. I was much more comfortable working with female psychiatrists than male. The men were mostly that old MDs are god bs while the females were much more in tune with the world. Got better results with the patients as well.
Well maybe we can start organizing right now.
If we can get all the liberal blogs and non-profits to get together, we ought to be able to organize our own tea parties, except with some legitimacy this time.
I suspect many of us here also visit other blogs and are probably members of groups like MoveOn, Common Cause, et al.
Pick a Saturday between now and the time congress will vote and organize massive demonstrations across the country.
It can be done, but we can’t just sit back and wait for Obama to do it.
it was groups like moveon that decided last summer (without asking the membership) to precompromise away single payer, even though hr 676 had 95 cosponsors, for a campaign slogan called “public option.”
Yea, my shrink is a female buddah head and she’s great!
Mornin’. I’ve got a debrief on Cindy’s visit upstairs.
How odd. The MSM titles say we’re all concerned about the deficit and Obama. This is the same media that pooh-poohed similar concerns when Reagan ran the deficit up by many multiples over what he inherited. A double standard? Pshaw. Perish the thought.
The average American in my income class is far more worried about their job or whether their food stamps will last till month’s end. Nobody’s polling using leading questions about that, though.
Maybe they will if more reporters go under with their newspapers.
Fascism and fascists will always be with us as long as there are choices…insanity? heh
