A few years ago on Air America, Al Franken had a pretty smart riff about what conservatives do when they get caught, as he put it, "taking a dump in the middle of the room."
It goes like this: some wingnut says or writes something offensive. People castigate them for it — "Hey, you just took a big dump in the middle of the room!" Then the wingnut, rather than explain himself or apologize, just kicks up a lot of dust around the dump and says, "No, I didn’t."
Frank Gaffney, who took a dump in the middle of the room last week, is the latest example of this phenomenon.
Let me be clear. The nature and religious context of Mr. Obama’s relationship with his Creator is, as far as I am concerned, the man’s own business. Religious tests for holding public office in this country went out around the time of the Salem witch trials, and I don’t want them to come back.

With Mr. Obama’s unbelievably ballyhooed address in Cairo Thursday to what he calls "the Muslim world" (hereafter known as "the Speech"), there is mounting evidence that the president not only identifies with Muslims, but actually may still be one himself. Consider the following indicators:
• Mr. Obama referred four times in his speech to "the Holy Koran." Non-Muslims — even pandering ones — generally don’t use that Islamic formulation.
• Mr. Obama established his firsthand knowledge of Islam (albeit without mentioning his reported upbringing in the faith) with the statement, "I have known Islam on three continents before coming to the region where it was first revealed." Again, "revealed" is a depiction Muslims use to reflect their conviction that the Koran is the word of God, as dictated to Muhammad.
• Then the president made a statement no believing Christian — certainly not one versed, as he professes to be, in the ways of Islam — would ever make. In the context of what he euphemistically called the "situation between Israelis, Palestinians and Arabs," Mr. Obama said he looked forward to the day ". . . when Jerusalem is a secure and lasting home for Jews and Christians and Muslims, and a place for all of the children of Abraham to mingle peacefully together as in the story of Isra, when Moses, Jesus and Muhammad (peace be upon them) joined in prayer."
Gaffney’s a typical neocon. He talks tough, but when it comes right down to it, he pees his panties and runs home to mommy.

Accusations against President Obama
In October, 2008, Gaffney questioned whether “Obama is a natural born citizen of the United States” and his legal eligibility to be president.[7]

Unfortunately, the DoJ doesn’t have much choice but to defend DOMA, since it’s the law of the land. And the Smelt legal case being pushed as the means to overturn DOMA in the courts has been condemned by no less a legal authority than Laurence Tribe. The best way to overturn DOMA is to have Congress do it, rather than to entrust it to a legal system that has a John-Roberts-ruled Supreme Court at its head.

Can you please explain why Mossad Agents were arrested on 9/11, caught red-handed with explosives AND a video tape of themselves celebrating at the exact moment the first plane struck the first tower (evidencing their foreknowledge and participation)? Can you explain why, despite failing multiple polygraph tests, Chertoff set them free?

Gaffney et al. change ethics with the breeze. If you have ethics and hold them dear, that means you have to take a stand somewhere, and I honestly think they are too afraid to do that.
They’ve never heard of “courage of your convictions.”

Oh well, that’s great Phoenix woman, since Harry Reid has just said without reservation that he has no intent of opposing DOMA and DADT, and that Obama needs to overturn it. And since nothing is happening in the House either, then I guess we should all just be patient and wait for “something to happen”…apparently it’s a hot potato that the WH and Congress toss back and forth at each other and NO-ONE wants to address!
The one thing Obama could do now is to issue a stop release order to put on hold the firing of all of those excellent soldiers like Lt. Choi who are still being forced out of the services. Another one of his broken promises!

Yes, and thank you Blue TX for showing us again the quotes from the speech given by our Pres. I shudder at the thought of how W would mangle the sacred history that joins Jews, Christians, and Muslims….Obama of course can speak with knowledge, truth, and grace. And may it be that therein lies an opening, the reality, as Rodney King said for “us all to just get along.” The gaffe may be that he thinks he is hurling such an insult.
