these outrageous examples are probably just the smoke. imagine what these folks are saying to each other in private or through their private e-mail. it’s not that they don’t realize the implications of modern communication tools. the brewing racism that pervades their world inevitably seeps out into public if only in drips. why should a staffer apologize when a congressman told them the joke?

Heh, the series that wouldn’t die. It’s one of those exceptions in British television that goes well beyond its normal life cycle of 2-4 years. British television is more successful for being shortlived as a rule. This is the failure of American television apart from the lack of acting and writing talent as they never know when to quit a successful series on a high note.

Interestingly enough, there are isolated pockets in eastern Maryland and the Carolinas where people speak with a British sounding accent of the westland (rather than south or up north).

My most winning argument in any racial discussion was about 10 years ago in Phoenix, AZ. I had been to a concert with a friend and I treated for breakfast at one of the only all night coffee houses. I commented on the fact that there had not been one black at the concert and that he was the only Mexican. He told me that Arizona was NOT racist. I pointed out that being 6 foot 6 inches tall with 3 foot long arms might sort repress it around him.

Walked outside and there was a table of black singers that I had seen the night before at a jazz hall. I went over introduced myself, told them I appreciated how they mixed harmony in their jazz in a way I’d never heard before, explained about my friend and I’s argument

When he came out, called him over and introduced him. Then I asked them how they saw racism in Arizona. One of the bigger women said flatly, “I’m big, not as big as you, but no one in my life has had the guts to call me a n***** to my face until I checked into my motel last night. If your friend ever wants to see me sing again he’s going to have to go to some place civilized.” Then she pulled out a card and scribbled something on it. It said, “comp this guy into any show I do.” Saw her in LA a while later and she and the band allowed me to take them out to that Dennys on the corner of Sunset and Vine.

The hysterical part is that I’m an redneck racist from the hills of the Ozarks, I just like music. Kept going to the jazz clubs in Phoenix, people from the bands would come over, chat, buy me a drink, tell me that they had heard of me. Everyone in the jazz and blues community considered me a flaming liberal. I helped R L Johnson load out one night when he was a little over the line, his sideman lit a joint and handed it to me, R L acted strange, the sideman said no he’s real, my sister knows him. Music, music, music. Decide what you like and ride it.

I don’t care what your poppa told, I don’t care what your momma told you, I don’t care what the teacher told, I don’t care what the preacher told, you are not getting out of here alive. The greatest gift is the gift of enjoying life, if you fuck it you just wasted the whole point of it all.
There are no extra points at the end for not doing just exactly what you enjoy.

If you screw up, lose your car in a poker game and are stuck dead broke in a town of 50 people in Nevada, there is at least one person who will feed you and keep you moving on. Have faith in the little people, the big ones could not care if you live or die. If we don’t help each other we are screwed.

Conservative Political Correctness allows for whites only to pooh-pooh and laugh off any racist comments as overreactions by hypersensitive diversity do gooders while breaking the poutrage meter whenever someone with brown skin says something mildly challenging to their white supremacist views.

It’s a win/win for them all the time.
