No kidding. Girl is turning Lefty angst into gold, and sending some strong cues for ‘10.
I just love seeing the front page littered with the BlueDogs detritus.
There are so many impressive people here at FDL. I’m a singer of Jane’s praises and then I remember to honor Marcy,Christy, bmaz,Eureka,Suzanne,Suin,et al, it’s amazing the talent that has been drawn to this site.
I’m so grateful for the conversations and information.
Oh, newt,
June in Cleveland is THE most beautiful month of the year, really! Green lawns, beautiful flowering trees in May and flowers in June. And, my birthday to boot!
Mr. CE and I have inherited the ancient Le Baron from son Jack CE — left in the garage when he graduated from college and now lives in glory in NYC. We charge it up every summer to drive with the convertible hood down while eating ice cream…
Oh CE.. some folks opened up the best homemade ice cream parlor in ES this year. I walked in for the first time on Friday night… it was filled with local people… many who had been there once or twice that day already. Everyone freely admitted their addiction.
I tried wild cherry and bought a pint of coffee home.
An al-Qaeda associate captured by the CIA and subjected to harsh interrogation techniques said his jailers later told him they had mistakenly thought he was the No. 3 man in the organization’s hierarchy and a partner of Osama bin Laden, according to newly released excerpts from a 2007 hearing.
“They told me, ‘Sorry, we discover that you are not Number 3, not a partner, not even a fighter,’ ” said Abu Zubaida, speaking in broken English, according to the new transcript of a Combatant Status Review Tribunal held at the U.S. military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
President George W. Bush described Abu Zubaida in 2002 as “al-Qaeda’s chief of operations.” Intelligence, military and law enforcement sources told The Washington Post this year that officials later concluded he was a Pakistan-based “fixer” for radical Islamist ideologues, but not a formal member of al-Qaeda, much less one of its leaders.
When the current crisis is over, the reputation of American-style capitalism will have taken a beating—not least because of the gap between what Washington practices and what it preaches. Disillusioned developing nations may well turn their backs on the free market, warns Nobel laureate Joseph E. Stiglitz, posing new threats to global stability and U.S. security.

Seriously, of the things we will fund until we are fully in the red, schools and health care and roads and agriculture and transit and other stuff people actually use and need – not even on the list. Vikram Pandit will simply win every time.

Citi bill included a notice they were cutting his line to an amount equal to $10 over his outstanding balance.
It’s the most readable (for non-lawyer types) legal post I have yet seen here. I have no idea as to the strength of the legal theory, but bmaz sure does.
Nino’s habeas opinion seems to set this up nicely. Although I wouldn’t put it past him to create novel legalisms to sidestep his own opinion, this is juicy. As per bmaz:
One last thought. It appears to me, whether consciously or unconsciously, Judge White has fashioned his opinion with a very determined eye to having it stand up on appeal, and specifically in the Supreme court. From the outset of his discussion, White framed it in terms of the auspices of Hamdi v. Ashcroft, 504 US 507 (2004). Hamdi was one of the very first opinions from The Supremes reeling in the unitary executive acting under Article II and the AUMF. The really notable thing about Hamdi, however, is the separate opinion authored by Nino Scalia berating the Bush/Cheney detention and treatment of American citizens in the war on terror, naming Padilla expressly.
Hi Newt, Eureka and all. You are very cheerful on these glum subject. I did a personal best in stroke count getting across the bay and back this overcast evening…the sun peeped out at the last 5 minutes for a hot molten golden and then fused the sky with a golden pink glow.
I wouldn’t say cheerful, but we seem to have less wind in our faces with a few things that are dear to us.
Jane is absolutely kicking ass on the supplemental, and a torture victim appears to be that much closer to having his day in court, with John Yoo in the crosshairs.
Balls to the wall…pedal to the metal…rock the house. Indeed Jane is taking on Rahm at his own game. The pups are getting stoked too. I will make more call in the AM.
I’m curious about when and why Fork split UC-Berkeley for Chapman. Would like to know what behavioral psychologists have to say about moving 400 miles away from Judge White and the 9th District?
I think it is tomorrow, but I can’t cite a source. Just another thing stuffed in the mental calendar, along with all manner of clutter.
Do not quote me.
Thank you for the update. It is nice to see a decision that supports constitutional law. Obama is giving away the farm…cut medicare Medicaid by $300 billion…block mal practice lawsuits. Bright spot tighter regs maybe. Someone has his puppet strings. And they are playing him like a piano. All the exageration are to push him right…seems to be effective. Policy set…steady as she goes full steam ahead all engines.
In the battle between fight and flight…
If he is the coward that his legal judgment reflects… probably should not go there.
One thing is for sure – he knows the rest of the story. Whatever abominations he has authored that we haven’t even dreamed of yet – they are eating at him now. I just hope he has a long, thoughtful spell in a small space, where he can reflect on them.
Sleep well ES… now that Rahm has his undies in a twist complements of Jane….he is cussing and flipping out…I love it. Thanks for the interesting thread.
Agree. The cowards are always the first to start talking. This won’t be like Scooter Libby. Fork will throw everyone under the bus. I just hope he is guarded around the clock in the event the neocons prove to be a threat. I put nothing past them.
Then let him think about his choices in life for awhile.
On one of Jane’s columned recaps, I was surprised to see Nadler voting yes. Also, the other names on that list seemed to be predominantly members of the Black Caucus. What’s that about?
It’s a pretty mashed up Congress – Democrats have yet to accept that they are in the drivers seat and have no clue how to unite around anything. I guess.
I’m out. See you guys in the AM for Jane on C-Span’s Washington Journal at 8 eastern. She will be discussing, surprise, the supplemental.
“Yoo might be having a bad day when a Federal judge starts his analysis of your immunity claim by citing Alexander Hamilton from the Federalist Papers. And that is exactly what Judge Jeffrey S. White of NDCA District Court has done:”
That is a great post abd decision and some artful legal opinion by BMAZ. Lot to read but good food for thought. Maybe Yoo losses his chair at Sproul Hall UC Berkeley…keeping everything crossed…justice by the backdoor.
hey Eureka
Someone needs to dedicate Warrior to Jane at the netroots nation dance this year. *s*
Hi Newtonusr
No kidding. Girl is turning Lefty angst into gold, and sending some strong cues for ‘10.
I just love seeing the front page littered with the BlueDogs detritus.
Me too… Does a progressive soul a lot of good.
And I expect I will be listening to Mighty Wands for the rest of the evening
Hi you all. Nice choices, ES.;)

Margot! Hey, isn’t this lovely Ohio weather great!
Ditto.. very impressive & great people..
Hi Margot, Open Hope and Christine E!’
Sorry… had a net boot.
I’m shopping for an old car tonight.. on Craigs list.
been 4 1/2 months since i drove.
Hey ES,
Make sure it is NOT from a state that uses salt on the roads, like OH.
Lost all track of time. Seems like you broke that wing last year.
hey chris
was that weather comment snark, or is it really nice there right now?
Felt like the first day of Summer here.. I should have turned on the AC.
I wont .. that’s very good advice.
Volvo’s keep tempting me. I’m a sucker for Volvos… but the good old ES Volvo mechanic retired.
And then there is a little Isuzu pup truck… just screaming to take my kayak up river. /s
Oh, newt,
June in Cleveland is THE most beautiful month of the year, really! Green lawns, beautiful flowering trees in May and flowers in June. And, my birthday to boot!
I say, pick-up truck…my Ford gave me years and years of loyalty.
Hi ES. EXCELLENT videos. Like the Warhol portrait feel to Jane’s Warrior. And another great song by Sim Redmond Band. Trumpet and sax does it for me.
And Openhope has it exactly right.
Agreed.. the truck is first on my list. If I buy a Volvo I will just want to take a cross country trip…and now is not the time. /s
Hi emmerson.. I like it when a pop dance song catches my fancy. Not easy to do..and the vid work was fun.
Just discovered Sim Redmond too.. evidently they have been around a while.. from Ithaca NY. Hope they do more quality youtubes.
If Jane is the warrior.. then we are the Magic Wands.

Of course everything tastes better with the top down.
Goodnight All — work and sleep call.
good point
nite chris
I had to reboot too. Hey hey NSA, get off my tubes, OK? jeez.
Hi ES, Chris, yes it’s lovely here!
Cappuccino crunch ice cream has appeared at the farmers market. It’s my first stop…. and often my last. (blush)
Heh… I just savored a few spoonfuls.
I wondered when this would happen.

How much do we have to give them in order for them to
cut and rundeclare bankruptcy?Stiglitz thinks that America is giving capitalism a bad name.
How much do we have left?
Seriously, of the things we will fund until we are fully in the red, schools and health care and roads and agriculture and transit and other stuff people actually use and need – not even on the list. Vikram Pandit will simply win every time.
Yes we are.
“Oops” just doesn’t cut it.
Agreed.. include broadband.. and healthcare if you don’t earn over 8.25 an hour.
I would like to hear Oops in a World Court room. /s
That would be Rumsfeld. I can just see it.
Stuff happens, you know.
Dedicated to bmaz’ good news entry today. Also known as fork yoo.

Rummy will refuse to sit too.
I thought it was the other way around.
Andrew is amazing.. I really want to see him perform someday.
Monster post. Scalia will have his hands full with White’s opinion.
So do the Chinese. /s maybe they will prove us wrong.
Sure hope it’s as good as it sounds.
me too. My nephew saw him in SF recently and they let him take pix. I’ll put them up soon. That pedal recorder is pretty amazing.
Visiting with a small merchant-friend today as he opened his mail.
Citi bill included a notice they were cutting his line to an amount equal to $10 over his outstanding balance.
Said he generally paid in full monthly. Ugly.
It’s the most readable (for non-lawyer types) legal post I have yet seen here. I have no idea as to the strength of the legal theory, but bmaz sure does.
Owning us pretty much proves all that they might want to prove.
I can’t wait to see that backpedaling act! Scalia knows things are bad when Thomas tells him, “No way, Nino.”
Who needs to earn money when the feds will just print it for you… and let you write your own reports.
I got a kick out of reports that young Chinese laughed out loud at Geithner during a speech over there.
the other lawyers seemed optimistic too. Needed some good news with the events in Iran. Now THAT’S reality TV.
Nino’s habeas opinion seems to set this up nicely. Although I wouldn’t put it past him to create novel legalisms to sidestep his own opinion, this is juicy.

Bof A popped me for $15,000.00 reduction. Looks like the banks strategy is take the public money and run. Leave “Main Street” sucking eggs.
I wouldn’t say cheerful, but we seem to have less wind in our faces with a few things that are dear to us.
Jane is absolutely kicking ass on the supplemental, and a torture victim appears to be that much closer to having his day in court, with John Yoo in the crosshairs.

The Treasury is printing money for their crony capitalist…wow. Un real
Hi bigbrother… the water is calling me. With any luck at all I will be adding some light paddling to my recovery / therapy by next week.
They need to make a padometer.. a pedometer for counting paddle strokes. I’m easily distracted in nature. /s

If you have some bucks check out the pedal cayaks no wing no probleme.
Will the big supplemental vote be tomorrow? I’m going to be afk all day dammit.
Oh I want to use this wing.. get it back in strong limber working order. just going to work some long pools for a while… nothing adventurous.
I think it is tomorrow, but I can’t cite a source. Just another thing stuffed in the mental calendar, along with all manner of clutter.
Do not quote me.
I heard that it may not even come up if they don’t have the votes and we’ll know first thing tomorrow.

what I was afraid of.. got that impression.. probably from one of Jane’s posts this evening.
I’m rather surprised Cohen from Memphis is still undecided.
In the battle between fight and flight…

It’s late here… must turn in.
Good night Warriors.
I’m sure he has district-wide concerns. Some of them we are just not going to get back in the boat.
nite eureka

The Chinese can afford to laugh at the silliness of Geithner, and Team Obama in general. Unfortunately, we cannot.
