The office of Rep. Dennis Kucinich has confirmed that he will vote against the supplemental. That makes 11 Democratic votes to block the passage of the package that includes supplemental funding for the war in Afghanistan, the IMF European bank bailout and the Lieberman suppression of detainee photos amendment. A total of 39 are needed, which means 28 more to go.
As Kagro notes over at Congress Matters, how will the cosponsors of the State Secrets Protection Act (H.R. 984) justify voting for the Lieberman amendment?
Surely anyone who thinks a that the government ought to have to prove its case for exclusion of certain evidence on national security grounds by presenting arguments in camera to a federal judge is going to have a hard time believing that photos that other federal judges order released should be retroactively buried by an act of Congress.
Maybe somebody should ask them. Let us know what they say with the Whip Tool.

Just called Lloyd Doggett’s local office. Unfortunately with the Texas rethug gerrymandering, I’m no longer in his district which the assistant so kindly pointed out to me ;) but said he would pass along my opinion.
Well, I just called Travis Childers’ office and registered my opposition to both the Lieberman amendment and the IMF provisions. Childers is, unfortunately, a Blue Dog, but I did mention that if he voted for the supplemental in its current form, he would be hammered by Republicans in 2010 over the IMF provisions.
My thinking is that if there is enough opposition to the supplemental from both the people opposed to the Lieberman amendment and the people opposed to the IMF funding, the Administration will have to surrender on one of those points. So what do you guys think Rahm et al will be most willing to surrender on: the IMF or publication of torture photos?
Good ol’ Dennis, you can count on him.
Upon further reflection, I think the IMF Funding might be an angle that could get my blue dog rep to oppose it. I’ll have to give that a try.
The DC phone for Rep Filner, Bob [CA-51] is incorrect as listed in the post. The correct phone: (202) 225-8045
BTW, Cindy Sheehan will be in Austin this week for her Myth America Tour (”There she is…”), speaking at the First Unitarian Universalist Church (4700 Grover) Wednesday evening at 6:30 pm.

Rep. Schakowsky isn’t going to run for Obama’s old Senate seat. Hopefully that means she can better resist the pressure from Rahmbo to vote for this POS.
I called my republican critter too.
Excellent. Yep, I think we can pick up Blue Dog support on this one. So don’t be shy, call your local Blue Dog.
We’ve got some interesting stuff on the IMF coming up.
Jane,
I just got a call back from Henry at Xavier Becerra’s office. After a direct and polite conversation, all I got was that Becerra is undecided.
For anyone who needs the info:
Congressman Xavier Becerra’s number- (202) 225-6235
Representing District 31 in California
Did you perhaps, for “old times’ sake,” contribute to his campaign?
That’s the wedge I’m using for folks to whom I contributed, through ActBlue or Blue America, but in whose districts I don’t reside.
I figure those $25 contribs ought to be worth SOMETHING.
That’s a trick question, right?
Whichever is the worse alternative for the country [right now I’d say it’s suppressing the photos] that’s what Rahm will choose [i.e., he’d surrender on IMF, in exchange for keeping the photos secret].
Jane, I asked on a prior thread on this: if our Congresscritter is not on the list, does that mean he/she is a lost cause — i.e., don’t call?
why are we not using the toll-free numbers?
1 (800) 828 – 0498
1 (800) 459 – 1887
1 (800) 614 – 2803
1 (866) 340 – 9281
1 (866) 338 – 1015
1 (877) 851 – 6437
I’ve given Lloyd money in the past, but not lately. Good idea to start again though..
Thanks Jane! Wouldn’t it be great if we could count on OTHER DEMOCRATS to do the right thing?
The line is busy for Van Hollen (D-MD).
Just got off the phone with WI blue dog Ron Kind’s office, they’re not sure how he’ll vote yet.
I’ll tackle DeFazio after lunch, though I’d be shocked if he voted for the supplemental; he’s arguably one of the most progressive Reps on the West Coast. Wish he was mine actually. I’m stuck with David Wu in Oregon’s 1st District. Quite honestly I’d personally love to run against Wu, but he gets overwhelmingly re-elected due to that (D) next to his name, and the district he’s in.
OT–”GOP senators warn Obama on health care” (from Yahoo Finance)
Michael CorleoneObama in response:“Senator(s), you can have my answer now; nothing… and I’d appreciate it if you would pay for the license.”
Who are GOP senators (totaling forty and shrinking, maybe even before 2010) to be warning Obama about anything?
spoke to cong hinchey’s office.
his rep explained there is complexity built into the bill which is making hinchey lean toward supporting it as an attempt to support the admin in the parts of the bill that expedite getting out of iraq.
when i mentioned it would also pay to escalate what we are doing in afghanistan, was told that’s where the complexity lies. apparently they are still working on the details of the bill.
more when i know more.
I see a major sea-change on the Group W bench as a result of this news.
I couldn’t find them. Thanks, katy!
Dennis Kucinich would have made a fine president, because he’s such a great Congressman!
Kucinich rocks.
