Tonight I am getting an assist from my –much cooler– daughter EmilyMaay. This is what they listen to at her high school.
When the President Talks to God:
Peruvian Cocaine:
According to Em, "Immortal Technique is the shit!"
Why yes, we discuss politics at the dinner table. Why do you ask?

em’s right – immortal technique is the shit.
i’m gonna need to get baby girl to update my musical database.
Teh awesome shit!
I must be getting old–in my time, “the shit” would have meant bad.
bad is bad
Wow. This shit is gooooooooooooooood.
Ah, the clubs in the 80s. Soooooo bad. Went well with the shit.
Trouble is, Immortal Technique is preaching to the choir. Our politicians aren’t listening and wouldn’t care anyway. There has never been any intention to win the “war on drugs” or more importantly as a matter of health policy of reducing drug abuse. They are subsidized and elected to maintain the status quo.
Early night for me. Stupid gout meds make me sleepy. Take care all.
g’nite dr (pause) dick
G’nite. You should stash some of your meds for when you’re feeling better.:-)
then the shit became the shizzle…
It’s beginning to be talked about. That’s a start.
OT: did you hear Gordon Brown rename one of the D-Day landing sites “Obama Beach?”
i don’t understand how so many people accidentally fuck up his last name. i could understand stumbling on his first name but his last is not that hard to pronounce and it is similar to that of one of the states.
I saw that earlier. Brown’s in so much trouble politically that it’s a wonder he can talk at all. This “expenses” scandal has really shaken the govt.
Would that be AhWannaBeAllWhiteABama? Lookin’ at it that didn’t come out right. Supposed to be a play on Alabama. Sorry. blerg
yup – i had figured his last name would, at most, be mispronounced to rhyme with alabama.
Brown has a lot on his mind, like his party getting their asses handed to them and likely being out of a job soon. Plus he was reading off a teleprompter, so if you’re not staring directly at it I can imagine how Omaha might trip somebody up.
What irritates me are the people in this country who routinely, sometimes intentionally, sometimes not, mix up Obama and Osama. I’ve even heard Obama surrogates do it on the talking heads programs. Imbeciles…
i have no doubt that it is done on purpose – and every time i hear it, i immediately figure the person speaking is an asshole.
I agree with that.
Immortal Technique has been on my daughter’s top ten for quite a while – we have a lot to learn from the real hip hop.
hey siun – i had not heard of them before.
That’s usually the case, although the U.S. has the dubious distinction of being one of the few countries on Earth where much of the populace does not even qualify as monolingual.
I like Immortal Techniques.
One of my sons recently introduced me to Bill Hicks and his Rant in E Minor, very funny political humor. (Not safe for work)
I’m gonna send “When the President…” to 1 of my programmer friends at MNF to see if I can get it some air play.
Yah, RIP Mr. Hicks.
Nephew’s girlfriend flew home today…… didn’t know she was mormon…. been my regular self around here and really spouting off about Tiller’s murder…… ah oh….. nephew says it was a family emergency but my sister said they broke up…… nice kid, he doesnt deserve this……
Mormon’s don’t know what to do will healthy energy.
oh crap….
All the Mormons I’ve met (excluding those who ring my bell, who are quickly sent packing) have been very nice. I don’t agree with their religion (or anyone else’s) or the LDS position on issues like marriage equality but as long as individuals don’t try to force their views on me, we can get along.
my sister said if she was that sensitive then she does not deserve to be with my nephew…..
Anyone watching the Tony Awards? loving it….
i was gone today and am so far behind i’m not watching tv at all. still going through my inbox and trying to catch up on the lake. 2 book salons today!
You know, I have found that to be true. I just don’t understand how they can believe all that made up stuff. The patriachial notion drives me to distraction.
naw, its the secret magic underwear that squicks me
Oh god. I didn’t know it was a secret.
i get a page error with that link selise
http://www.birsesver.com
secret in that no one is to see it
They NEVER talk about the secret crotchless undies.
Yeah, what use is magic underwear if it doesn’t endow the wearer with superpowers? Superhuman strength, ability to fly, invisibility, etc.
Seems like they may have pulled that magic underwear idea out of their ass…
On that note, I bid thee all goodnight.
My secret underwear trumps your secret handshake.
g’nite ratfood
but do ya know the secret woid?
Earl (spelled oil) is the secret woid.
earl’s gotta die
Somebody please stop me before I comment again downstairs. I am about to cross the line with bad language.
consider yourself stopped mary – concern trolls should never be fed
Thanks. I needed that.
I’m right there with you sister. Let us stay up here, shall we?
Sometimes I wish I could TP a house or two again. Did you guys evah do that?

that’s funnier. dayam sneaky parents
Hey, does anyone out there know anything about angioedema? I have been having it since Feb. Now they are telling me it is secondary to something else.
never heard of it mary – have ya googled it?
This comment just made laugh so hard that I had to let you know. Cheers.
Yes. It is what happens when you have an allergic reaction. Face swells up. All kinds of things. Hives. Joint pain. I have to take antihistamines and steroids for relief. The doc said sometimes they never figure out why.
Did you just delurk?
which comment?
and welcome.
I believe I did. I was trying to recall if I had posted once before, but I think that may have been my first post. What an auspicious beginning.
well good for you (and us). welcome – if ya have any questions, please feel free to ask away.
and there is a reply button on the bottom right of each comment – if ya click on it then everyone knows what comment you are responding to.
“naw, its the secret magic underwear that squicks me”
Sorry. I thought I replied to the comment. BTW, the local office for the LDS, errrrr Mormons, is in the same building as the company for which I work.
Welcome! How long have you been lurking?
Yeah. Sorry. I’ve read enough book salons to know better. I honestly thought I did click on the reply button to Suzanne’s comment. Newbie bad.
But thanks for the welcome.
thank you – if the page has not finished completely reloading, the reply will not work. if ya click on it and don’t get the pink bar above the submit comment box, wait a few seconds and try again.
and oh my stars – well feel free to think of their secret magic under-roos at work.
Andioedema
Mayo write up on this….
Mayo Andioedema
At least 4 years. Maybe a bit longer. I do donate, but not much of a poster.
Rethink your apology.
In a week or two, you will be walking some other newbie around the block.
And welcome.
Thanks. I love Mayo. We used to get the Mayo Clinic Proceedings.
They are thinking that the primary cause is either Lupus or Rheumatoid Arthritis. We have autoimmune junk in the genes.
it has been my experience that once ya delurk, it is hard to go back to being silent.
looking forward to reading what you have to say.
oh hells bells, looks like just about anything can cause those worse than hives reactions mary mcc.
the umm.edu link katy gave said that it can even been genetic.
late late nite upstairs
some of us may go silent for a while but when we come back we cannot shut up!
I thank you for the welcome. I hope my comments (when I make them) will bring something to the table. However, I am a little intimidated by what others I have read (in posts and comments) bring to the table. I’m just a liberal living in Texas who takes part in the process and hopes things will get better.
And, of course, I’m also a guy who gets a big chuckle out of Mormon’s magic underwear comments.
Thanks for the welcome. Cheers.
looks like the pups moved to the new thread upstairs jg – please come join us
On health care reform:
There are some large granularity issues people need to consider before getting into the weeds.
There’s the issue of whether it should all be private insurers or all government run (single-payer) or a mix (the ‘public option’ added to private insurers).
There is the question of a mandate. Should everyone be required to have insurance or should it be entirely optional.
There is the question of funding. Should everyone pay 100% of their own insurance costs or should some people receive a subsidy or should all care be funded by everyone’s tax dollars?
I would suggest that on the side of caution we should also consider (not just the benefits or what sounds great), but what negative consequences could (or would) occur as a result of that choice. What happens with a single-payer government take-over of the entire health care insurance system? What happens if a mandate requires *everyone* to buy insurance? Etc.
Perhaps related to that is the idea of transitioning from where we are to something more ideal via one or several steps. In this issue a lot depends upon what you would consider ideal.
I tend to prefer incremental change to avoid unexpected consequences. ymmv
During this fight with Harry & Louise’s employers it’s clear the insurers want everyone covered (a mandate) with them free to charge whatever they want, so they can make much more profit. The Republicans want to prevent too much change or any change which doesn’t somehow redound to their benefit.
What they might also consider is that if they can avoid Obama’s first option, then they might get a serious public call for single-payer — which suits many people. I think it would be a disaster for us to make one big jump to that. What happens to all the people working in the health care industry? What of all that industry’s assets? Talk about major change.
What I’d like everyone to consider is another kind of answer to the question of ‘who pays?’. Instead of the single-payer being the taxpayers (through a government run single-payer plan) or the compromise system where insurers keep current customers and perhaps get some more with taxpayer subsidies there is the other extreme of forcing the insurance and health care industry to absorb all of the uninsured while not being allowed to take in any more money — they become the single payer for all those newly insured customers!
They (the whole industry of health care plus insurance) already charge us twice what most countries pay. It’s leading us to a major disaster. It’s unsustainable. And, we don’t particularly like those folks for putting us through all this. So, why not let them pay if they can’t find a way to compromise on anything?
Single Payer ==> insurers
In the political world you don’t get anything for free. If you’re belligerent and can’t compromise then the public can turn against you and force you to pay a political price. So, as usual, be careful what you wish for. You might get it.
