About Firedoglake
Hi Suz! Off to watch the toon.
*walking to diving platform edge*
armstand back double somersault tuck position (no splash, ‘natch)
g’evening pups – how’s everyone doing tonight?
Oh NO, diving platform…I did this as a camper!
hey ll
hey ce
Band of Brothers
took the whole family to dinner…. to my favorite Turkish restaurant…. everyone love it, my nephew ate everything on his plate…..I took 1/2 home… had a great time…… except when the chair became way too hard… don’t have enough butt fat to pad me……
Outstanding dive Suz. The toon was hilarious! Is it just me, or do I not remember Wile E. Coyote speaking much? I don’t recall, and I don’t remember seeing this one before.
hey katy
ll iirc this is the only coyote cartoon with roadrunner where he speaks. he does speak in a few of his toons with bugs bunny.
Yum, Turkish food…sounds like a nice evening out!
katy – i would not worry about that temporary lack of padding – it’ll be back
Thanks Suz, I liked the voice characterization — sorta reminded me of Hannibal Lecter and his fava beans and chianti, when he was describing the roadrunner ;-)
I loved the roadrunner cartoons as they were from home….. the Coyote and roadrunner are indigenous to AZ so as a kid I thought they were local…..
Beep Beep….
i wanted to shop at acme.
Roadrunner was always a big fave with us kids; hell, any WB toon was fine with us. Nothing like them.
ya try sitting in a hard wooden chair for over an hour and trying not to fidget…the waiter (who knows me) said that next time ask him for one of the throw pillows that is used in their traditional seating area with low sofas and tables that look like huge serving trays on a stand…..
i have the same problem with hard surfaces. a pillow is a great idea katy.
sat morning was not complete without cartoons. when it was prempted for some stupid sports game, kids were pissed.
Went out to dinner with one of my best friends earlier, and we had this and margaritas…yum!
how many roadrunner flavors in that?
lol, several I’m sure — just not things like the pistachio, fudge, Yorkshire pudding, etc ;-)
musta been one of them south of the border roadrunners since it came with margaritas instead of martinis
true ;-)
hiya Suze & Pups!
Katy, luurvvved the rabbit jokes in the last thread.
LL, saw your New Kitteh pics, what a sweetie!
Efes Turkish Restaurant
hey ndfg
what’s blooming?
Well we finally saw some sunshine today, after a few days of a ton of rain; was bummed though, my little nephew’s baseball game was cancelled because the field was still too wet :-(
((( ndfg ))) Hi! Glad you got to see the kitteh pic :-) Herself is, at the moment, all sprawled out in that favorite chair, looking like a big pile o’ fluff ;-)
used to raise rabbit fryers years ago….. a lot of the ethnic restaurants loved to them…. belonged to a co-op, had a delivery system and was making a profit and that damn driver decided to take all payout from our rabbits and then disappeared…..
I was sitting there with 25 does, 5 bucks and around 125 fryers waiting for the truck to pick them up……. OMG I had rabbit coming out of my ears…. it is a good thing that several nurses I worked with loved rabbit and bought them…
Oh wow, that looks great…I’ll have the doner kebab please :-)
the farmers market starts this coming sat and i can’t wait. i hear there is a lamb guy there. neither of the grocery stores here carry lamb.
Same here.
There was a little roadrunner that would rap on the window at our house. He was interested in the reflection but I thought he liked us.:)
hey margot
I love farmers market season too Suz. Can’t wait for the corn and tomatoes.
Hi Margot :-)
i’ve not been to this one and am really looking forward to it. the markets up here start much later than i was used to in ca. the felton farmer’s market started in spring and ran through halloween. this one starts the 2nd sat in june and ends the end of sept.
watching a travel show that is about a expedition cruise of northern Alaska…. north of Nome and into Russia…. amazing to see the puffins which are not seen in lower AK
Well I really should get outta here, one more day off before an onslaught of 7 straight days of work (5 days on the shift, 2 days training for the upcoming new computer system, oy…) Thanks Suz, and g’night all!
beep, beep.
Finally a dry enough Sat to trek to the farmers makt. Great day – tons of beautiful asparagus, rhubarb, cherokee purples (my faves), two varieties of thai basil (who knew?)and in a burst of insanity bought a half-gallon on not ultrapasturized whipping cream in a glass bottle.
Hey Suz
LL, when I was a kid we lived in DC on Capitol Hill for a couple of years. I had never been to a farmer’s market before. That was really foreign to me…tomatoes that tasted good? I had never had one before, so delicious! And there were possums and other animals hanging from hooks. Freshly baked cakes, eggs, cheese, nuts, honey, anything you could ever want.
hey sunny
g’nite ll
Still here for a sec — Margot, was that Eastern Market by chance? Fantastic place.
I don’t know. We were a few blocks from the Library of Congress, and this was SE part of DC, so maybe so.
The Oregon U-pick farms are spectacular….. all kinds of berries, peaches and then the truck farms….. there was one around the corner and down the road near my house…… starting with strawberries and ending with pumpkins….
also the family we sponsored to get settled there. It was an undocumented family who had been living in their car for 5 years (several kids were conceived in that car). Their oldest boy was in the same class as my oldest.
There was a group that helped this family, I was the medical person….. Momma’s first thing “no more babies” …… they lived in a mobile home, worked the U-pick farm. The oldest boy was offered a scholarship to Oregon State and became a teacher….. I hope I had some part in that….
He thought he was making good money picking veggies. Told him…. would you rather work outside rain, heat, etc…. or he could work inside in an office and earn more money…..
Betcha it was. There was a devastating fire there a little while back, and they’re rebuilding I hear. But yes, you could get just about anything you wanted there, and more!
Ok, I’m gone…good night everyone :-)
Two other things about the farmers market and I’ll quit:
Got to pet a 6 week old calf named precious – somebody with slow food brought her. And *raspberries*!!!
i’ve not seen any upick farms up here in diary county. gonna have to see where the closest one is
I’m heading for bed too…. have a nice book I’m reading (finally) and usually I read less than a page before I drop off…
i’m planning on scoping out everything they have – already have set a budget on what i can spend.
g’nite katy
nite LL. Eagerly awaiting more kitty pix…
Good plan. Was carrying too much cash… didn’t leave til it was gone :(

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYQfWJNWe3I
doing ok emerson. headed over the coast range tomorrow into portland/vancouver.
how’s the bay area tonight?
Good evening all.
I hate to barge in with heavy shit….but…it’s apparently what I do in life.
What’s on my mind tonight is a young Iraq Vet friend’s courting suicide as an option to living with PTSD. I totally dismissed the warning signs and out right statements, ” My PTSD is getting bad.”. His wife’s statements, “We’re okay, but his PTSD is getting bad.”. I chose to believe he was as strong as he is, without the affliction. Is it an affliction ?
I’ve had him on my mind for weeks…this Son of a different mother…and by pure chance, my husband picks up a weekly, independent local newspaper and there’s Evan Knappenberger’s story of his PTSD meltdown and the asshole criminal charges the police, who know him as a war resister, charge him with.
Everyone’s okay. All’s safe. And I’ve started an Iraq Vets Against the War R&R fund. Obviously, Evan is our first priority. By the way, he’s given me permission to use his name on this site. He’s a co-founder of the Iraq Vets Against the War in our region.
Back in the bad old days he protested Stop-Loss on the DC mall. Actually set up a tower and stood guard. Tower Guard.0rg. Truthout posted his protest as well as other sites. That’s where I first saw his picture and immediately felt,” I know him…”.
Then I did an anti-war rally in our town and called Whatcom Peace and Justice Center to ask for a real Iraq vet to speak to our young people. They sent Evan. Karma.
I will not let him go down!!!! Fuck that!
I booked a great beach cabin for R&R Immediately . Which I absolutely couldn’t afford. But I knew I could get 100 people to donate $4. If not, I’d get 200 to donate $2. Turns out, it’s much easier to raise the money than I thought. People want to help. They just need someone to say,” Hey, give me $2, here’s what I’m doing.”.
Sorry to make this so long.
i’ve had this from band of skulls
(((openhope)))
so, how do we get the $$$ to you?
Like that! New band?
i think so – was one of the recent itunes single of the week (so it was a free download) – the utube page said it is from their debut album
That sounds like fun. Its beautiful there. Bay was wonderful. Went to check out some material for a deck that I want to have built fast. Found a guy that says he can do it in a couple of weekends.
You know, you can’t get money to me because I’m a renegade. I only do cash!!!
But you can donate to Iraq Vets Against the War. They’re legit. You would really be impressed with the young people keeping that organization vibrant.
And so many of them are dealing with PTSD at the same time they’re trying to help their fellow soldiers. And re-enter life as a civilian, without military benefits. The Army under Bush “Clipboards” soldiers with bullshit demerits that ultimately eliminate their benefits. No VA medical, no college, no shit!!
tis an excellent reminder of the need to remember iraq vets and other similar organizations when donating.
Good thought. Strawberry crop flunked and gone, but tons of raspberries and peaches about …and the Donvier is frozen.
Oh joy
Ice cream it is – some now, some later.
Okay. I know the organization and they do great work. I lost a cousin to PTSD in Nam. Actually, he came back, but that war killed him shortly thereafter.
Bush, Cheney and all the other neocon pricks hate veterans. Just fodder for their video games.
Yeah, like there’s enough money to go around!! I’m racking my brain for a way to raise real money without resorting to the Repug “Hookers and Blow” fundraising activity!!!
Hey Suz! What’s shakin?
hey newton
Good plan :-) Gonna need a viral invite, enough cream here for prolly a hundred of those suckers..
Eliminates their benefits? WTF! I hadn’t heard this. I will donate to them and thanks openhope, please give Evan a hug for me.
this benefits thing denial is new to me too openhope. perhaps you should do an ox diary to educate others about this fuckery.
Yeah, that’s the Bohemian Club. Every summer, they head north of SF and pretend they descended from royalty by indulging in various orgies of the senses. Fits right in with their human sacrifice rituals.
aren’t they tied in with the skull and bones secret society that boosh (and other war criminals) belong to
There’s a place in Berkeley called Brennans that makes a great Irish and an even better Mexican coffee. They use some special heavy cream and the barkeeps wouldn’t tell me where they gpt it. Delicious!
Have you heard of the burn pits? That alone would give a conscious human being nightmares for a lifetime. Evan told me about them 2 years ago. The true horror hasn’t been unveiled yet.
Evan doesn’t have medical benefits. Neither does Doug Connor, an incredibly gentle man [nurse] who’s crime was asking for anti-bacterial curtains at Walter Reed. He was also on Truthout. Another amazing young man. West Point, military family. Cast out for asking for a simple necessity for extreme burn victims. Lots and lots of extreme burn victims.
We need to not lose focus on this War. We’re already forgetting we’re in 2 illegal wars. I hear Afghanistan justified now as a “legitimate reason” to invade and kill innocents because of something 19 people who were actually Saudi’s did. But they lived in that country so we should just keep the killing going strong. It’s a righteous killing. God approved.
yes maam. There are actually 2 or 3 different branches. The criminals are the heavy hitters that have to be brought im by members. Then there are the “front” Bohemians, which are the locals who still think they’re frat boys and more or less harmless.
If you look around, you can spot quite a few skull & crossbones flags flying. Although it’s supposed to be a secret society, they are getting pretty brazen about showing their superiority to the masses.
They’ve taken to calling it “the good war.” Sick bastards.
I really like psychological thrillers, but “Hand that Rocks the Cradle” creeps me out every time I see it.
tis just another booshism – opposite speak
no child left behind
clean skies
its all about the branding and not about the issues
Ad why shouldn’t they? The masses adore flags and power figures, we all think we’re going to BE them.
That was what hurt me the most during this episode. I CHOSE to be willfully ignorant of a situation bigger than my comfort zone. I got “red flagged” in social awareness. I failed.
Yep-that’s Rove’s specialty. And make sure you call the opposition fascists before everyonel sees that you clearly are. And Dems just let them get away with it.
Of course, the media used to point out things like that when they cared about journalism.
hindsight is always 20/20 openhope. you cannot demand perfection from yourself. ya learn the lesson and do not repeat it and use the lesson learned to help those hurting in the future.
now you know what a cry for help sounds like.
Margot, I’ll give Evan a big hug from you! His wife needs one too. She’s an amazing young woman. I’ll give her a hug from you!
Thank you, Suzanne.
I had to read it in a newspaper. That’s harsh.
I’m wiser than I was 2 weeks ago. For now.
Tomorrow? We’ll see how far wisdom goes.
Goodnight. Thank you all for being here.
Sweet dreams.
g’nite openhope
I’ve always thought the same about the “American Dream.” Everyone will be rich one day-right.
I think you turned that situation around very well. AND you’re getting the word out in various vistas. Most people do nothing, so pat yourself on the back-or have an Irish coffee!
g’nite openhope.
’bout time for me to head off also. g’nite pups and thank you for letting me hang out with ya tonight.
Thank you, Suzanne.
openhope, please do write a diary on this. We haven’t heard enough about treatment of vets since the Walter Reed horrors surfaced.
Perhaps we should be talking about tying the administration of congressional (and govt officials and employees) benefits more closely to military benefits.. Goose and gander.
