Walter Trout – They Call Us The Working Class (But We Ain’t Working Any More).
What’s on your mind tonight?
Hidden Unemployed
25 million can’t find enough work
Parttimers not counted
Ordinarily I don’t like being first in line, but…hey Suz! Nice tune tonight.
edit — darn, second in line…
it’s just me…..
hey katy and LL
those numbers are not encouraging – jen is looking for work again – she was let go and there is not much out there at all as far as jobs go. lotsa folk looking.
I’m more than happy to have you first here Katymine, it’s nice to see you around here :-)
Ouch Suz, sorry to hear about Jen :-( I hope she finds something soon.
Thankfully everyone is employed here except me……
I have a question…. when you are approved for social security disability you have to wait 24 months before you are eligible for Medicare?
was a wild and woolly afternoon in oregon this afternoon
Our new Gov accepted the stimulus package and the phoenix area is construction central, all along the 101, light rail and so many other projects…..
Yikes! That is scary when trees start toppling.
our local news stations went live around 3:35 when the nws issued a tornado warning for southeast of salem. stayed on the air doing weather until 7pm.
From the article it sounds like that is unusual weather for OR — must have been so scary for people.
yup ll – hit portland just as the commute was in full swing
Suzanne thanks for the link….. Jon has a neighbors tree(cherry) that was literally laying on his roof…… He hates cherries….. cherries in his shoes, all over the floor of his front entry, cherries all over the roof of his car which eats wholes in the paint…… and now the new little camp trailer is there….. OMG who knows ……
I have been sleeping on the sofa. Am going to bed. Ron and I will be on the CBS Early show at 7:15. Single payer!
g’nite mary mcc – can’t wait to see you and ron on the teevee
Yay Mary! ((MMc)
Will look for you early in the AM, mary mcc!
hey margot
Oregon can have storms at any time of the year….. falling trees and branches are common….. I remember driving home as the mayor closed the city because of a storm…….. dodging falling fir trees and wanting to pick up supplies like kerosene and candles finding the shelves picked clean…
The issue is that when they build in Oregon, they select cut a few trees to put in the house and they found that you can’t do that….. specific trees help others stay up…… wind comes and boom….. right down the middle of the roof
mary mac has an ox diary up about the appearance
great tune, Suz. And a little too true. Hi everyone-estrogen city here tonight1
wind gusts of 71 downtown dont help those trees either. luckily, it has been a while since it rained so the ground was not saturated
hey emerson
I”m going to get a tree cut down here. It is a volunteer mulberry tree, nice shade, but way too close to the house. After that one pine tree fell on our roof, I don’t want trees near at all.
edit–hi Suz, LL, everyone.
Hey Margot, hey emerson :-)
whoa-how did Token handle the thunder and lightning?
petered out before it hit me – he does not like wind and he does not like lighting and he especially does not like thunder.
i, on the other hand, love storms (as long as i am not outside in them).
hey LL=Nader is taking apart McAuliffe on Democracy Now (recorded yesterday). Says he bribed him to drop out of the 04 race.
same here. gotta have a fire though.
Hiya, Suzanne, pups! Finally had time to watch Obama’s speech. Is he the only US president to say the word “Palestine” since Carter? Bush certainly never said it. I can’t remember Clinton saying it either. “Palestinians” or “Palestinian people,” but not “Palestine.”
Anyone see my buddy Max Blumenthal’s video he made in Jerusalem last night? If not, here’s a link.
Same here Suz, I don’t mind them too much. Don’t like to be driving in the heavy rain, but as long as I’m inside I’m good.
We had storms roll through last evening, and I was wondering how my cat would react; Callie did not like them at all and would always hide. This new one was all nonchalant.
hey et – how’s alaska tonight?
The storm I was driving through had winds over 100 mph…. it was straight winds from the west…… early December we had the wind storm, people were just getting back together and in Feb we were hit with the flood. My parents had 120 inches of rain at their house that month, Tillamuck was 8 feet under water and my own town – Oregon City was under 12-15 feet of water. The river went from 13-14 ft to 45ft….. the falls disappeared…. My own PCP’s office and the post office were under water….. Mt Hood snow went from 150 inches to less than 50inches….. ask anyone about the 1996 flood…
i heat with a wood stove so i have one going most every night. i love having a cozy toasty fire going while it is storming outside.
Saw something about that the other day (maybe even in the WaPoo? can’t remember for sure). Very interesting!
that the dec 07 storm? i heard it was sustained 60 here and had gusts of 120. nasty storm that was.
neverminding.. missed the date at the end.
That was pretty disturbing.
Ms ET’s up in Fairbanks training for her new job. It’s 87 up there, and sunny. Here in Wasilla, after several nice days, it is rainy and windy. ET Jr and I hauled down a 24-foot ladder a little while ago, concerned about the wind gusts. We’re painting the entire outside of the house.
Brava!
that’s a project – how long ya figure it will take ya?
Max emailed me that he got lots of stuff he couldn’t even put on the final YouTube, and I’ve never seen him blanch before.
Wow ET, 87 in Fairbanks today? We barely hit 59 here in NoVA all day!
hey sunny
Yep that it is…… I was stuck on the metro bus trying to get home the day the flood started….. it was 3.5 hours for a normal 45minute commute…. people were packed in like cordwood and some of us were not sitting….
Got to know the people I rode the bus… IRS agents, appellate judges, city and state workers…. some became some of best friends….
Nader is absolutely tearing him a new one. Says McAuliffe bribed him to drop out of 19 states in 2004. He says McAuliffe wqnts to follow the Clinton Arkansas path but thru VA to the White House. At least that won’t happen.
I’m about halfway done with the trim, and rebuilding stuff that needs it, like broken rails or rotten deck wood. The cedar siding will go real quick. I’m shooting for early July to finish, because I still have to re-roof the garage/shop.
and that’s when the the single tastes best.
We didn’t even have summer last year. We just finished one of the warmest, sunniest Mays we can remember, and June has started out nicely enough.
I’d say no chance in hell of that ever happening. McAuliffe will probably always be around in some political capacity, but definitely not in the WH unless he ends up as someone’s press secretary or something.
when i was expelled less than 1 month into my sophmore year, part of my punishment awaiting the school board hearing was painting the exterior of our ranch style 3 bedroom house. and the trim. my dad took the first week off from work and worked me to the bone and then my mom took the second week off and didn’t ease up.
i have a major serious dislike for painting the outside of a house – inside is not a problem but i do not like painting the outside.
I love painting things. Boats are the hardest, because you always have such messes of corrosion to deal with before the real painting starts. I had a similar painting experience with my parents my sophomore year in HS. Took a while to get beyond it, but I’ve become a pro level painter, inside and out, on shore and afloat.
ET the weather has been weird here…. temperatures way over 100 in early April…. up to 107…. there were 18 days that month over 100 which is very unusual…
Any more kitty pix? I wanna see more f/k/a Taffy..
weather seems to be forked up all over katy. raining when it doesn’t – not raining when it usually does. temps all over the place. storms are worse than they used to be.
Hiya, katymine! Hope you are well and resting.
i don’t mind the actual painting – its all the dayam prep work that has to be done – and usually takes longer than the actual painting.
no chance is right. The guys exactly what I hate. A slimy glad-hander that looks at politics like it’s one big funny game when people are struggling to survive.
Hi Sunny! No, nothing new the past couple of days. It’s actually hard to get a pic, she’s so curious and moves around so much.
Tonight she was on a tear and playing with her toys, and I grabbed the camera to try and take a short vid; of course that’s when she decided she’d had enough and was just sitting there beside one of the toys. Cats just do what they want ;-)
Katy, the temps here have been cooler than normal. Less humidity too. I’ll take it but it’s weird.
I’m with ya on that emerson; don’t like that guy. At. All.
Been raining here for months. Last year we were in drought crisis mode.
i can rarely get a picture of bailey. i grab the camera and she poofs
you are in the south eastern part of the country? i remember the georgia drought from last year.
132 million people were working non farm jobs in April. 132,000,000 jobs
They’re funny that way Suz ;-) They either run and hide, or run right towards you and ruin the effect!
hey bb – how was your row?
Well I suppose I could share this shot from a few days ago; she was all tuckered out after I’d taken her to my vet for a check-up.
going to the vet is hard work ll – bet she would tell you that if the vet gave you that same exam, you would be wanting to curl up and snooze
Was thinking of one of the five best albums of all time today.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqycvOTtnFU
lol Suz, true!
oh yeah blood sweat and tears would be on my list too – along with morrison hotel from the doors.
Awesome! Wow, I haven’t heard that song in I don’t know how long…
She looks more than a little like our Powder cat.
Oh that’s a great shot ET — a very regal cat!
One more (I can’t resist)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gd2LSKL9Yjs
I was up last night till 2 pm.
From 1pm till 2pm there was constant lightning, HARD rain, and thunder. Even some light hails.
TOTALLY off the wall for Central Valley in the summer, we NEVER hardly get this kind of plains states weather.
It was SO bitchen!!! I was back and forth from front door to back door to follow the biggest surges!
Like a kid at a science fair . . *G* No winds, though. Sounds like Orygon got all we had and more. Ours was mostly warmer stuff up from the equator, monsoonal style warm air clashing with existing on shore coastal air from the delta breezes . . . like I said, we NEVER get this stuff. Clouds everywhere, cloud to cloud lightning, and every few minutes, you could see a lightning bolt in the clouds, as opposed to just the flashes of light.
It was wicked! *G*
hey larue – that storm moved up here today and was wild – link upthread
Groovin’ here emerson…thanks!
*swoon*
bst’s love you more than you will ever know is a great forking tune
Anyone up for a little Otis?
argh, I forked it up…stand by
oh yeah
crap – that was for ll at 82
Trying again — Otis
How about the line:
“…I could be president of General Motors, babe
or just a tiny little grain of sand…”
things have changed, huh?
otis – another one gone before his time
A very regal serial killer. She just brought in her third bird of the day. Mooch, the other cat, is chewing off a shrew’s head down in the den.
Wonderful! thx
the more they change, the more they stay the same
Yep Suz, today while driving around I heard his version of “A Change Is Gonna Come”, and wondered what he’d be doing these days if he were still with us.
lol ET, good to know they’ve got their instincts intact!
yw Sunny, she’s a real cutie!
SHAKE!!! WoooHooo!!!
A-W-E-S-O-M-E
Wow. Looks like a Vogue cover.
sweet bb – didja make the row at sunset?
I’m getting psyched to go see Jackson Browne at Wolf Trap on July 22…
Pretty much the same drought. It’s over *g*
That’s some disturbing and sad, sick shit. Thanks ET for sharing.
We have to know these things . . . in order to be fully informed, no matter hard and sad it is to know.
Brutal. Ignorant, violent, stupid, and brutal.
How sad. They don’t even know their history or their leaders, but flaunt what little they DO know.
That pix is sensational! Avedon?
Nice!
Here’s one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koJEpkskeBs
jealous sigh
Suz, I waited a few days too long and was only able to snag lawn seats — but that’s okay…it’s sold out now. It’s his first and only appearance at that venue.
because! another lovely tune margot.
along the soft toonage.. billy vera and the beaters at this moment
edit: vega changed to vera
aint nothing wrong with lawn seats (unless ya have a bad back). sometimes the lawn is the place to be
That is beautiful harmony. I guess I really won’t get to see them on this earth…
Oh i like! Never heard him before.
No bad back here, but our July weather is always iffy — had hoped to sit in the pavilion. But we’ll rough it :-) Lawn seats are awesome actually, and NRBQ comes to mind for a great show seen from the Wolf Trap lawn.
Al Kooper was the schizz back in them days, be it with the Dylan session for ‘Like A Rolling Stone’, Super Session, and the Moby Grape recordings . . . Grape Jam.
Only Electric Flag rivaled the horns and mix of instruments that the first BST album had with Kooper.
And then, there was also Chicago Transit Authority . . .
And Tower Of Power.
And Lydia Pense and Cold Blood.
Horns, rock, and the mix.
Heady, heady times then.
Thanks for the hit, Emerson . . .
saw cta open for jimi at the oakland coliseum arena – before they had to change their name to chicago.
they brought down the house with i’m a man.
Yikes, I need to split — almost 3 AM here! Thank you Suz, and g’night all!
g’nite ll
The tide was in 2.5 feet at 4PM so I got in the bay a little after…sunny lite breeze went to the inlet and back. Good form read some bio mechanics on sculling and am getting my hips involved so my body stays centered more or less. That put me a little lower and more directly inline with the oar stroke for better power, balance and a quicker recovery.
The hips move the spine more naturally and you get flexibility instwad od stiffness. It it pretty amazing what the sports kinesiologist have learned.
Then I went to the local gov meeting, a bit of a downer, but the juices are still flowing. It was a perfect day. And the evening sky was total artwork. 10PM clouds formed a blackhole. 8PM their was patterms over the Morros…we have a series of small volcanic mountaibs moving East to SLO Town..above thwm it was a watercolor canvass parallel that the clouds bled into the sky…very spiritual display by Mother Earth.
Met a lot of nice people today.
Nice! saw him about a dozen times in the 70’s. He was always excellent-so was David Lindley. Wrote a term paper in college comparing him to Ralph Waldo Emerson. Wrote it the night before it was due. The prof asked if he could make a copy and show it to other classes.
I’m thinking, “I don’t think it was that good.” Re-read it and sure enough-Jackson was more like Thoreau…
that description makes me wish ya had a camera with ya bb – wudda loved to see that sunset
Tower of Power, now you’re talking, Larue! Perfect name, too.
One of the greatest love ballad angst ridden heart torn pieces of work ever written and sung.
Al Kooper . . . and don’t forget Blues Project . . *G*
Cuz, I Can’t Keep From Cryin . . .
And there’s a few more of that Blues Project that stand time’s test.
Cheryl’s Goin Home
Flute Thing
Steve’s Song
Wake Me, Shake Me
Kooper . . . he was EVERY where back them days . . . *G*
Yeah, Billy Vega could bring it!
Tower of Power, Funkadelic, Average White Band. Oh yeah…
such an accent when talking at the end – not what i expected listening to him sing
(i typod his name and corrected it – vera not vega)
I was lucky, in ‘71 I think, at Winterland.
CTA, Boz Scaggs. I was 18 and in high school.
I took an ‘older college woman’ I’d met camping in Memorial Park off the coast. That’s another story of itself how we met . . .
So I’m there, with an ‘older woman’, and CTA is doing ‘Only The Beginnings’ and Boz Scaggs is doing ‘I’ll Be Long Gone’, and I’m thinking, this is SOOOO romantic and she was thinking that too. Deep kisses on the floor, but lust left unresolved, alas. Sigh.
Suz, you and THESE people in here sure know how to draw out the old memories from the music.
Always a treat. *G*
Emptywheel had some good threads today I am going back…to read what Marcy had to say as well as Jane’s interesting perspective. See if the State department and the pentagon can back up what he said.
“I’m a standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona
Such a fine sight to see.
It’s a GIRL my lord, in a flat bed Ford
Comin back to take a look at me.”
*G*
marcy has been on such a tear – can’t wait until she is doing this full time. holy moley is she gonna stir up a fuss.
Along with Elvin Bishop, they were the house band for Winterland and Fillmore in the late 60’s early 70’s.
And they backed up (the horn section) anyone else who need them, too.
When Butterfield brought Better Days to Winterland in ‘72 I think it was, with Amos Garrett and Geoff Muldaur, TOP horns were there . . . that was some FINE music that night . . *G*
take it easy… oh lardy what a song larue…
MAGGOT BRAIN!!! *G*
Parliment/Funkadelics! *G*
A Clinton I was ALWAYS into! lol
Yep, one of the best . . . and still done at some camp jams with banjo’s, mando’s, fiddles, gits and dobro’s and dawghouses . . . *G*
that’s right. It was Suzy Vega!
i missed going to see them last spring when their tour took them to the salinas fairgrounds. didn’t have the money, house on the market etc. still regret not going to that show.
and billy vega is a dj in the san jose area on kfox 98.5
I was hearing about those shows in NY (1972) Some of them came to the Fillmore East, but I never same them there.
Yer kwik on the draw, gal . . . originally that was done with dem Eagles when Jackson Browne was with the group.
*G*
‘Sheah, but you had Quicksilver Messenger Service at Fillmore East (covered half of the QMS album Happy Trails), AND you had Allman Brothers, Live At Fillmore East . . . that’s some serious picking, hoss. *G*
shhhhh dont want it to get around that i’m a fast woman (lmao)
Suz, yer gonna have email . . . I got a doozy . . . and thank Emerson for the hits! *G*
Ok, it’s a little rough, but check out the company . . *G*
“How long have I been sleeping?
How long have I been drifting around
through the night?
How long have I been dreaming I could
make it right
If I closed my eyes and tried with all my might
to be the one you need?”
Girls swooned around him.
larue, the nsa is making their copy first.. still waiting to get the email :)
whoops – gonna have email
well, at least now the nsa knows its gonna be a big one *g*
Allmans were always around. I saw Quicksilver sometime around 69 and they were on.
east coast music was the same but different than the sf music which was the same but different from the music coming out of la.
I’ll tell you a Kooper story one of these nights (there’s an early Eagles tune)
we got all night emerson.
attaturk will not have a post tonight (he’s on vacation) and this post will be up all night until early morning swim posts.
tell us your tale emerson
absolutely Suz. In La, I loved the doors (Soul Kitchen), My first SF album was probably Cheap Thrills. NY was Dylan’s town. for example.
cheap thrills – loved that forking cover art… still have the vinyl
So confusing (dither).
What happened to Thersday?
thers is outta town also for a week. it is june and the time of year that everyone seems to be going outta town.
I Never Knew There Was An East Fillmore Super Session!
season of the witch! which reminds me…. i know larue saw this but emerson, don’t think you did
Well, it’s just that Kooper is a close friend with Jimmy Vivino, who’s a great guitarist and organ player with Conan O’Briens house band. His bro Jerry is their sax player and a good friend of mine. Anyway, when Kooper turned 65 this year, Jimmy and others arranged a big b-day party for Kooper at BB Kings in the city. Everybody said it was unbelievable. Most new Yawkers would tell you Jimmy V is the best guitarist in NY. And somebody taped a piece of it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7R1ld_T-twY
Janis, and Big Bro . . . San Carlos Circle Star Theatre . . . I was a wee lad in tow of my older sis.
Can’t recall the year, but DO recall that Blind Man, and the cuts off of Can’t Buy A Thrill were done. Ball N Chain, too.
But Blind Man still stands out . . . damn she had some pipes even doing back up or harmony.
Course, Ball N Chain was all hers. *G*
cool, I’m flexible. Just easily confused *g*
Yeah, the Super Session lp with Steven Stills on git, not Bloomfield . . . I never, ever knew they did an East Coast Super Session, and Bloomfield played the song with Kooper . . . and I thought I knew my shit . . lololol
dang dood
bet ya wished ya cudda gone – that’s some fine ear candy
Hey! I get a credit on the Suz Site! Alright!!
totally forks up my days of the week – it don’t feel like a thersday without a thers – nor sathersday.
:)
she sure could sing. she’s on my list of wish i cudda seens
oh crap – that last was for larue not sunny
Jimmy’s something else. Get this, everybody compares him to Mike Bloomfield! That includes Bloomfield’s brother. And when I was in 8th grade, I auditioned for the Vivino’s band (singing) I did 2 songs (Follow me down-Doors) and hell-if-I-remember-now. They said, “Why don’t you grab a beer and siddown. LOL
Ok, before I get to listen and watch this clip, this is just WAY too bitchen to learn!!
Yer a hoss Emerson . . . And DAMN THEY ARE DOING ALBERTS SHUFFLE!!!
You SCOUNDREL you! *G*
Albert’s Shuffle . . . when Bloomfield picked that, it was out of this world. And I’ll stack up his version any day with any others . . . Bloomfield was the schizz . . . in his time, his work was insane.
That boy almost hits it note for note, though, I gotta say! *G*
From Dylan’s work, to Work Song, East West, and then Electric Flag, Super Session, Grape Jam, and more.
He was insane. And the original Albert’s Shuffle he did, damn that was sweet . . . and NO one can touch this.
NO ONE! *G*
Last show I saw at the Circle Star was Luther Van Dross with a hot date. Now Luther is dead, Circle Star is gone, and so is the girl.
Dude, ya get more than credit, yer KILLIN it tonite, and I thank ya for doin so! *G*
alberts shuffle is a bitchin tune larue. look at that vinyl – that album has been played a lot
Hoss, you got yerself a song in the making there . . *G*
I’ve always loved the liner notes from Super Session (I’ve got 3 original copies on vinyl) which state somewhere on the back:
“The horns were added as an after thought.”
For those not in the know, those nights were recorded bare. With just the drums, bass (Harvey Brooks was SUCH a hoss) and Al Kooper, Bloomfield one night, and Still the second night.
And in the studio, mixing down, they brought in the Tower Of Power Horns, as an ‘after thought’.
And they make the project. They perfect it, and make it one of the best vinyl’s ever done.
And they were added in post live performance . . . go figger. *G*
I thought Bloomfield played on one side and Stills on the other, Could be wrong, though.
Damn, I KNEW that was Tower of Power!
Well, my memory ain’t what it used to be I guess.
I’m not sure the Grape Jams had Bloomfield on it at all.
But what I DO know and have vinyl of, is old Real Live Adventures Of Al Kooper And Mike Bloomfield.
Lots of confusion in my mind as I haven’t had a turntable for 20 years, and the vinyl’s all sit there and I don’t pull them out anymore to look up this stuff . . . .
But danm, it’s been a hell of a gas chatting about it all . . .Thanks Suz, and Emerson and others for a wonderful walk back once again . . . a total treat. *G*
And now, for my FINAL trick watch me pull a . . . . . *g’thud*
Nah-don’t like country. * G*
g’thud larue – a pleasure as always trading music memories with ya
Yes, yer spot on, but they also recorded different nights, too . . .
Bloomfield had ‘insomnia’ and couldn’t make the second night so Kooper was turned onto Stills, and called him and he showed up . . .
And again, if there was an EAST coast part of this all, it might explain why Bloomfield was hurting on top of his insomnia and junk habit . . . coast to coast in too short of a time woulda messed him up royal.
Hence the door opened for Stills in SF on the second night . . .
And now, really, I gotta g’thud . . *G*
thought you might know that one. *g* You named that one in 2 notes.
’bout time for me to go g’thud myself.
g’nite pups and thanks for letting me hang out with ya tonight.
like that g’thud, Larue.
g’nite Suz, Thank you.
my pleasure
and a reminder, no attaturk post this morning
g’thud
And you’re still fucking peasants as far as I can see.
Good morning, pups. It’s Bobo and Krugman this morning. Bobo has produced “The Chicago View,” in which he says President Obama’s speech in Cairo built an idealistic facade on a realist structure. And this gets to the core Obama foreign-policy perplexity. Prof. Krugman, in “Keeping Them Honest,” says health reform will fail without serious cost control, which will require a fundamental change in the way the insurance industry behaves.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got a big pan of cornbread that just came out of the oven. I’m particularly glad it’s Friday. This was one of those ghastly weeks where you work twice as hard in order to get half as much done. I’m glad to see the last of it. Have a great day.
Needed coffee in such a big way but i already got my own. First thing. But ever since I moved South I’ve taken to cornbread. Thanks much.
70-somethin and —- who gives a shit in The City Beautiful. The Lakers put a serious hurtin’ on our boys last night and my head hurts.
But we still believe in Magic. Really. I swear.
I know those weeks. For me it’s interruptions, do-overs, mistakes, “can you do me a favor Beerfart? It’ll jst take a minute.” Right. This week wasn’t really one of ‘em for me. No more so than usual. Sorry to hear that yours was, Marion. Glad it’s over for you.
Morning, Marion. Might be just you and I here so far.
Or not.
Hey, hey, hey! What about my 183????? After might horrendous night I drag my ass out of bed to get ignored? Well, I’m leavin’. In a huff, no less. Yes sir.
[huff]
[slam!]
my horrendous night. not “might”
I got good news/bad news (mostly good) on the job front yesterday. I took a civil service test a few months ago for a job with a hefty raise, but then an even better executive job came up that I really want. Well, then I started to sweat, thinking that if I didn’t ace the mid-level exam, it might hurt my chances for the exec job. Scores came out yesterday. Out of 80 test-takers I rank 2. I’d have preferred 1 but I’m delighted with my rank and think it should help me.
It’s the interruptions by the boss (you won’t mind stopping what you’re doing to do these letters, right?) and the unending parade of questions from someone who may be the single stupidest human being I’ve ever encountered. At least the boss doc makes sense…!
Off to see if the end of the week is better than the beginning was.
Would never ignore you. Too slow on refreshing.
OK. Well, I over reacted. Very crappy mood after last night’s debacle.
Don’t see the bad news there. Sounds great.
A debacle? What did I miss? I wasn’t around last night.
The bad news is that I have a feeling that I know who beat me. She’s young, very capable and personable as well. She’s really an up and comer and will be a formidable foe. I’m not sure, however, that she will go for the exec. job. She doesn’t have a lot of experience yet. But in 10 years, everyone expects her to be waaay up the ladder.
You still here, BF? What happened last night?
Fine. She can have the exec job in 10 years, when she’s ready. You go for it now! Good luck.
Lakers 100
Orlando Magic 75
You gotta understand. The Magic are our only sports team and this place wants soooo badly to shake the Mickey Mouse image and show that we’re a real city to be taken seriously. Well, good luck with that. But people have kinda transferred those hopes to the basketball team. If they win then that proves we’re major league, right? Certainly easier than building a city with good jobs, good schools, good housing, good services and low crime. The Magic weren’t supposed to be playing for the championship. It’s David vs. Goliath. The town is going crazy for our Magic. Since I’ve been here I’ve never seen the place even close to being a community and this is bringing it together -strangers talking, people in good moods on Mondays…. And last night in the first game of the finals, they got totally obliterated by LA.
But we still believe in Magic.
Our guys didn’t even show up. Thatw as soooooo bad it’s almost like it didn’t count. You’re almost glad they got it all out of their system and they can never be THAT bad again. Right? Tell me I’m right. Please.
I still believe in Magic.
Aaaah, saw part of that game. You’re going to have a rough week. (sorry)
I don’t have a fave in that series. But now I’ll root for Orlando. Things could be worse, you could be a Knicks fan.
…and I’m off to ready for work.
Go to the Supreme Court and say you were discriminated against because you’re older and that judicial activist Sotomayor will make sure the test gets thrown out and you get the job. [um, snark]
Well, you knew going in you’d be competing with Ms. Wonderful, so no surprise. You may be wromg about her being # 1 and even if she is, experience counts for something. Should count for alot.
I don’t really even like basketball much, but now I’m an official Magic fan. I believe in Magic! (Disclaimer — it’s possible that I’m the smooch of doom to any sports team or figure I root for. Feel free to “un-fan” me if they don’t improve!)
I’m from NJ. Only been here a few years. Knicks fan since the Red Holzman days in the early 70’s. What a shame what’s become of that franchise. Thing is I’m used to when NY teams play for championships well… sure there’s support but there’s so much going on there never the focus like here. The Magic are the only thing happening. Like I say. If they win then we’re big league, right? So what do they do yesterday? have a pep rally. A pep rally! Like a high school! Not very big league. But it’s interesting. It’s “just basketball” But it’s also more than that in a place like this.
Thanks for hopping aboard.
Would never “un-fan’ you. There is one parallel with politics. The main stream media coverage sucks. Just plain lazy. The “experts” have decided who’s going to win and that’s that. They have a story line and keep pushing it and screw actual reporting.
Media is media is media… This morning on Nice Polite Republicans I actually heard some broad (missed who it was) concern trolling over whether or not Obama had “aggravated both sides” with his speech. Cripes…
Now I supposed I should actually start doing what they pay me to do… I lurk all day, though!
Aggravated both sides? Jeez. Nitwit. Why in god’s name does anyone ask these morons their opinion?
