  • Obama’s speech in Cairo.
  • Full text (below the fold).
  • More analysis here.
  • But…but…forcing people to buy health insurance is anti-freedom.
  • Unions destroy all businesses, except our company’s.
  • And another little piece of K-Lo dies.

I only saw the first hour of that speech this morning, before i had to drag myself to work *sigh*, but i feel really inspired right now. To hear a president who is a citizen of the world and knows his history. I loved his use of phrases from the Koran, whilst in Egypt, to help spread peace. Phrases that will no doubt be used against him by republicans.

From the end of the last thread…..

There appears to have been some misunderstanding. I most erttainly wasn’t saying that Obama is no better than Bush. That’s nuts. All I was saying is that being better than Bush isn’t saying much at all and we gotta expect better than that.

Believe in Magic.

Mika Brzezinski went so far as to say of unions: “They cripple the system that makes a company work.”

Mika, you gotta be shittin’ me. Just get more coffee and iron my shirt.

The best response to this nonsense I read yda was the fact that they were insulting the technicians that put on their sorry show and the company that overpays them!

Talk about daft!

That was some speech. The airheads on CNN are maintaining their ’objectivity.’ They don’t seem very moved or impressed. But I was. I sure was. Teary too. That’s one hell of a President, no matter how progressive or not. I loved all the weaving of history and philosophy. At one point I was saying to myself as Obama pointed out the inconsistencies and denial of obvious truths that we have been living with and I felt the look on his face ~ Shorter Obama: ”wtf?”

Gaza: ”intolerable.” Check. ”Both parties must live up to the responsibilities of agreements they have made. Are you listening Israel?

Words do matter. E-mail read on CNN from an Egyptian Muslim says ”he changed everything in less than an hour … taking us back to when we cared about each other.” Amen. And may peace be upon us.

I think I will read this speech, too.

Go Greenland!!!!!!!! I guess there’s hope for the hemisphere after all.

Obama’s Cairo speech was noteworthy and will be preserved forever as an important historic document. However, it was seriously marred by his three references to Cheney’s false flag operation. Once that operation is fully exposed, Obama will be regarded either as deceptive or naive with regard to the events of 9/11. Not sure which label will cause more damage to his legacy.

Anything a thoughtful Dem Prez can build a fascist Republican can blow it up. Republicans work against world peace..it goes against their nature.

Well said.

That’s where I’m at as well.

It’s like many here take for granted how good this guy is.

Did Bush give a 45 minute speech (forget substance & delivery) in his 8 years of occupation?

Let alone in a foreign country.

I like being proud of my president again.

No, I don’t agree with his pace on DADT, wish he was for single payer, wish he was supportive of the Wilson’s lawsuit, etc.

But in the t-chart of life, his positives far outweigh his negatives.

I’m waiting for the response from the Israeli’s although I know it’ll be the same ol’ “we’ll do whatever we want” bullshit. The AIPAC lobbyists will be flooding the halls of Congress today spreading their venom.

Indeed, but now with 1.5 billion of the world’s population taking note, peddling that venom has become a somewhat of a more difficult task.

I tend to agree with ghost in that 911 was some sort of false flag op which was made to pin the attack on AQ as American needs enemies to justify its military and militarism. With no tangible threat the DOD mission seems to be overkill (it does even with the so called threats today). When the cold war ended the military needed a new mission so pesky terrorism of disgruntled extremists needed to be escalated to a world class menace. So the black ops got behind/inside of a few “extremists groups” and facilitated the mischief on 9.11, 3.11 and 7.7. They quashed any effective forensics to reveal who was really behind these events and the west rallied around the new GWOT, DOD and the privatized military followed and trillions were dumped into the defense establishment with no bid contracts and no oversight.

Saddam was a ruthless killer of 100 of thousands and we showed the Iraqis we could do it from 10,000 feet. And the great DOD can’t get a band of slackers who live in caves after 9 years? Something does not compute over in Afghanistan. Meanwhile we are paying 3 times for fuel and as dependent as ever on the ME for it. Someone got rich on that too.

Obama is either naive, uninformed or participating in concealing the truth about the last 8 years. I vote the latter. And he’s become useful to them as he quietly lets the MIC grow and go on and on.

Concur, SanderO. It is becoming increasingly impossible to categorize Obama as naive and uninformed. He is indeed concealing the truth, at least for now. Most certainly, he has no choice. The men who put away Jack Kennedy (and Bobby, and Jack Jr.) are still in power.

The dweeb in the Mathews video is still using the debunked BS talking point that Obama was the “most liberal guy in the United States Senate”. Do these bastards ever give up on their well demolished lies? Even years after the lies have been exposed?

Do a little research. Jr. was an execellent pilot who never took risks. He was flying on a clear night and reported no mechanical problems. On approach to his destination, his plane plummeted almost vertically, in the same manner as Paul Wellstone’s plane.

The technology for controlling planes from the ground has been available for years. When Germany discovered that planes it purchased from US manufacturers included that hardware, it promptly dismantled it from all its US-purchased planes.

John was a pilot who, iirc, was not instrument certified and the flight data shows a gradual descent into the sea.

From Wiki:

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) determined that the probable cause of the crash was: “The pilot’s failure to maintain control of the airplane during a descent over water at night, which was a result of spatial disorientation.”. Although the weather was officially listed as VFR (Visual Flight Rules), allowing Kennedy to fly that night despite his lack of an IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) rating, the visibility was poor in Essex County, New Jersey, and at least one pilot interviewed by the NTSB in the subsequent crash investigation canceled his flight to Martha’s Vineyard that night. “Based only on the current weather conditions at CDW, the fact that I could not get my friends to come with me, and the fact that I would not have to spend money on a hotel room in Martha’s Vineyard, I made the decision to fly my airplane to Martha’s Vineyard on Saturday.” The conditions near the crash site were “Clear skies at or below 12,000 feet; visibility 10 miles”.

That spells pilot error, not paying attention to his altimeter.

Get your facts straight, troll.

The one thing that allows them to lobby our government is the one thing our government will not side against, money. In speaking to our elected officials, money is the only thing that sways them, whilst ordinary people like you and I rarely get heard.

I’m not seeing how forcing us to buy crappy insurance from overpriced companies with high deductibles is anything but a huge giveaway to the insurance industry. It’s like Bush’s prescription drug solution x1000.

The only way we don’t get screwed by mandates is if the system is single payer. If single payer is off the table, it’s simply indentured servitude to private insurance. That’s why the insurance companies are fighting so hard for it. It’s being referred to as the “holy grail”.
