It’s bad enough that conservatives have brought in a known dirty tricks practitioner to work behind the scenes to stop Sotomayor. But it’s amazing how they do not seem to have any idea of optics anymore…other than the ability to think the D.C. press corps will ignore such matters.
Ah, but that darn internet, the village just isn’t what it used to be. Meet the slimy operative in question, Manuel Miranda and his reserve of offensive statements:
Hispanics think just like everyone else. We’re not like African-Americans. We think just like everybody else.
Could you dig a bit deeper? I think Beijing is another shovel-load away.
But again, he could always fall back on the Village to support his argument, they’ll accept any bit of stupidity if it comes from well-known liars with an (R) after their name:
Obama is … finishing [a] novel, that puts him on less than a 10 book-a-year pace, far less than the close to 100 books President Bush was reportedly able to finish in the same amount of time.
Yeah, this claim came from Karl Rove who asserted that Bush read 95 books in 2006, cover-to-cover.
This is known in common parlance as a laughable absurdity, a lie reduced to consider the subject, the assertion, who asserts it — lie, lie, liar. But to the Village, it’s a well-known fact. So there you go Manuel, some "evidence" (can I put quote marks around quote marks?) to support your offensive and stupid contention.

Bush read ninety five books cover-to-cover. Front cover, back cover. Extra credit for the dust jacket blurb and author’s picture.
maybe he was reading books when he should have been reading reports & governing….
Good morning pups (it’s morning here in Europe). The Village is starting to look a little like Dien Bien Phu in the declining days of the siege. I’m sure the Villagers are feeling that way, too. They can’t get their heads around the fact that the Dems have a master politician who is now running the country the way he wants it to run, and not the way they want it to run. Unlike the Rethugs, who have passed on to the anger stage of grief, the Villagers are still in denial. I can’t wait til we get to bargaining. I want to see what they will offer up.
puleeezzeeee
hell, it’s morning in Georgia!
.
I’m sure Dumbya read “My Pet Goat” at least 95 times before 9/11, so he could appear at ease before the kiddies & the cameras on the big day. Didn’t work. Squirrelly as usual. Shoulda got him drunk. -Er.
This claim is just another example of the complete disconnect between the Cons and good old fashioned reality. In their sick, sick, sick minds, reality is whatever they believe it is: Abortion is ACTUALLY mass murder, the Iraq war is justified by the presence of actually non-existant WMDs, actual gay marriage is a threat to imaginary “traditional marriage.”
Let’s quit f**king around with them: Conservatism is a severe mental illness, requiring massive intervention by psychiatric professionals: An army of them. Until that is possible, they need to be marginalized and scrutinized for any further signs of violence and anti-social behavior. It’s not just politics any more. As they’ve been saying all along, it’s war. Let’s win this one NOT for the Gipper.
Here’s another example: Iraq war cheerleader Bill Kristol demanding that we start WWIII with N.Korea over their internal succession antics on the world stage. Aw, Hell, Billy-boy! Let’s make it a NUKULER war! This from the artist formerly known as “Dan Quayle’s Brain.” And our tame corporate media are still giving this war-criminal a podium to thump on. Still believe in being “fair & balanced”?
.
Yup, cosanostradamus. Eradicate cancervatism within our lifetime.
Good morning, pups. Back again after computer issues yesterday. MoDo is off today, so we have The Moustache of Wisdom with “Obama on Obama,” in which he says the president has no illusions that his speech in Cairo will make lambs lie down with lions. Rather, it is part of his broader diplomatic approach to engage the Muslim world. Yesterday Mr. Herbert, in “The Howls of a Fading Species,” said there is every reason to hope that we’ve improved as a society to the point where the racial craziness of the Gingriches and Limbaughs will finally have a tough time finding any sort of foothold. We can all be spared Bobo and Asshat.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got Thomas’ English muffins and your favorite jam. I wonder if Hoover has a paper route, because neither he nor today’s Daily Disappointment are anywhere to be seen. I’m off to check again… Have a great day.
Actually, there’s something about Rove’s story that makes sense. At some point, he gave the Decider a reading list made up of audiobooks he could listen to while he was exercisin’. That was to keep Junior busy while the big boys figured out a way to get to 2008 with some dignity intact.
To compare the well-readness of W with our new President is….well, hyterical, absurd, psychotic..O my. Even W may be embarassed over that one. Maybe we should ask a few folks at Yale, or UT Law where he was not admitted.
Terminator V: Foreclosure Day.
Hmmm. Obama on the economy, foreign policy, and Presidential power looks an awful lot like a re-run. So which is it? Obama is a cavalier and capable genius politician who’s running the show the way he wants to run it, or he’s being forced into a corner of consensus building, which is why he has to go to such lengths to mimic his predecessor despite all his rhetoric and best-intentions to the contrary?
Can you clarify that for me?
That book count was the most ridiculous report ever. Not only do I not believe it but 2 books per week isn’t even laudable for a man who should be spending some time doing his job.
OT-Anyone else a tad worried about Obama going to the Middle East?
Well, if you count Harlequin romances and Classic Comics…
Still to this day, I can’t envision George Bush reading a book, let alone, the backside of a cereal box.
Yes. As Donald Rumsfeld would say, stuff happens.
I am. He’s going into the Bush Family & Friends Oil Cartel area of the world. Could get ugly. If one move is made against President Obama, I would be okay with our country dropping a nuke on Saudi Arabia in retaliation. It’s the only time I would be for such aggression and I wouldn’t feel one ounce of regret.
Morning all.
Saudi Arabia has threatened the press that has accompanied Obama. If they report on anything other than Obama they will be arrested. Let’s hear it for allies.
no regret? are you mad?
you advocate nuking a country and can not even spare one regret for the people you would destroy and the suffering you would cause?
the poor? the women? the children?
will no one here speak for the victims?
Allies in the war against Islamofascism.
Yes I’m mad.
Harlequin Romances are keeping the publishing industry alive these days!
Glad you included Bob Herbert’s column in your earlier comment–a perfect combo of smackdown and moral outrage. Amen.
Here’s a link to a Fargo hometown opinion writer on the attacks on Sotomayor. We’re a big sports town, so his metaphor is terrific. Even the guys in the sports bars will have to nod to this one.
George read all the Curious George books, yep, every one. Thought they were his hagiography series.
stupid me. i thought the one thing we all agree on was that advocating violence against people was something we don’t do and that we condemn it when others do it.
i am ashamed.
WTF? There are those who think the disaster in Irak was Shrub’s revenge for a plot against his father. That’s worked out really well. So now use of a nuke is OK? WTF, over.
Thanks for that link. Good column. I wish we had someone half as good in the Savannah Daily Disappointment, but they actually publish Charles Cabbagemallet…. [sigh]
Ummmm, what are the chances of the USA nuking Saudi Arabia in retaliation over the Saudis killing our president on their soil? Huh? None. I am pissed this morning, because I watch the Saudis this morning on my tv pretending to civil, when really, they’re no different than the backstabbing right wing assholes of America! My frustration makes me want to lash out verbally, but then again, I know there are lots of Democrats who wouldn’t care if something happened to President Obama because they’ve been disappointed with him since 3pm on January 20, 2009 and have put him in the same group as George W. Bush, you know, a Saudi sympathizer.
You can reduce this down to whatever you want Selise, but I get this feeling that you and others on here would say, “Oh well. His time in office was good. Welcome Joe Biden to the presidency!”, if something happened to President Obama. I get this feeling after reading comment after comment on here for months now.
I wouldn’t go so far as to put Obama in the same category as Shrub but I do think he’s part of the Establishment, maintaining the status quo for the benefit of the monied class, iow a corporatist. I’ve said so since day one. And yes, I’m disappointed that whatever progressive ideas he espoused during the campaign have been modified to fit into the Establishment’s world view. As I’ve also said since day one Congress is the focus of my endeavours for a better system of governance. I’ll keep slamming Obama and his team when their decisions continue to benefit one class while the other, the workers, the poor and the ill, suffer because of those decisions. Whatever happens, violence is not a solution. To anything, anytime, anywhere.
See? I rest my case. You can continue to hold Obama’s feet to the fire and I will continue to imagine nukes dropping on the Saudi royals in retaliation for killing my President in cold blood on behalf of Bush & Cheney. ;-)
Cheneys pet monkey couldn’t get through 95 Cliff notes in one year, let alone books. I doubt the ADD wet brain has read one book since high school.
Books on Tape
For a guy with an attention span the length of a gnat’s dick.
George, get rid of that ducktape. I never said tape the books…(D. cheney)
Not only did he read 95 books cover-to-cover, but upside-down as well.
Little Golden Books perhaps? I’m a fairly fast reader, so I could probably manage to read 95 of those in one afternoon. Given that, I guess I could helieve that W could have finished 95 of them in a year.
Some of the words in “The Pokey Little Puppy” are more than one syllable, however, so he may have had trouble with that one.
what are the odds that he read the books that Obama wrote?
Just arrived at this thread. I’m living backwards, to see if it makes the world spin better, counter-balanced, as it were.
selise! I stand with you. Not even in jest or frustration should those words ever be said. I don’t handle such stuff well, even in casual talk. I find my tolerance level for hearing it is lowering rapidly as I age.
I suggest this fine array of FDL folks gave her a bye, because she’s basically a nice person. They might like to hope she misspoke, or just write it off with a shrug.
If you happen to notice, the former military among us usually are eerily silent at such times – exhibiting remarkable control out of respect for a blog friend, perhaps, and very definitely harboring memories of active service that are the stuff of true nightmares.
I salute them all, even as I hate war and violence.
