Yeah, I know, so not breaking news. . . but this kind of is:
JERUSALEM — Senior Israeli officials expressed irritation on Wednesday that President Obama had declined to acknowledge what they called clear understandings with the Bush administration that allowed Israel to build West Bank settlement housing within certain guidelines while still publicly claiming to honor a settlement “freeze.”
…
The Israeli officials acknowledged that the new American administration had different ideas about the meaning of the term “settlement freeze.” Both Mr. Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton have said in the past week that the term meant an end to all building, including natural growth. But they complained that Mr. Obama had not granted that the previous understandings existed. Instead, they lamented, Israel stood now accused of having cheated and dissembled in its settlement activity whereas, in fact, it had largely lived within the guidelines to which both governments had agreed.
So, let’s get this right: Bush engaged in secret negotiations with Israel that basically stuck a thumb in the eye of the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and left Israel swinging in the wind, and this is defined as Obama’s problem HOW exactly?
Mind you, this latest revelation follows hard on the heels of this other tidbit of news, in which Cheney confessed that BushCo punted GM’s bankruptcy into the Obama administration’s lap while passing the bucks, and I mean BIG bucks, to their cronies in that $17.4 billion bailout last year.
I have to admit that the novelty of saying "I told you so" wore off a long time ago.

Nicely done, dood !
Watertiger !
I guess I will never get past the question: How did we elect him? Well, answer: We didn’t. But the election was close enough to give cover to the whacky Supreme Court. Such a cunundrum….and such a costly one. Here, adding his midas touch in the P-I puzzle. Wonder when we may see the decline of his ongoing disasters.
Ah! The Font Police!
And by the way: If this turns out to be a real (as opposed to staged) finger in Bibi’s eye, I take it back, Barack. Not all of it, mind you…
The Bush administration is like one of those bad dreams where you run but make no headway. And you cannot wake up.

Jesus Blimpie Christ, didn’t we just know that’s the kind of thing that was going on?
I must go read that link, it really sounds as if Cheney’s exceeding even my low expectations of his caginess.
like that scene in Poltergeist when JoBeth Williams looks down the hallway to the door to her childrens’ room, and it gets further away…
“..clear understandings with the Bush administration that allowed Israel to build West Bank settlement housing within certain guidelines while still publicly claiming to honor a settlement “freeze.”
Whoa..wait a minute. Remember just before the Inauguration, the Israelis called on Bush to coach Obama on ‘the special relationship between the US and Israel’? Was THIS what they were referring to? I’ll bet it is.
It’s the Eveready Bunny of bad politics..it just keeps on going and going and going…
Police ? Moi ?!!
What finger did BO allegedly stick in Bibi’s eye ?
Dear Israel: Elections have consequences.
Also, boo-fucking-hoo.
He had his very interesting choice of Secretary of State pick drop a ‘stop West Bank settlements‘ warning on his ass.
This is the point in the discussion when I always have to ask: Can SMU back out of a Pres. Library? Please.
No way WT! I am shocked! Shocked I tell you!
Good evening pups.
That was great but I was not surprised at HRC’s tone in the least. I’d like to be the Fly on the Wall when Bibi
has a
debatechat with WJC.Ha! Clever.
Betsy !
How are you feeling, Betsy ?
I thought so too …
How’re you doing, Loo Hoo ?
Will be doing much better tomorrow when I end my school year!
Actually, doing pretty well after the final (yay!) spinal procedure a week ago. And got the kid out 9th grade successfully.
Hurray !
How much of a vacation do you get in Texas ?
I’m back in the classroom next year, so I get a much longer summer than usual. Until 2nd week of August, I think. On the other hand, I had hoped to do curriculum writing this summer, but the state never bought the new textbooks so the district doesn’t need anyone to write about them. So …. hoping for a bunch of tutoring.
Cassie said she will be in the Senior Year this coming fall. Glad she is getting through.
Let’s be real clear here. Israel got the Bush Administration to go along with a lie, and now in some small way the Israelis are being called on it.
Remember too all the crapola about Israel wanting a partner in the peace process but they couldn’t trust the Palestinians? Well, by their own admission they lied about the settlements and being liars makes Israel exactly what kind of partner in the peace process? The hypocrisy is so thick you can’t see through it.
Yep. She’s doing a college visit tour in July. 6 or 7 colleges I think.
..and makes the US what kind of “broker”?
Good to see you Watertiger!
O/T At Raw Story there is an article about Bush telling a Houston reporter in 1999 that if he were elected president, he would invade Iraq. Of course the MSM refused to touch the testimony. So the above is not at all surprising. I always suspected that was the reality. just as I have always suspected that Cheney’s secret energy policy meetings were all about invading Iraq for the oil.
Blessings to all
Those two worked pretty well together in the ’90s. I can imagine that being a very interesting conversation.
I’d love to see a map of the region, showing Israel’s border, green line and dots for settlements color-coded for population. Then we could see how far they have moved toward Jordan.
I also wonder if any of those settlers would survive living inside a new Palestine in order to fulfill their dream of living on that particular land.
I’m not seeing much unoccupied land for a DMZ. It appears more and more that they have moved together to the point where they’re practically inextricable. Of course, Palestinians deserve a state (even if it’s not to the dimensions they had previously hoped). And the Israelis have a state they should tend to instead of always hoping to change its borders. Do the Israelis have ANY concept of borders?
One of my favorite lines from a movie is, “Jesus, what is it with you Catholics?” I don’t think it translates so well to Hebrew. Heh.
The Bush Administration denied that there was any such understanding back in April of 2008 the last time Israel tried this argument. No one confirms this understanding except Israel and Elliott Abrams, convicted perjurer. It is not the Bush Administration being duplicitous and deceiptful in this case, believe it or not.
NOT.
It appears more and more that they have moved together to the point where they’re practically inextricable.
Exactly why there should be ONE state – “one man one vote” – sorry if the state based on one single preferred religion thingy didn’t work out for ya.
It’s true. Israel tried this scam last year by claiming they had a secret agreement to expand settlements and Condoleeza Rice denied it. Read about it here in this article entitled “Israelis Claim Secret Agreement with US.” http://www.washingtonpost.com/…..03128.html
The Israelis are running the same scam this year using Elliott Abrams to vouch for them. Read about it here in this article entitled “Israelis Say Bush Agreed to West Bank Growth.” http://www.nytimes.com/2009/06…..038;st=cse
