Hi Suze,
Just got done reading an essay that one of my girls had for homework: James Baldwin “Stranger in the Village”
really timeless and timely, still.
Hi Suzanne….. going to bed….. all I do is sleep now that I’m off the steroids….
hey dosido
hey and g’nite katy
Hey, Suz! Is it hot at your house this week?
Scorching here!
Hi, Pups!
FunnyWheelieDiva
‘night katy. I do the same thing after predisone courses when i have asthma attacks. When you’re this tiny, it hops you up way too much and the crashes suck.
hey funny – warm and can smell rain in the air but no rain. overcast all day but got into the 70’s here.
hey alias
ouch. prednisone really bad trip for me. ack!
geesh, I don’t know if I can read any more about Dr. Tiller. It really makes me mad. The hate and self righteousness.
Something from the essay cited above: ideas are dangerous and lead to actions.
I think that these types of crimes are meant to intimidate and send a message to the living, just like lynchings do.
yup and yup. i keep taking calming, soothing deep breaths to remain centered. these fuckers are trying to push buttons and i refuse to let them push mine.
From neuro:
are you hanging out at LLN much? if you do, you might mention that I am away from home for about 10 days helping an elderly parent move, and my time and computer access are limited.
best wishes to all the pups.
neuro
hey nahant – thanks for the neuro message
-sigh- you are stronger than I am right now.
We have a tightknit little group of nutcases in our own parish. even the pastor realizes they are undermining the message with their attitude and tactics. I steer clear and tell my kids to think for themselves.
Hi Suz, hi pups. Suz, I’m with you on doing the breathing exercises since Dr Tiller was murdered. I just don’t have any words.
((( Tiller family )))
hey LL
you could call him a neuro-transmitter
not stronger – just have been through hard times where the only control i had was over my reaction. am getting better at getting my zen on :)
ha! hey pun – how ya doing?
yiffery… furries….
Without fdl I’d know nuthin.
hey sunny
your welcomed..
Just Lurking while watching “Lost”…
Getting Lost I guess..
Fifty Lashes with a wet Noodle for that one!
hi Suz – fair to middlin’, thx. yourself?
lost repeat?
what, you missed the synapse sheet?
’bout the same pun. both my girls are now up here – the bride (whose 1 year anniversary was sun) is in beaverton and baby girl is now living in portland.
Suz, I do have some good (personal) news: I haz a kitteh in my house now :-) Here’s a pic of her.
ohmystars LL – what a cutie! details please :)
2007 version… I am getting 1st and 2nd season on blue ray as a birthday/fathers days gift when they come out on the 16th!! We will start the series at the beginning..
proximate progeny – nice.
I thought you’d like her Suz ;-) She’s a rescue cat, got her from the fine folks at HART (Homeless Animals Rescue Team). 6 years old, American Curl breed, in great health, and she’s very happy in her new home :-)
i have 1 2 3 and 4 on dvd
close enough yet far enough away…
precious!
what’s her name LL
purr-dy kitty!
ooooh very cute kitty!
I’m going to go curl up and sleep now myself!
nite all.
OMG, LL!
She is Teh Cute! Call teh cute kops!
Congrats, kitteh-mom.
Does she keep ya company while you hang out with her FDL aunties and unclies?
FunnyWheelieDiva.
g’nite dosido
Thank you Sunny! She’s a beauty, and she knows it ;-)
Suz, now don’t laugh…her original name was Taffy, but I have re-named her Suze (a variation on Susie, and for a variety of reasons and people :-) )
Night, dosido!
FWDiva
Thanks punaise, dosido and FunnyD! Right now she’s perched on the back of that same chair, right behind me as I type…
*stiffling laugh*
suze is a great name
Glad you think so ;-) It really fits her, although most of the time I’m calling her “sweetie” or “honey”, etc.
LL, what a great pic, is she as sweet as she looks? How old?
And Hi Funny Diva, Alias, Suz, Chris, everyone.;)
hey margot
WRT Tiller: Does anyone now regret the Confederacy was not allowed to secede in 1860?
I think I started regretting it in December 2000, and the more time passes, the more I wish they had just been allowed to secede. All the wingnuts could live with each other in poverty.
Hey, Margot
FWDiva
Suze:
Hi Margot! She is a real sweetheart :-) She’s 6 years old.
Oh, I understand. My Buster Kitten gets called all kinds of pet names. As do my former housemate’s 3 cats.
FWDiva
That sparks a memory, pun, I think I’d heard of that aperitif before. No bitterness with this one though ;-)
Anyway, thanks all for viewing the pic and for your kind comments :-) Didn’t mean to take over the thread here ;-)
i’m gonna have to try that just for the name alone pun :) thanks
this is the place LL – off topic is the topic etc
Oh, hey, we need a kitten break! At least I do!
FWDiva
actually it has a pretty disgusting taste, sorry!
True that, Suz!
FunnyD, a kitteh break is restorative ;-)
token: and doggie breaks
i’ll send a bottle to the fundy ex
ding!
lol Suz — how is Token doing?
he’s still the cutest dog in the world (9 lb category). he’s sporting his summer do and still wanting adoration from all.
Of course, Token. My apologies
Kitteh and doggie breaks. Restorative. Fortifying. Soothing.
FunnyWheelieDiva
Kitteh staff, puppeh lover.
Aw, well from the pics I’ve seen he is definitely the cutest dog in the world, no matter what category :-) Glad he’s loving life up there on the OR coast.
nite Pups!! tucker sends token a biscuit(:>))
g’nite nahant
‘nite nahant (and tucker)
he seems to love it. bailey is not so happy – there are other cats on the property and she likes being solo.
token says thanks to tucker (had to finish eating it before he could say that nahant)
nite nahant
Ah. My two troublemakers are getting big and sassy. Kintaro’s still a cuddleboy kitten and his brother Houdini claims my lap when he’s in the mood to.
At the moment i’m just exhausted. I did double duty last night. Radio Riel is officially a non profit radio station online. :D As of June 1st. XD So i worked teh usual crazy monday pharmacy shift, followed that up with a 3 hour radio gig. Me=SPLAT
But ever so worth it.
Some cats are like that, definitely wanting their own territory to themselves. I swear they have very human-like personalities in that regard.
woohoo alias – hard work but you love it :) woohoo and what’s the link for those who wanna listen?
Pretty kitty, LL!
Hi pups.
Very cool alias, glad you’re having fun with that radio gig!
hey emerson
Thanks emerson!
well, you can visit our homepage first to see our genre stuff. Radio Riel The links for the streams are at the top right of the page though.
I will seldom be on the main stream, but i’ll turn up on the event streams pretty regularly. Since i have to keep pharmacy as my primary job, i don’t have time to dedicate to the station as much as i’d like. But i’m still glad i can do both and work one around the other’s hours. It keeps me busy, if a little tired.
Oh my name as a Presenter there, is Mitsu Figaro. Since we began in Second Life and do most of our work there, we still go by those avatar names. We built our model of work as similar to how the BBC Radio began so long ago.
kewl – thanks alias
Hi Suz. Brought a song and old video. Lived on this album for about 6 months after landing in California.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XS513FRfbwE
steve winwood *sigh*
Love me some Steve Winwood…nice!
I have about 10 minutes until I need to go g-thud (h/t Busted), so here’s a song that’s been on my mind lately:
Time Has Told Me
his recent stuff is good too
On this album he wrote the songs and lyrics, sang all vocals and played all instruments. The most underrated superstar of music.
If there are any DIVERS out there
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WT_HDXWsZeo
not many who can do that for sure emerson. i did not know that – thanks
Whoa-soothing voice. Why didn’t I know this guy?
per the utube – song was released on September 1, 1969
emerson, isn’t he great? I’d never heard of him until just a few years ago. Remember a VW ad from a little while back, featuring a song called “Pink Moon”? Same guy :-)
Yeah! I’ve heard 4-5 of the new songs and they’re all great. Might have to listen to the others tonight.
hello Suzanne, and anybody else who recognizes the moniker.
Barack O will be in Dresden tomorrow and Friday (with side trips to Buchenwald, etc.). it’s said Angelika M. will drop by for tea or beer and cigarettes. all us expatties are advised to carry our passports in case enquiring folks want to know. have no idea if i’ll even see him as details are skimpy. the trams have “Welcome Mr. President” stickers on their windshields and i haven’t heard any grumbling but there are local elections in the works (European Parliament representatives or something) and the NPD (Neo-Nazis) who don’t seem to be very popular here have a particularly nasty red, white and black poster (get the color symbolic reference?) that says “Touristen Wilkommen – Kriminelle Auslandern Raus!” (Tourists Welcome – Criminal Foreigners Out!). not sure which category they classify Mr. President. Gee, does that sound like any U.S. political sub-strata? Perhaps Lou Dobbs has been consulted …….
regards to you all. i’ll be back some daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay………
nick drake wiki
hey fahrender – i remember the moniker (and you)
thanks for the info
Oh that’s right, before my time! (You did say 1949, right?)
Thanks for that wiki link to Nick Drake, Suz; his voice and music was magical.
(laughin)
how’s the bay area tonight?
Really like it. He should have stuck around longer.
emerson, sigh…I know. One of a kind.
G’night all, and thank you Suz as always :-)
g’thud LL
Bay was gorgeous today, Suz. 78, sunny, with a soft breeze.
Need to get a new back deck. Had a guy come and look at it today.
nite LL. Congratulations on your new addition.
that low sitting off the ca coast is shuffling all the moisture up here – no sun but warm and i smelled rain in the air all day. thunderstorms in the south and eastern parts of oregon but none here. token and bailey do not like thunder
So, Buster’s g’thud is the head hitting the pillow?
i hope it is the pillow and not the floor
Here’s my quarter in the jukebox.
I know, Spence runs upstairs under his table.
We’re supposed to get rain this week. Actually was supposed to start today, but you know weather types in the bay-pretty much two forecasts per year. Anything different-they freak.
LMAO-I guess it depends on one’s stage of life! Classic!
yeah – i gotta admit i like the weather doods (and doodettes) up here. not so excitable when there is a chance of rain
Hi Margot. Good choice. I used to see Bonnie RAitt walking around Sausalito in the mid-90’s. I think she lived in Mill Valley? She was very sweet in person. And tiny.
I think Paul McCartney also did that, but I don’t recall the name of the album.
BTW, did you all hear about the cat named Lucky who fell out of an apartment building window some 20 floors and survived? Yep, I saw it in the news a few days ago. Keep the windows closed or use some kind of guard!
On another topic, Al Qaeda’s Ayman Zawahiri is yapping again, this time about president Obama going to Egypt (AZ’s homeland) to give a speech or two about how to achieve peace. Zawahiri is a real nut, one of the group who killed the great Anwar Sadat and a member of the Brotherhood. With any luck he’ll have to sit and stew wordlessly while Obama brings Egypt, Israel and the Palestinians into a greater peaceful relationship than ever before. AZ’s been in hiding and unable to return to Egypt to fight the real fight. Now he’s relegated to yapping like a little dog nobody wants to hear.
I suppose there are still some war-mongers out there who are loving all this military activity around the world. But, they must also be worried that it will be a brief flare-up and then quietude. It doesn’t stop the stupid gun dealers who supply Pro Life killers or Mexican drug lords who slaughter and destroy — that’s our own hellish problem to solve.
I saw a headline that we now have something like 250,000 private mercenaries in Iraq and Afghanistan combined. That ought to be enough guns to put some hurt on the Taliban. I’m not crazy about the idea of private mercenaries though. It seems to indicate we as a nation can’t really put our muscle behind a given foreign policy that requires warring. Of course, we have so many simmering problems that this one can wait to be resolved.
Condolences to all who lost friends & family on the French aircraft that crashed. I hope it’s not the beginning of a resurgence in terrorist acts against airplanes.
Suze is a good name, but I think most respond to “here kitty kitty” and a bowl of food.
‘Night all.
Ever driven in the rain in LA? There’s a fender bender every 10 feet. People absolutely freak out.
hey and g’nite mark h
markh – wiki agrees with ya:
the bay area ain’t la
Geez Mark H, that was quite the comprehensive round-up! I think you’re right about McCartney. Those are the only ones I’ve heard of.
G’nite.
Ah, the phrase doodettes… a woman after my own heart. I have cultural problems referring to women as doods.
I love the evolution of our slang towards gender non-specific. It’s the thing I admire most in the Finnish language, which I don’t speak or understand, but we have extended family that comes from Finland. It fascinates me that in their language you can easily converse about a friend and the sex of that friend isn’t part of the communication. Neutral.
hey openhope
Not yet, but the traffic and traffic habits are getting comparable, believe it or not. Don’t miss the commute at all.
i’ve thought that the bay area is about 10 years behind la in traffic style. when i retired i did not miss the commute at all.
That’s where I learned to drive. Moments of shear panic. Those days taught my to NEVER ride your brakes. Bear down to the bone and release. Loosen up on the steering wheel , bear down to the bone and release. Hated that. Hated fog.
I can’t call a girl dood. Although I’v e seen women of 35 do it. My nephews are 26-27, and they do it to girls their age.
i gotta tell ya emerson, that night i drove from long beach to fontana with 2 laso escorts (and doing about warp 8.5), it was amazing to watch the traffic get outta our way. of course, with the cruisers behind me, i bet it looked like a chase to a lotta folks.
was trying to make it to LAX one morning. No problem until it started raining. In a matter of about 5 minutes, the freeway was a parking lot and we saw four minor accidents.
Mad dash thru airport and sprinted to the gate as they were closing the door. Pretty funny.
That would get ME moving over, too! How is OJ, BTW?
oj is still in nevada prison
i was driving home a friend whose husband, an laso deputy, had been shot and was outta surgery doing well. she was fried so i was driving her home in my car from the hospital with an laso rookie driving her car and the two escorts to make sure we got home fine.
i figured it was my one get outta jail moment on the la freeways and i took full advantage of it in my little saturn sc2. and it made my friend laugh as we zoomed by cars. her hubby recovered and was retired out and they are now in wisconsin.
The wheels of justice grind slowly, but …
hey wigwam
iirc, oj lost an appeal recently on his nevada conviction.
They still allow you to sprint to the gate and board ?! That was always my MO.
Hi Emerson, how cool you got to see her. I got through a bad patch around 1980 by listening to 2 of her early albums before work. Then I felt fine. Just amazing, the difference the music made.
Wow! Just another nite for you, Suz?
Were you ever shot at?
that was off duty – she called and i hopped into the car and drove down south.
and nope, and the only time i fired a weapon was on the range
Isn’t that amazing, Margot? Any big event, good or bad, I can remember what song was playing. If it’s over a 2-week period, I usually remember the album(s). I guess that’s why they are called the arts.
They must have been close to you, Suz. What was your friend (wife) like when she called you?
I’ve actually thought about getting a gun and heading over to that range across from San Quenton. Never thought I would even hold a gun, but I’m re-thinking it.
I just saw the movie “Cadillac Records” for the first time tonight. Great music!
her husband was shot on the 13th anniversary of the on duty shooting of her dad (also a cop). she was fine. as i told her, her job was taking care of hubby and my job was taking care of her. laso was wonderful about posting guards (he was shot by a gangbanger 6 times including one to the head and never went down and never went out) and making sure he was taken care of at the hospital.
his capt heard about that drive home and stopped by his hospital room the next day and tried to hire me to laso. i had no desire to work the jails but it was flattering :)
Anything particular changing your mind?
Every once in a while I’m tempted to re-arm, often on account of some headline.
i hear it has great music from the 40’s upwards. love movies with great soundtracks. it really enhances the movie
Now, at the risk of sounding white trash bitchy…some of us can’t link to those fancy music sites. A naming of the musician linked would help us to have a glimmer of the world beyond dial-up. /s
no point in having a gun unless you can and will use it for its intended purpose.
Along that line, one of my all time favorite albums is the the sound track from “The Harder They Come.” Made me an instant reagge fan.
i remember those days open hope – is why i always try to remember to give a clue to what it is when i link to utubes. it takes hours to stream one utube on dialup
Yes, I think there will be a lot of desperate people on the streets in the next year or so. Not to be an alarmist, but people are really pissed about losing their jobs, their houses, their marriage, etc. I am starting to think I should know how to shoot if I absolutely had to.
I used to do a lot of target shooting, especially pistol. Mostly on police teams, even though I wasn’t a cop. Somehow they were allowed to bring in a certain number of civilians.
Cool. So who are you guys talking about? Enquiring minds want to know…
I even reread the comments to find out. I’m either off my game or there’s or name.
I sure hope it doesn’t come to that, but it’s good to be prepared.
are you talking about the bonnie rait video margot linked to?
That’s amazing, on all kinds of levels. Spouses of cops have to be hard core too, eh? But the same anniversary date- that’s just wrong.
yup – she was amazing – said having been through it before with her dad made it easier but was kinda spooked out by the fact it was the 13th anniversary
Good for neuro, and for his folks.
And thanks, Suz, for the great music!
Per HuffPo:
Wow!!
So, was your spouse Ok with you being a cop and was your spouse a cop?
That is a real edumacation, huh? Who da thunk? Where do these people come from? I clicked through too far.
OHHH, so sweet!
hey loohoo
my first spouse was not in the business and was ok with it.
my second spouse was an officer at the same dept i was at.
holy moly
Firearms are part of our culture. Everyone should understand the gun, imho.
I took my kids to the gun club when they were getting old enough to mix with people that I didn’t know. Just because I think it’s important to know everything about guns in a gun culture.
I thought it would just be educational, hanging out with the NRA, learning gun safety[ they are excellent teachers on safety and awareness], having a membership for target practice.
It was a great decision. But I relearned my love of target shooting. I’m now the registered owner of a rifle and a pistol and thinking, why not a 12 gauge, it could be worth having around.
Somehow this turned out different than imagined. But both my kids are damn good shots and my son takes excellent care of the guns. As he was taught by the NRA guys. Weird.
Hey LooHoo
time for me to head out pups. i have a date with a jar of nutella.
g’nite pups and thanks for letting me hang out with ya tonight
I don’t know.
They’ve been saying that the sudden breakup with no radio from the crew would be difficult to explain on the basis of lightning and/or turbulence.
Oops. Time to call it a night.
G’nite, All.
REPORT!!!
Yes, tomorrow beckons and all. G’night.
One of the reasons I’m thinking about the range by San Quentin is because I used to drive by there every day, and I’d see only cops and prison guards there. I figured that I could always get advice and a few tips pretty easily.
That is some story, openhope. I could see that.
That’s it for me too. G’nite pups.
emerson, in case you’re still here, the scariest/funniest part of the range was the cops doing target practice. We were in a section next to their practice area. Dirt and metal targets. Dirt hit, dirt hit dirt hit then Ping-metal,then dirt dirt dirt dirt. We were doing way better on our side in terms of hits.
My homeschool lesson for the day was; if you find yourself in a situation where cops are shooting FUCKING LIE DOWN. They don’t have a lot of fucking gun talent in the gene pool. Maybe we caught them on an “off summer” but it was consistent.
All those movies where cops pull their guns in a situation? In reality the percentage of good shooters seems about the same as everyone else. Not encouraging.
