It’s been several months since the brutal Israeli attack on Gaza in which at least 1400 Palestinians were killed – over 900 of those were civilians. Once the Israeli forces withdrew, so did the media attention but conditions remain desperate for Gazans. And now, there are reports of new Israeli provocations.

Few people understand what Reid, Rendell, Biden, Casey and Obama think they’re getting by throwing the drowning Specter a political lifeline.

If Specter thinks he’s going to be the Democratic Party’s standard bearer in this race he should be forced to earn it– and he has a very long way to go to catch up with a man like Joe Sestak.

People close to Condi Rice and Porter Goss appear to be significant sources for a NYT article adding new data points to the torture narrative. They’re self-serving. But if Condi and Goss want to turn on Cheney, I’ll take it.

In a move that can only be described as profoundly stupid, Senator David Vitter has placed a hold Craig Fugate’s nomination to head FEMA. The reason he is blocking the nomination of the most-qualified FEMA director ever: he wants to ease the rules for building in flood-prone areas.

The letter DOJ sent a letter to Leonie Brinkema to explain why it had neglected to admit there were torture tapes it didn’t disclose to her during the Moussaoui trial. The whole letter makes a lot more sense if James Mitchell and Bruce Jessen had had the tapes.

At the dawn of the 1600′s, disruptive forces that had torn across Europe in the previous century were to produce a series of military collisions and catastrophes which are known to history as the Thirty Years War.
