Gaza: Israel Ramping Up for a New Attack?

By: Siun Sunday May 3, 2009 6:35 pm

It’s been several months since the brutal Israeli attack on Gaza in which at least 1400 Palestinians were killed – over 900 of those were civilians. Once the Israeli forces withdrew, so did the media attention but conditions remain desperate for Gazans. And now, there are reports of new Israeli provocations.

Blue America Welcomes Back a Real Keystone State Democrat: Joe Sestak

By: Howie Klein Sunday May 3, 2009 5:00 pm

Few people understand what Reid, Rendell, Biden, Casey and Obama think they’re getting by throwing the drowning Specter a political lifeline.

If Specter thinks he’s going to be the Democratic Party’s standard bearer in this race he should be forced to earn it– and he has a very long way to go to catch up with a man like Joe Sestak.

Bush’s “Team Torture”: Rice and Goss Turn on Cheney

By: emptywheel Sunday May 3, 2009 4:00 pm

People close to Condi Rice and Porter Goss appear to be significant sources for a NYT article adding new data points to the torture narrative. They’re self-serving. But if Condi and Goss want to turn on Cheney, I’ll take it.

Senator Vitter Tries to Drown Louisiana. . . Again

By: Jim White Sunday May 3, 2009 3:00 pm

In a move that can only be described as profoundly stupid, Senator David Vitter has placed a hold Craig Fugate’s nomination to head FEMA. The reason he is blocking the nomination of the most-qualified FEMA director ever: he wants to ease the rules for building in flood-prone areas.

By: masaccio Sunday May 3, 2009 10:30 am

Unstuck in Time, or Castro! Negroes! Duck and Cover!

By: Glenn W. Smith Sunday May 3, 2009 9:30 am

Talk of states’ rights. Castro and Cuba in the news. Warnings about deadly attacks from afar. Racial fears getting stoked. It all happened before. It led to an alienated South and a dominant GOP which rode the success of it’s Southern Strategy. Don’t let it happen again.
