It is about personal responsibility. But what’s the tie-in to Barbara Boxer? Does Chuck Devore plan to run against Barbara Boxer by talking about Nancy Pelosi?
Is his campaign centered on the message "Have you ever seen them together in the same room? Huh? Have you?"

Great news from Nevada — both houses of the legislature overrode the governor’s veto of domestic partner legislation today! So domestic partners in Nevada win some civil rights, even though the governor wasn’t so keen on the idea. The only story is from AP, so I’ll look around for some other links.

Of course, in the GOP primary, Devore has to appeal to the people who want the state bankrupt and think Arnold is a lefty.

Have to say their current plan for the state is a sure fire winner. I cannot think of anything more that they could have done to convince the voters that they are batshit crazy and unfit to govern. If not now, then as soon as all those cuts go into effect. Wonderful how some folks are all against taxes until you cut their program.

Their cuts are going to kill people. California will be unrecognizable — the only state without state parks, children’s health care, AIDS drug assistance, Medicaid, school lunch assistance, home health aides, or grants to college students. It’s the big GOP experiment in feudalism writ large — for one-eighth of America’s population.
And the Democrats here are to blame for buying into the Governor’s frame that voters wanted “lower taxes” by voting down the referenda last week. Which isn’t what voters actually did at all, but DiFi and our state Democratic leaders have completely adopted Arnold’s frame around the vote.
It’s shameful. We have very few progressives here, and they don’t get listened to or amplified by our corporate media.

Here in Montana we are getting pretty close already. Farking Goopers have been slashing taxes for decades in a state with relatively low revenues to begin with.
At least we can have the satisfaction of saying we told them so, right before they burn us at the stake.
As soon as our media starting calling the federal “backstop” to guarantee our state’s short-term lending a “bailout” I knew it was doomed. And right on schedule, as soon as Arnold left DeeCee, Obama announced there would be “no bailout” for California.
I don’t know about that. Doesn’t look like they will be able to afford the wood for that.
We are now a month away from emergency; funds run out here sometime shortly after July 1 this year, since there’s nothing in place, no rainy day fund, and no brakes on current spending in the absence of a budget. Money simply isn’t coming in and without tax increases, no more money will come in.
Even Democrats here have started saying “You can’t have a system where 125,000 people pay 50% of the taxes,” which completely ignores the fact that since Prop 13, the corporate share of the state’s revenues has gone from 65% to under 40%. That is simply unsustainable.
I think that the sainted Molly Ivins may have been in error. It is California, not Texas, which is actually the National Laboratory for Bad Government.
One and possibly both of the Jarvis-Gann collective are dead. They are lucky.

We have the same problem here….. the Repub gov is asking for a 5 cent temporary sales tax to get us out of the pit and the rest of the idiots are screaming…… I actually admire her because she is willing to take on the beast the wingnut AZ legislature….. these are the guys who vote for penaizing laws against undocumented immigrants….
AZ voted in a similar ballot measure for gay marriage as CA but because we don’t have any loss of civil rights….. it stays….
In the event of a cascade of states failing, I think the Feds would have to intervene. It is a Doomsday scenario I’d rather not see play out.
If California isn’t “too big to fail” there can’t be much hope for the rest of us.

I’ve been following and updating my post, originally on Oxdown and then promoted to the FDL front page, since Dr Tiller’s murder was breaking news. I really don’t have any patience for hearing about how someone wanted “more.” I gave it my all today. I’m sorry that wasn’t enough. It’s a horrific tragedy and one I take very personally too. I did all I could to get word out to people, staying online throughout Book Salon on my post, letting folks know where new info was, and keeping people clear and calm.
Showing up now to complain that there isn’t enough just doesn’t cut it, I’m afraid.

It was the hardest decision this family had to make, devout christians but they knew that they could not deal with or support a severely handicaped child and then deal with their death
