I don’t think many want to fight back the way I want to, at least tonight. :) THe day man come, but for now, I must ask:

When does it end? When does the torture, the murder, outing CIA agents, rape and murder of Iraqi civilians, when does the right wing of this country get to stand and answer for their many crimes? When do people like Billo the clown, El Porko Grande, Sean Insanity, Coultergeist and the rest of them get to stand and be judged? When do Bush, Cheney, Wolfie, Perle, Rice, Powell (yes, Powell) stand for judgement? When will we rise up, with one voice and say “NO MORE, BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY?”? I believe X had the right idea.

How many times must we be rebuffed before we realize TALKING TO THEM ACCOMPLISHES NOTHING?

I’m angry as fuck this evening. I’m ready to go into battle. Talking to them will accomplish as much as talking to the Bush administration.

When do we stop talking and take a stand against these terrorists? We have an American Taliban that LAUGHS at us when we try to talk to them. You cannot negotiate with people who don’t want to negotiate.

We cannot allow terrorists to murder our citizens. For years we’ve sat complacently as they’ve murdered us.

Love is one of the answers, that’s for damn sure.
But it’s not all of the answers.

What we need is disciplined and coherent response to this outrage.

The thing that really gets me mad is this “partial birth” crap….. anyone in the medical profession knows how this works…….

First test to show anomalies of the fetus is around 14-15 weeks….. well too late for a first trimester abortion….
Then they retest…… still positive….. referral to genesis and they so an amniocentesis and that shows the issue…..

so where are you now in weeks? you add the 15 weeks plus the retesting, referral, amnio, and you are looking at something in the 20-24 weeks…..

I had a co-worker who had to go through this and their third child, a boy had trisome 23…. a certain death after a few weeks and they are the ones that look like elves with long fingers and pointed ears…..

It was the hardest decision this family had to make, devout Christians but they knew that they could not deal with or support a severely handicapped child and then deal with their death…. 24 weeks and now that option is gone……

The procedure is the safest of the many that can be performed…. SAFEST!
and they took it away…… another example of risking a mothers life…

I would simply appreciate a team.. a party, at the very least my fellow progressives, would fight tooth and nail with the tools/ constitution/laws/congress/ president we have.

I feel like I am in a waiting game… waiting on my fellow progressives to quit making excuses for these feckless Dems. Especially Obama.

Seems like we barely get tens of thousands to sign petitions when a group of blogs sets up and invites people to sign a petition.

I don’t disagree with you at all… we need a lot of people in the streets for health care, prosecuting these damn war criminals.. and ending needless war for our troops sake above all else. I’m just saying folks need and can do a lot more each day. Where are they, why aren’t they doing it?

Deprive a gutless politician, in a position to do something (like investigate & legislate for instance) his or her very political life – acclaim, voter, dollars. That is how we win. We will never ever win at their violent game, but we will only entomb our kids to bloodier battles in years to come.

Obama’s history in Chicago with Rahm Emanuel is clear. His relationship with Lieberman is clear he supports AIPAC. Rahm is his chief of staff and has exercised freedom to show policy.
Now the Palestinians have been set against (6 killed by Fatah) on another Hamas and Fatah. Obamas policy is to support Fatah of the Palestinian authority. Bibi I believe supports this schism so he can go after the Islamic charities. Hezcollah is tied to Iran, Gaza and Lebanon.
Bibi and the wingers want to force more war keeping USA assests committed in the ME. Period.
That is the Obama/Rahm game. During the campaign they kept it quiet…now the USA wingers are not opposing him.
Obama is an authoriitarian not an individualist…which is the historic character of Americans.
Obama came to the aid of the Oligarchy in bailing wall street with our money.

I don’t think most of the people on our side are strong enough or brave to ever come out of their fear. They all are so afraid of Limbaugh and the 21 percenters and having that finger pointed and the screech “LIBERAL” coming at them, they all stay under their beds.

Yup, there are any number of ways of fighting… which we have not (as a large group) tried. We really didn’t do it under Bush Cheney.. I am beginning to have my doubts if we ever will get close to the level of outrage we had when Bush Cheney kept us in war, protected torturers, denied us health care, and all those needless wars.

We need the level of outrage from 1968.

For short-term electoral gain, republicans opened the door of the coded title of “cultural warfare.” They trumpeted the meme that the government is the tax collector for the welfare state, allowing dimwitted people to believe that their failure is not due to their own incompetence, but is the fault of “the other.”

And the pig-stupid people people believed. This was coupled with the christocons, many are one and the same, polluted with a twisted version of religion. The trifecta was the slender margin in the middle able to be swung by focus-group approved talking points into voting for well-groomed candidates–all financed by the corporatcons.

But now the mask is torn. It was okay as long as the Oxymoron toiled in relative obsurity on the am dial and Fix News merely read blast faxes from the RNC as news, but with the utter disaster republican rule has brought forth, the independent voter has vanished, the House, Senate and Presidency are in Democratic control, the RNC is lead by an affirmative reaction hire, leaving Rush, Newt, and Fix News setting the agenda for the Republican Party.

Seems to me, our job at his point is to look after our own house. Guys like Murtha are going to give these guys a rallying point for corruption charges. Sestak needs to beat Snarlin’ Arlen in the primary. Chuck and Steny are eyeing K-street and Obama is fishcrawling on many campaign promises.

Yeah. I was stunned when I attended the Bankster rally in SF. There were only about 100 protestors, or more signs than people. I expected at least 400-500. The other glaring truth was that people over 50 accounted for about 85% of the total crowd. I saw about 2 college-age kids.

Organizers MUST start with college groups. If you don’t have them-it won’t happen.

No argument. Betrayed and ignored by our own is far worse than seeing the opposition do the expected.

But there’s a difference – when our representatives do not fight on our behalf out of fear of political consequences, it’s one thing; when they do not fight on our behalf because they are exactly the same as the opposition, just with different color carnations in their lapels, it is a whole different deal.

I should have been hanging around here more. Obama’s mediocre (at best) progress on my key issues, torture and health care, caused me to all but abandon political writing. I’m back to believing it’s mostly a load of horseshit, with a few good people trying to accomplish what is almost impossible without the backing of real power.

Going back to fiction and poetry has meant missing comments like yours though, and it’s people like you who keep me from completely losing faith in our government. Actually that’s not correct. I should say that it’s comments like yours I just read that makes me believe I could regain a tiny amount of faith in a government I believe is an utter failure.

It truly boggles the mind to think what they will do when prosecutions occur. Do health care now, then prosecute. I don’t think they will really have an option, short of Presidential pardons.

Emerson, I’m with you on that last bit. This is *NOT* the country I grew up in. Back in the 70’s it looked like things were getting better, that we were on the way to a much more equal society. And then Reagan happened.

In some ways I feel so helpless to do anything about this. On the other hand, tomorrow I’m going to the State House to watch the Representatives debate gay marriage again, and I’ll be there every day that the Reps and Senate work on it, showing my support. It’s good to let them know that their constituents actually care enough to show up. Heck, last time I was there, they recognized me, because of the lace I was working on, so I’m bringing my current project with me. Maybe I’ll try to ‘Kinnear’ my Senator (And Senate President (is that the right word) holding my project. If it works I’ll post the picture.

I hope to be strong enough to be doing that for my body and spirit in a few more months, bb.

Most of us are fully aware of the idea some feel about awakening every day under the Command and Control of The New World Order, how it’s all about “Da Man Keepin’ You Down.” Indeed I feel our movement towards the Feudal States of America. Hi ES! You trace the change to Reagan also? I just don’t understand what happened, and I’m a history major, and I had a group of professors who traced patterns in American Liberal thinking. Granted this was during Reagan’s second term, but all of them, and their students knew something was up but couldn’t fully put our fingers on it.

In hindsight, I think it was failure to fully prosecute Watergate etc. And then the subsequent failure to prosecute, and discredit, the Iran-Contra pack.

At the time, we kidded that the lack of civility could be traced to Nancy Reagan and her “Just say NO” program. That it’d be much more polite to say “Just say, ‘No, but thank you for offering’ or, ‘no, but it was kind of you to think of me.’” (oddly enough, this never caught on as a PSA)

Excellent comment…there has been many accomplishments even though the big picture seems the same. Wingers won with Obama while progessive were sent to cool their heels. But we have fresh debate…while we look over the prescipice…

Much of it I do. Though I agree wholeheartedly, Ford’s failure to pardon Nixon (and congress failure to follow through with impeachment) are two significant points. One of the problems was while we were celebrating our successes of the 70’s, the Reich was organizing on every front possible. They shaped the message even though they were in the minority. It’s not that different now inre the Democratic party. Where are left wing think tanks and what the hell are they doing? I know we have better writers, better speakers, and better ideas. But if we have no access, it means nothing.

Another problem is that progressives seem to have very little in common with Democrats. Thugs don’t have that barrier.

We used to laugh at Limbo when he first hit the air waves. We thought “who could take this clown seriously?” By the time we realized some actually were listening to his shit, the overthrow of democracy was already well underway.
