Why do we want a woman on SCOTUS? Why do we want a black on SCOTUS? Why do we want blacks, whites, latinos, Jews, Muslims, Catholics, etc, on juries, school boards, in Congress? For life experience. For perspective. For the other point of view. For what the old white protestant has “conveniently” forgotten. Why do we have nine justices on SCOTUS, 3 judges on circuit courts, etc. Because the law is often unclear. If the law and the Constitution were so clear, it would be sufficient to have one judge and one interpretation. If the law were so clear, we would not even need to “interpret” it.
