Some on the right are claiming that because both Harriet Miers and Sonia (not Maria) Sotomayor have the "lady parts" they are almost the same.
You know, just like Clarance Thomas and William J. Brennan both bore junk and are therefore, virtually twins.
Embellishing upon the findings of Economaniac, a Great Orange Satan diarist, let’s look at those CVs:
Sotomayor Princeton summa cum laude : Miers Southern Methodist University (no honors), well, did "place" in beer-bong olympics.
Sotomayor Yale law review : Miers SMU law school (no honors), graduating from the home of the NCAA "death penalty" is honor enough.
Sotomayor Prosecutor for Morgenthau : Miers no criminal law experience, but much experience with fellow unindicted co-conspirators.
Sotomayor 6 years as Federal District Court Judge : Miers No judicial Experience, although competent at writing "hand-crafted bedazzled gift cards" and scrolling for, finding, and printing appropriate picture captions at "Daily Kitten.com". "HANG IN THERE, MR. EX-PRESIDENT!"
Sotomayor 10 years on 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals : Meirs No judicial Experience, but has memberships at "CostCo", "Sams Club" and "BJ’s" (Bush got her that last one and was disappointed when he found out what it was)
Sotomayor adjunct professor NYU School of Law : Miers advisory board SMU law school, but hey, she helped get that "George W. Bush Lie-Berry" embedded on campus, so there’s that — SO SUCK IT BAYLOR!

Republicans adjust the ropes on the Acme “Harriet Miers Meme” before lighting the fuse.
http://jamiedobson.co.uk/coyote.jpg
I just wish the Republicans could keep dying forever.
“Some” are questioning Sotomayor’s stance on abortion rights.
That “Some” is always saying something.
What an asshole.
Good morning, pups. It’s Collins and Kristof today. Ms. Collins, in “When Sallie Met Barack,” says the student loan system is a mess, and has a question: Why doesn’t the government cut out the middlemen and just lend the money out itself? Mr. Kristof gives us “Would You Slap Your Father? If So, You’re a Liberal,” in which he says liberals and conservatives don’t just think differently, they also feel differently.
Here they are.
The coffee and tea are ready, and I’ve got apple walnut muffins today. As much as I dread it I’m afraid I’m going to have to get a new computer. I’m going to go and talk to the local geek shop to discuss what I want them to build for me, then comes the misery of re-installing and re-tweaking everything. I’d rather have a root canal… Have a great day.
Condolences to you, Marion, on the sad state of your computer. Allow me to offer you one of the fresh raspberry-and-blueberry scones that just came out of the oven here at Casa Biscuitbarrel? *SOME* say they’re great!
….but has memberships at … “BJ’s” (Bush got her that last one and was disappointed when he found out what it was)
LOL
72 and clear (for now) in The City Beautiful. 88 and Thunderstorms later. Again. This is like fucking Groundhog Day. Our Magic close out the Cleveland LeBrons tonight. Bring on the Kobies!!!!!
She should answer every question thrown at her by repubs as to her “stance” on any given issue with the Larry Craig Gambit.
72 and clear (for now) in The City Beautiful.
65 and “Various Shades of Gray” in Indy.
Look. Obama is going to support her for as long as it takes – which won’t be long ’cause she’s gona get confirmed. Fillibuster? Make my day. Bush bailed on the Ceaning Lady. Why? ’cause Republicans (and Specter-whatever he is) told him she was a crap appointment and to get somebody else. Why don’t they remember that?
She should answer every question thrown at her by the Repubs with “Go fuck yourself.” Just my opinion.
A long quote. Please excuse and bear with it.
Nobody’s saying this about Sotomayor.
[N]ominating a constitutional tabula rasa to sit on what is America’s constitutional court is an exercise of regal authority with the arbitrariness of a king giving his favorite general a particularly plush dukedom. The only advance we’ve made
since then is that Supreme Court dukedoms are not hereditary. . . .
There are 1,084,504 lawyers in the United States. What distinguishes Harriet Miers from any of them, other than her connection with the president? To have selected her, when conservative jurisprudence has J. Harvie Wilkinson, Michael Luttig, Michael McConnell and at least a dozen others on a bench deeper than that of the New York Yankees, is scandalous.
Oh, YUM! Thanks so much for both the scones and the condolences.
Look. Anybody saying the Sotomayor namonation is “scandalous” ???
Chuckie Krauthhammer said it about Meirs. But they’re the same.

They’re not ‘people’ any more; just ’some.
I’d vary that a little and save it for the question about the powers of the Executive Branch. Then bring the answer – “I think that policies instituted under the last administration were unconstitutional, that Dick Cheney was, and is, insane, and that he should go fuck himself.”
Morning. Honestly, I’d like to know more about her thinking on a few issues myself. We’re trusting Obama to make the right choice and I’m not sure that’s enough.
Off topic…I just saw an ad for EFCA which should make a lot of people get their pitchforks ready.
Truthfully, the President can nominate anyone they want.
There are no qualifications.
Just so long as they aren’t stupid.
(that;s mine – clearly there is at least one sitting Justice who might have had trouble with that one – a Silent Minority, he)
This nominee passes that test.
The other one…mmm…not so much.
Of course, the perspective of the selector is decidedly different.
print media is now into saving ink.
and ideas.
and reporting.
I pretty much agree. That’s why-to the major consternation of my liberal/progressive friends – i didn’t get too excited about roberts and Alito. Elections have consequences, right? We lost in ‘04. Say what you will about those two guys but they ain’t dumb. Now let’s strighten things out while we have the chance.
well, the type setters are union after all
I agree with that. Jeez, I’m agreein’ with everybody today. wee sure as hell won’t find out in the confirmation hearings which more often than not are bullshit. And we ain’t gonna find out from the mainstreamers.
Oh yeah. what did the commercial say? what market are you?
as far as I am concerned we fall for their framing when we submit to the term “activist judges”
as everyone knows, the republican nominated and most concervative judges on the bench overturn local law far more then the liberal judges
in addition, when a liberal judge overturns local law there is direct foundation in the constitution or case law
when a concervative judge overturns local law as a split decision it almost never shows constitutional or case foundation, of if presented they are stretched beyond recognition
My morning stay here at the lake is shortened for the next few months. Summer hours have kicked in at work, start a 1/2 hour earlier.
I’m personally more curious about her history when it’s Big Business vs. We the People.
I’m pro-choice, but in the overall scheme of things I think saving our representative democracy is the top priority at this point. And we need to reverse course on the past 30 years of kleptocracy.
I’m in CNY. The ad was a corporate list of desires to deny good pay while the corps earn millions with a graphic of greed superimposed. It quoted corps as wanting to “deny workes the ability to advance while the top score big salaries”, “keep them where they are” etc. And one clip showed what looked like a Walmart worker.
decent article about that over at Kos yesterday.
http://www.dailykos.com/storyo…..l-Activism
I have to question the percentages listed in it however. Clarence Thomas is shown as being more “activist” than Scalia, for example.
And that is simply not possible, because Justice Thomas has never had a thought which differed from Scalia’s. Justice Thomas has never had a thought that wasn’t provided to him by Scalia.
I hate typing “Justice Thomas”.
George Bush picked Miers to be on the SCOTUS, not because of the color of her skin (which helped tremendously in making his decision!), but because she was his personal attorney and would be the undue influence Bush felt the Court needed.
Sotomayor will be great on the stand when her nomination hearings roll around. I can’t wait. This proud Hispanic woman will “clean the floors” with the republicans! She’ll prove who the real racists are in two seconds flat. I can’t wait.
She’ll prove who the real racists are in two seconds flat.
It would be nice if she’d throw a little Beauregard-bait out there.
And I’d love to hear Hatch explain one more time that he only voted for her confirmation to the Appellate bench because he was swapping votes with Moynihan.
I still think that Hatch’s admission was a jaw-dropper, and should get him tossed from the SJC.
Former W lawyer on cspan saying empathy isn’t appropriate for judges.
Sucks.
Leaving here early sucks, but getting out of work at 4 is great.
Now, I’m gone, see all later.
Is it just me or are you also considering the Sotomayor hearings the same as the Jon & Kate Plus 8 season opener this past Monday? Oh, I am! LOL
I hope the right wingers keep saying, “Empathy smempathy! We love torture! We love murdering innocent people in war! And no way in hell do we adhere to the idea of empathy! Empathy is for losers!”.
Bah hahahahahahaha!
Flipped off. Sent ‘em an email: W admin lawyer to evaluate Sotomayor? Nope. No antipathy or bias there. Your guest is quite young, so I wonder how far down the rolodex your booker had to go to find someone of that ilk. CSPAN rapidly descending to Fox depths.
I hope she is feisty and personal enough to overcome roberts storied persuasive ability
Bah hahahahaha! Great email, eCAHN. ;-)
