It’s time to play "Which Judge Said This?", the new board game from Firedoglake Productions. Simply guess which judge uttered the words and win fabulous prizes! And remember: if you want to play, you can’t watch the video first. AND NO GOOGLING!
1. "[W]hen a case comes before me involving, let’s say, someone who is an immigrant — and we get an awful lot of immigration cases and naturalization cases — I can’t help but think of my own ancestors, because it wasn’t that long ago when they were in that position. "
__ Sonia Sotomayor or __ Samuel Alito
2. "Whether born from experience or inherent physiological or cultural differences our gender and national origins may and will make a difference in our judging."
__ Sonia Sotomayor or __ Samuel Alito

__ Sonia Sotomayor or __ Samuel Alito
4. "[W]hen I get a case about discrimination, I have to think about people in my own family who suffered discrimination because of their ethnic background or because of religion or because of gender. And I do take that into account."
__ Sonia Sotomayor or __ Samuel Alito
5. "Yes, I will bring the understanding of a woman to the Court, but I doubt that alone will affect my decisions. I think the important thing about my appointment is not that I will decide cases as a woman, but that I am a woman who will get to decide cases."
__ Sonia Sotomayor or __ Sandra Day O’Connor
6. "Each of us brings to our job, whatever it is, our lifetime of experience and our values."

__ Sonia Sotomayor or __ Antonin Scalia
9. "We are nation that takes pride in our ethnic diversity, recognizing its importance in shaping our society and in adding richness to its existence. Yet, we simultaneously insist that we can and must function and live in a race and color-blind way that ignore these very differences that in other contexts we laud."

Judge-y-wood Squares!
here’s an excersize I would love to see;
hannity had the nerve to negative peer opinions of Sotomayor without posting the positive opinions from the same publication on that very same volume
he then went on to post the positive opinions posted about alito without posting the critisizm
I would love to see the critisism of alito on that day to go along with the positive that hannity broadcast
I’m glad that the nominee is a woman, but enough with the Catholics on the Supreme Court!
Will she be the fifth or sixth one?
I think it’s relevant since the Catholic church has been known to excommunicate those Catholics who would dare to support a woman’s right to abortion. A justice should not have to bow to their teachings.
Brilliant!
O/T: What happened with the Dawn Johnsen OLC confirmation? Sotomayor certainly has distracted us this week.
Good luck getting an atheist…
Clarence Thomas actually spoke about something other than his RV or his wife’s wingnut welfare job at, I think the Heritage Foundation? The mind boggles.
Google “Clarence Thomas quotes”. His stupidity is clearly on display.
A board game? Wait a minute — do we get little doohickeys like in Monopoly (you know, the shoe, the wheelbarrow, etc.?). Is there stuff on the board like “Hired immigrant nanny to care for your kids but did NOT pay FICA – go to jail” or “Have massive seizure at your summer house – nothing happens to you” or “Sit on the bench and have nothing to say for yourself”?
Don’t forget: Hire a reupholsterer for your wife so she can attend your confirmation hearings.
Well he is after all from someplace like Pinhead, Georgia. Clarence Thomas, hardly a replacement for Thurgood Marshall on the court, eh?
I don’t think he’d even be allowed in the building if it wasn’t for GHWBush and Co buffalo-ing the senate into confirming his sorry ass. I wonder how many more years we have to keep paying him to sit up there and do the Scholastic magazine crossword puzzle during oral arguments.
HAHAHA!
“Hey, Tony, this Junior Jumble’s harder than I thought!”
Did he really say … “I’m a Honkytonk Man !”
Jo Fish !
Hey Petro, how’s life in the civilized part of North America? Still trying to work out a Toronto trip… :)
Rainy and cool since Toosday … and our spineless Libruls don’t think it’s politically expedient to take down the last NeoCon Gov’t in power …
Waiting for you to come up, Bro !
Good news: I got 10 out of 10
Bad news: I guessed on 4 of them
Seriously if this went virol it could make a pretty important statement
send it around, amigo!
Agreed ! Watertiger, can you put this on DKos and other sites ?
This is a great post to show the cretins for what they truly are.
i’m not a kossack…but i know people. ;-)
Egg-cellent ! *g*
Clarence Thomas actually spoke about something other than his RV or his wife’s wingnut welfare job…(?)
well – yeah.
But he was lying.
‘Sup, Petro?
Jayt ! How’s it goin’, eh ?
I still expect wimp Obama to withdraw her, but I’m hoping he doesn’t. How’s that for an incoherent position?
What happened in court? (You can ignore this query if you wish.)
I think Whitehouse and the Senate Dems have told BO that they’re going to beat up on the Repugs until they give in and confirm Dawn Johnsen. Adding Sotomayor to the fray just ratchets the pressure up on the Repugs, IMO.
From your lips …
I remain doubtful.
and as I’ve said sooo many times, on many different issues, *Make. Them. Filibuster.*
the objection is supposedly over her irrelevant (to her position) views on abortion.
Let ‘em filibuster, and see how long they can sustain it on an issue that makes no sense whatsoever.
Go, GOP, go!
P.S. (please)
P.P.S. (works on more than one level)
Should Dawn Johnsen be withdrawn, I promise to call every Senate Dem and chastise them roundly … will you
join me ?
What happened in court?
Continued.
I’ve got the case, but it’s a dirty court.
So I’ll go back another day to be informed that I’ve lost.
You betcha.
Great !
… off to Dinner and a nice Barolo … Cheers !
Crap! I just assumed Sotomayorrrr said all that horrible stuff; who knew there were already a bunch of unintelligent racists on the Supreme Court?
Crossing my fingers for you.
I had a minor court appearance a week ago for burning without a permit. Being a dumpy old lady, I got dimissed for stupidity (when asked why, I said: I guess I didn’t know the procedure, though I’ve been burning on the property for almost 30 years). Being positively profiled does increase my sensitivity for those who experience the opposite. As if I needed more evidence to put myself into the shoes of those who are not as lucky as me.
Only pissed at white gay males. They can pass (one of my best friends does). I’m jealous that I can’t. Spit.
(pointedly ignoring Watertiger)
